advantages:

lower insurance/road tax

nice design with underseat exhaust & digital metre

aluminium die cast frame for lighter weight

disadvantages:

low end poor power

front fork not adjustable

rear suspension only preload, no compression/rebound damping

brake caliper dual piston, poor grip

stock tyres BT020, damm slippery

headlight not wide or shine far enough, esp in msia road w/o lights

TPS problem.....

not DIY-friendly (eg. to access battery, have to open side fairings, open fuel tank, tank no support, etc....)

very very pathetic underseat storage space

no helmet lock

tailboard with pillion grabrail is single piece, if break have to change WHOLE tailboard

pillion seat hot despite having heat wrap

the list goes on and on

:giddy:

I only rode my FZ6 total of 3 hrs this morning. IMHO, my early feelings are:

Agree on the lack of low-end and weakish mid-range.

Throttle response less direct than even my specII, is it because of EFI?

Suspension a bit harsh, including forks.

What's with the one-eyed headlight, or is it only my bike?

Light doesn't seem strong. Even high-beaming also not so powderful.

Something smells like it's burning after a long ride - is it the underseat exhausts?

Feels a little big and bulky, but maybe I'm comparing with my old 400cc.

Mirrors can be better, but generally ok.

A lot of wires up front, makes the dash somewhat untidy looking.

Gear changes not so hot, or maybe I not used to it. Changing down at lights from 6th or 5th sometimes no more response after reaching 3rd. So got to (i) change down earlier, or (ii) change some more from 3rd after coming to a stop. My specII much better in this area.

Seat hard, bum hurts after 2 hrs.

But...

On the highway, smooth and easy cruising.

Stable when taking corners, good turning radius.

Brakes quite good, can stop on a dime, altho i not going that fast lah.

Windscreen a bit low, but up to 110kmh can still take most of windblast off.

Well-balanced.

Wide bars make steering very easy, even when splitting lanes at junctions.

Height of bike gives good view over cars.

Feel that it has presence on the road, can feel some cars 'siam' me a bit... unlike the days of my Phantom. This bike quite big mah.

Overall finish is better than I expected.

Most of all, just love the looks man.

I think if all goes well, can keep this bike for a year before looking elsewhere.

earlier on, the carb models failed the EU emmission standards, hence the 04 fz6 is rushed to get on the road by late 2003. many parts are used on the bike are from other yamaha bikes, etc signal light from TDM9, brake calipers from XJR4, etc.

the EFI is introduced, with whole new look, thus this is like a gunea pig bike.... everything seemed like on experiment. throttle response poor, pick up poor, DIY-unfriendly, etc.

from wat i know, all Fz6 (new and old model) are all one eye-ed jack. the other side of the high beam only light up when u on the high beam.

if i not wrong, the bike u r riding has been 'heat-wrap' for better hp and heat control, so as to minimised heat distribution on the pillion seat and the understorage things.

bike mirrors are a bit wide, could have a little problem at times when squeezing traffic, have to get use to it lah.

turning radius not as good, due to its longer wheelbase with a longer swingarm compared to the 03 model. stability wise is ok with the 180/60 tyres compared to the 03 model with 160/60 tyres.

overall bike is ridable if ur expectations are not high. :cheer:

I also no skill. I riding the 04 model, and 1.65 m only. No need to tiptoe but just can reach balls of my feet. Don't feel very secure, but height of the bike gives good view over cars. :cheer:

There's a delay between twisting the throttle and feeling the power come on. My specII much more responsive, twist and it will GO.

Over bumps and uneven road surfaces, can really feel the jolts. Half-fairing also rattled - seems forks not absorbing the shocks that well.

Looks like got to be one-eyed jack liao...

Mine 2nd hand bike lah.

I like to try different bikes... so far only had baby cruiser (Phantom), standard road bike (specII), now mid-sized road/sports tourer(?) (FZ6 Fazer)... next one must be sportsbike liao... :cheer: :cheer:

Sell sure to lose some money after a year, that's the price for tasting different dishes lor. :cheeky:

Is it a good bike? For me, need more time to tell, but I miss my specII...

I didn't pillion, but I touched the seat after my long ride, can't feel that it's hot. I think the heat proofing quite up to standard. Although I did feel my bottom a bit warm during the ride.

What was hot was the engine. The heat meter went up to 3/4 of max... is that normal? Manual says if reach last bar must stop the bike and 'do not operate'.
