cos this issue has been brought up many times before

many neutrals feel xjr looks better, bigger, though s4 owners may beg to differ

resale value s4 much better for sure, xjr can fly kite in this aspect

reliability? yet to hear xjr owners complaining abt their bikes failing in any way out of no reason. s4 wise no need to say, can try go s4 section and shout " s4 not reliable!" and see what u receive

handling depends on diff views from diff individuals, personally i feel s4 has a more compact feel with better manouvrebility, while xjr has a more upright posture and feels like having a longer wheelbase.

Well guys I've rode the early version of XJR400 in 96...the best part of the bike is that at 4000 rpm the engine is very smooth. There was no cut-off,oil cool no worries of over heating, full tank at 370km.it was avery interesting bike to ride.Once I rode up to KL and came back and I just had to top-up at Machap on the way back.Travelling speed at 110km/h .I miss that bike coz bigger bikes are always playing in your mind.If I had that extra $$$$$....I'll buy that XJR1300.This naked bike was so hot in Japan that Honda had to came out with their model of CB1300 using X13 power plant just to compete of the big bore machine. All was writen in Big Machine mag in mid 90s.For those who want a compare in saving $$$...you can consider the XJR 400.As mention it uses 150/60 at rear whereas s4 uses 160/60.Air/oil cool,s4 liquid cool .As for the chain drive it save you from changing too soon as s4 has heavier wheel.XJR has not much electronic compare to s4...correct me if I'm wrong.....:thumb:

So once again, another bike comparison...both bikes have their good and the bad side or another words pros and cons.

First with S4- pick up is better then Xjr4, power wise it is the other way round S4 is lacking off..Xjr4 pick up still the same from the earlier batches-slower, power wise it is better and improve on the latest batch. both top speed are the same.

Riding wise all S4 feels the same slightly towards the sports side, whereas Xjr4 is more on the upright position..

Thinking of top box- earlier S4's still look great with top panniers but for the new version it kills the rear beauty at the tail section.! On the Xjr4 there's no different still look great.

Seat on both bikes feel the same after 30 to 45minutes riding your bum's chicks goes numb...pillions' on both bikes have no complain..

Both bike brakes are good.. Xjr4 stopping power slightly better ..Suspension on both bikes are the same whether oliins or not..

Engine -most of you guys know that Xjr4 is air cooled and S4 is water cooled...

Both new bikes I have riden latest S4 and Xjr4 both friends bike, and ever owned S4 S version... some years back.. o_O

S4 was on the market much, much earlier then Xjr4. Whereas Xjr4 came later, so market sales wise it is lesser on the road then S4.

He is talking about the 02 onward models, you are talking about the 96-98 models.

XJR400R is a heavy bike, so if you are not tall enough, you will have trouble everytime when you want to move your bike backwards (eg. moving out from a carpark). My leg hit the leg peg a few times when moving backward, pain xia... not the bike problem actually, it's my sole slippery liao :cheeky:, plus I not tall enough:sian:

Never rode S4, so not sure if S4 riders experienced this before.

weight wise xjr is a tinge heavier than s4, ard 176kg to 166kg on paper specs. xjr has a slightly higher seatheight and therefore it does feel a little bulkier, be it psychologically or factually.

reversing on legs part :D most pple haf probs on a little upslope i think, so lets get off the bike and start pushing :cheeky:

XJR air cooled and has less electrical/electronics to worry about. S4 do have some electrical/electronic and HONDA bikes known for their electrical problem. Maintenance wise XJR I think should be easier as it air/oil cooled. But pray that you don't get stuck in a traffic jam as air/oil cooled bik have tendency to overheat very quick in a jam.

On the papers, it may looks that way. But when you need to do some replacements you will see the diff.

About air-cooled, someone once told me liquid-cooled is better. Air-cooled is done by mainly using ram air, so if you park your bike aside, there is no ram air. Long term usage doesn't sounds nice. For liquid-cooled, at least there is still coolant aiding in cooling the engine.

I got a feeling that XJR carburator seems to have a problem. Btw, how long does a XJR owner need to do carb. wash and tuning?

If you prefer XJR, just get it. Like I always said - people get XJR only because they likes XJR - this is the only reason.

personally never rode either bike but i rather have the xjr than the s4 as the population of xjr is lesser.....

between xjr and s4 which one got cheaper insurance?

i think e s4 is more popular bike and a pretty hardy bike. not much problems. weight wise am not sure how much heavier e yammy is. factory claim weight - am not sure how reliable it is though.
