Pilot jet

- is what the mechanics normally adjust to tune your super 4.

- They control a fixed amount of fuel (not air) going into your engine which keeps ur engine idiling.

- Open it up, and you will get a richer mix throughout your throttle range.

Main jet

- Where your needle jet slides into.

- Fix. Only adjustment to it is to change it (i.e. Dynoyets)

- However, you can change how fast u want more fuel to enter your engine by putting washers into the needle jet (raise it a little so more fuel at the lower throttle range)

Above information are based on own personal knowledge while playing with my CB750 carbs.

Try at your own risk.

hmm that means i am "learning" the wrong thing???

how can the mechanic tune the "pilot" jet when he screw it from the inner...

pilot jet look like this...

http://www.motorcyclecarbs.com/KEIHIN_PILO...35_P4725C81.cfm

btw below is pic of a idle screw u mean which the mechanic use to tune the bike... and this is the ONLY screw accessible outside the carb... the pilot jet is something inside the carb... and u can't adjust it.. u only can change the size to the bigger one for MORE air intake and screw it in, u can't adjust...

the dyno jet look like this, the one on the right... golden colour..

b4 install dynojet i hit 180 throttle till end, now at 6th gear can open til 190km/hr, but don know how accurate is our speedo. i only know the meter climbs faster than b4. now can still hit 320 at blinker. last time only 250-280.

haha.. you caught me there quize..

Yes, the adjustment thing is the only thing that can be adjusted.

But would it be right for me to say, that it works in-conjunction with the 'pilot jet' to precisely supply the correct air/fuel mixture to the engine during idle? Cos i'm wondering, if the 'pilot jet' controls the amount of air, then wats the adjustment 'jet' for...

edit: found some interesting read for all...

How to jet

na, nt caught u but just giving my 2c.

the adjustment is not jet but control the amt of air going into the carb. the idling is the one that set the idling for CB 400 n CB750 shld be both at the centre of the 4 carb (usually black or grey knob) the adjustment screw is for mechanic to tune our bike. via control/varies the air fuel mixture 14:1. the fuel intake is already control via the main jet and the needle (for stock, u can't do any adjustment. for dyno, u can varies the main jet size (for cb400, the jet size is from 100, 102, 104 and 106, dyno recommend 104) and the height of the needle (dyno recommend groove 2)). so now only left with the adjustment screw common known as A/F mixture screw the 1st pic i show.

hope it clear any doubt, not only from u.
