Hi Guys! I've got my xl 1200s sportster finally!

Anyway I repositioned the IU unit and changed both metzeler tyres to new metzeler ones at Custom. what I don't understand is how one motorcycle tyre (the rear one - $220) can cost more than a 215/45/17 falken 452 car tyre (ok la the car tyres were from Poh Heng so quite cheap but still !!)

I asked Tony about exhaust options and he advised me against it because right now the TPs are coming down quite strongly on such mods. My exhaust is currently black ceramic with baffle removed. I'm thinking of changing to chrome exhaust as it would give the bike a good balance of chrome and powder coated and black parts like the engine. Anyway I will take this part slow as i want to try out the current exhaust more. Any sportster owners here care to recommend an exhaust that is not too loud with gd performance?

I'm also thinking of lowering the bike. My current solo seat is quite thick and i feel very high seating on the bike. Do you guys think that lowering the bike would affect the handling since it's geometry is changed? I understand that there are 2 ways to lower the bike. One is where the suspension must be changed while the other is just by adding a bracket. whats the difference between the two and how would the two affect the bike's handling?

Cheers!

simply base on size of tyre is not right.

Bikes tyres cost more becos they are mostly higher speed rating and radial.

they require more processes and technology to manufacture.

my car tyre (255/40/19) cost $400 each and yet there are bike tyres that can still cost just as much or more.

for exhaust, screaming eagles are not too loud.

the ones i used were crazy loud. i'm using originals now as i live in a private estate and i do not want to be spit at. hahah

regarding the seat

go for the reach seat, see my 1st pic.

it makes it lower.

lowering it by adjusting the fork / suspension will affect the handling for sure.

too low not nice feeling for sporty

i'm 170cm by the way for your reference.

enjoy

That's the symptom of using low wattage signal LED (or bulbs) on HD. They don't blink instead of blinking fast (as in sportsbikes). Just get a proper load equalizer or flasher to correct it. Don't get the cheap resistor type load equalizer as those tend to get hot, and burn something if you're unlucky.

Hi Doc,

Thanks for the advise. Do you know where the flasher relay is located? Is it inside the signal module itself? I tried to find it and the wires all lead to the signal module.

Alternatively, i can just install a proper load equalizers to the signal lights. Do you know where i can find these?

Hey guys,

Anyone here use those throw-over saddlebags for your bike? Is it better to fix up the saddlebags support bracket? Thanx in advance :)

i got my saddlemen up just last week, with the option of throwing the bags over but i got easy brackets for fast removal.

Think you still need a bracket even if you throw over so that the bags dun swing while you move (or tie the bottom of the bags to some part safe.) It maybe ok if you throw them over your shocks and remove the bags everytime after riding, but i wont feel safe.

And very soon if the bags are not secured wear and tear on both the bags and the bike parts (bag faster) will show quickly.

Thanks Throtttle, ah i see the reason for the high cost of bike tyres now. Let me let u in on an 'open secret', get your tyres from Poh Heng in AMK, very cheap. :thumb:

Good, that's wat i thot about lowering the bike too. I'm trying to keep the bike as stock as possible with every modification having the option to revert back to stock. Gez will just have to resort to my sleek 2-up seats then. Am also looking to the SEII in the near future.

Cheers and hope u get a nice price for your nice sportster dude! :thumb:

sorry, not selling becos I want the option of 2 up just in case.

In my opinion the R seat is the nicest 2 up seat for sportsters.

got a cool retro look...

Talking about locks, today I bought a 1.2m bicycle chain lock to secure helmets and stuff. Got it and gez wat, the knob at the end of the chain can't fit into my helmet d-ring :slapforehead: Now must go to workshop and file the knob down to size. Hahaha!

Wah tell me about it man! I can't wait also! I'm more anxious than you! OK I'll come clean first. I'm riding a Triumph Street Triple 675 at the moment. Many pple mistaken it for the Speed Triple 1050. Below is one picture of it. More pictures are at http://picasaweb.google.com/simck79/Motorcycling#.

Hey you got your bike already right! Pictures leh????

Haha! You're not wearing full face helmet? If full face then no problem. How much is the lock?

I'm thinking of getting the MasterLock Python. It's length is adjustable. It's called Python because of the why it looks. But don't know where to buy in Singapore. A review by WebBikeWorld: http://www.webbikeworld.com/r2/motorcycle-lock/master-lock-python/python.htm

i got this kryptonite cable lock when i was visiting a harley dealership in the US. yes, it is a thin steel cable, so it is just a minor deterrent. i lock an under $500 dainese half helmet with it. it will be easier to cut the chin strap if someone wanted to steal it. i park at my office building so hopefully no one will bother to bring a cutting tool to cut the cable. i got this cos it offers a little deterrence, cable slips through the D ring, i did not need to bring any key and no messy cables to coil up and stores easily on my bike's mini bag.
