i duno anything abt oil tankers but all i knw is e price hike is to match e regional standard n reduce their cost of fuel subsidies.

Frm ChannelNewsAsia on 28 Feb 2006 1127 hrs

KUALA LUMPUR : Malaysians on Tuesday woke up to the country's biggest ever fuel price hike, the latest in a series of increases aimed at curbing the cost of subsidies as world oil prices rise.

The price of petrol and diesel was raised by 30 sen per litre to about 1.90 ringgit (51 US cents) and 1.58 ringgit (43 US cents) respectively -- still cheap by regional standards.

The prime minister's office said in a statement overnight that the increase was designed to tackle the impact of rising crude oil prices and to curb the subsidies borne by the government.

"The retail price for petroleum products is being raised because in 2005 the amount of subsidy borne by the government was 7.41 billion ringgit," it said.

However, it promised that there would be no more hikes this year after the latest increase, which was the fifth since May 2004. Fuel prices were last raised in July last year.

The government has said that fuel subsidies will eventually be scrapped to ensure that they did not take away much needed funds for the development of schools and rural infrastructure.

However, increases are extremely unpopular with Malaysians and have raised fears that they will create inflationary pressure which will force the government to increase interest rates.

Only the oil-rich kingdom of Brunei retains its fuel at prices lower than Malaysia, which is also an energy exporter.

Guess which word had this meaning.

2. A set of principles permitting greater opportunity or liberty to one than to another, especially the granting of greater sexual freedom to men than to women.

3. A set of principles establishing different provisions for one group than another; also, specifically, allowing men more sexual freedom than women.
