I've been hearing a lot about tube tires and tubeless tires. Heard that tubeless tires are better. If say for example, I have a CG125 or a XR125L. Can I change it to tubeless tires?

To put it simply, is it possible to change any bikes to tubeless tires? Or... it can only be done to certain bikes?

Biking is something that everyone can learn and enjoy! :goodluck:

I'm currently learning at BBDC... I heard that the tires that are fixed on the bikes are tube tires...

I don't know very much... that's why i'm very interested to know whether it is possible to change the tires from tube to tubeless tires for ANY bikes. Or, there must be something before i can change the tires from tube to tubeless?

Most spoke wheels use tube tires. Try using tubless tires and air will simply escape from the spoke nipples. The only production motorcycle that uses tubeless tires on spoke wheels are the BMW GS series. These are special spoke wheels where the nipples are round the edges of the rim.

Cast wheels usually use tubeless tires.

You can also run tubeless tires on spoke wheels, provided you use a tube... duh... :giddy: my motard runs Michelin Pilot Power with inner tube.

Advantage of tubeless tires is that in the event of pucture, the leak is usually slow. A tube tire will deflat almost immediately if pierced by a sharp object.

Past: KDX200, LC4 400, LC4 620, GSXR750WR

Present: CBR900RRY, Gas Gas EC250, XR250L, XR250RV, XR400 (motard-ed), NX650 Dominator

Ah... so it's possible to use tubeless tires! Thanks for the info, bro! Really appreciate! :lovestruck:

Err... if you use tubeless tire with inner tube on a spoke wheel, the tire will still deflate immediately if pierced with a sharp object (i.e. nail).

tubeless tyres gives better mileage compared to tube tyres...

being radial & the way the radial wires are constructed...tubeless tyres has lesser roll resistance, hence have better fuel consumption...

however, tube tyres have better comfort at lower speeds...compared to tubeless tyres...

how i know? im in the tyre line...

these applies to bigger tyres...but i guess the concept should be the same...

Honda XL600 are also using tubeless tyres on spoke rims

There are pros and cons going tube or tubeless. Putting rims aside, on road, or track it would be better to run tubeless because tube basically increases the rotation mass and built up heat due to friction However tubes are preferred for off-road because lower tyre pressures are used as it would be very easy for a tubeless tire to pop it's bead off the rim.

There are kits in the market that modify spoke rims to run tubeless tyres but they don't come cheap. Some of the local super-motard riders have done these modifications using industrial silicons to air-sealed the spoke nipples and duct tape over. However the success is varied, since it was not widely adopted, it may give the impression that it was an effective solution.
