Hello blackreplica,

I have read that you actually installed the Ducati Racing Baffles.

After looking at the pictures, am I correct to say that basically,

 

1) the internals of the stock exhausts are removed and discarded?

2) the internals are topped up with a direct tube wrapped with fiber glass cloth?

3) the rivets are used because it is simpler compared to welding?

 

4) there is no significant improvement to bike except than it sounds a bit nicer?

5) any idea if there are impacts to other settings to the bike due to the change? (I read elsewhere that after changing to after market pipes, may have to change some chips also...) o_O

 

I am so glad to read about all this in the Monster forum.. wonder if the above applies to the 748... cos i have extra set of stock exhausts.. might as well do something to it......

 

I am very interested to meet up if you dont mind for a closer look...

Hello all,

Don't mean to scare you or put you off, but if you do want to change pipes, please walk down the legal path. If you need advice on illegal parts, please consider legal paths at least 3 times before you walk down the dark side.

My 2 cents lah.......It's not worth it to contribute to LTA's already very big piggy bank.

I'm not trying to be Mr Nasty, but TeePee have been known to browse this public based forums too you know!!!

I also been thinking very long about changing. This is what i am most afraid of...ha..ha... legal pipes. Any options. GPR pipes i had them before on my 2B bike, IMO not that good. 400cc pipes are limited (legal) i think. I not sure. Anyone care to advice.

 

Is the original ducati performance pipes legal? Since we are talking about ducati performance parts, how's their air filter compare to K&N air filter?

 

Have not been riding my monster for 2 weeks already. Hope it will not spoil..ha..ha..

Of the top of my head, the following are your options....

Legal Termis = 2.8K ish

GPR = I think about 1K ish.....best person to ask is Randy

Arrows = As updated in the last meetup, I can get from Italy the Titanium, Carbon Fibre for about 1.3K and the Aluminium for 1K (estimated price depends on current exchange rate. Still waiting for people to respond on the Mass Order. This comes with the paper, and it's a full system, not just the cans.

Heard that Ah-Boy will be importing Legal Termis. Not sure how true, but best to find out anyway.......

IMHO....Full System Termis is the way to go. Especially if yours is Fuel Injection (don't forget to re-tune!!!) However, the cost is VERY VERY VERY high. Sil Motors was highly recommended, but I never got to hear one live, and I'm not sure if it is legal. Found a distributor in KL, but b@st@rd never replied to me. Arrows, is the only option left, from my view, which is legal, and recommended by our fren Jimmy, which isn't as ex as the rest. F Y I GPR is cans' only.

Bro....Ducati Performance is too vague a term....What do you mean by that?

 

As expected the K&N Air Filter is better than stock, and the performance version of the K&N Air Filter is even better, but also louder. Nice, but it's attention seeking.

Best to just start it up. Light up a cigarette. Finish Cigarette. Switch off, and continue with whatever it is you were doing previously. I do that on days when I don't ride. Last time lah....now, she is in pieces....hahahaha

Hi there,

 

1) and 2) are basically correct. You open up the pipes, chop off the silencer inside it and replace it with the new one.

 

For 3), I don't think welding is a good idea. It will look ugly and you can never remove the cannister ever again! Rivets are a far better solution. Even the stock pipe uses those rivets. You just add another 2 at the base of the cannister to keep the header in place.

 

4) Performance-wise, the difference is either minimal or hardly noticable. Not worth mentioning. I have to qualify my statement though: I did not rejet my carbs or do any sort of tuning! After thinking about it for a while, i've decided to go with Keihin FCRs in a few months-to-a-year when i have the money, so i've decided to stop spending money on carbs from now on. I'll just tough out the stock mikunis for now. If you run a fuel injected bike I strongly recommend tuning it once the pipes are in (as with any exhaust pipe change) to maximise benefits. Sound wise much louder but not yet at the level of being vulgar. Quite a nice balance IMO
