Speed is relative to one's reaction speed, I don't care if drivers get startled because they didn't check their mirrors and blindspots. Besides if you're slow, you're LS hogging.

The speed at which you lanesplit is generally your own personal responsibility, it's extremely unlikely you will hurt someone other than yourself by lanesplitting too fast. I don't like lanesplitting too fast but I always keep an eye on my mirrors and make way for other bikers who are faster.

Sometimes I think they are the ones who give motorcyclists a bad name?

I LS in traffic jams but i go slow but i go slow so wont startle the drivers. i wont force if there isnt space to LS in jams.

If you go too slow, you end up as a nuisance to the riders behind you who get trapped.

Personally I hate those bikes who LS between lanes 1 and 2 at 70kph on a 90 kph expressway in smooth traffic.

i would like to call that lane 1.5.

to me any vehicle, bike, car, taxi etc. should not be at lane 1 unless overtaking. if you are at lane 1 and you realise some vehicle is close behind you, then give way. i dot that. bikes should not be at 1.5 if the traffic is smooth. even worse if a car or taxi is at lane 1.5.

Rat bike - A motorcycle not necessarily kept in pristine condition, often painted matt black. Minimal maintenance and mismatched parts often used.

they travel all the way here from JB, jam are pretty common to them. they really have their way get around the jam confidently, it really boil down to individual and take responsibility for your actions.

bike is a machine without soul, rider would inject new life and character to this machine

Why need to LS when the traffic is smooth?

IMHO Its all about comfort level.. the Malaysians are used to riding at high speeds and lane splitting at will. Riding any slower makes them fall asleep I guess.

Its the same as riding on the track... when I first started... I used to think that some people were crazy going into corners at such speeds... now people say I am crazy but I say I am comfortable with the speed.

As one gains more experience on a bike... one's perceptions and views on how a bike should be ridden will change over time.. just live and let live for now.

It's the same question as why you need ride a bike when there are public transport available

That's quite a fallacy. A better analogy would be to stand in the mrt when there are seats available. I guess it all boils down to preference.
