Today I went over to Hong Leong to get the mechanic to check on my bike due to rattling/ticking noise again.

Found that it is a recurring problem of the chain cam tensioner.

Was told that I might have done some sudden revving of the engine that cause it to give way. This tensioner is very delicate and any sudden revving can damaged it.

So a friendly reminder to fellow FJR riders, go gradual on the throttle when overtaking on the road, try not to rev it too suddently or else $$$ will fly away  :faint:

myself and a few other FJR riders always rev our bike. nothing like this is happening leh..... that mech trying to snook u? benifit of doubt, i might be wrong too.

What the mechanic mean is sudden "Blowing" or "Twisting" of the throttle is bad for the chain cam tensioner.

Gradual throttling should be the way.

I also don't quite understand why is this tensioner so easily damaged.

The tensioner is just a device with a torsion spring to maintain the tension of the cam chain, how can it be so easily damaged. :sian:

Or maybe the chain cannot withstand the massive torque of this engine and easily lengthen, thus the rattling noise.

It doesn't make any difference whether a motorcyclist has the right-of-way or not, the rider is the one most likely to get hurt.

i think he's smoking you, there are lots of articles on the net about cause of the ticking sound. Go google it. you can find some info at fjrforum.com too

The chances are that even when you change the tensioner, the sound will still be there.

Did he mention timing chain loose (can just tighten the timing chain) or timing chain "going" soon???

I used to have such rattling and ticking sound which can be quite irritating.

But after I change my timing chain and tensioner at the same time, the sound is gone...

Perhaps you may want to seek a second opinion.

But maybe HL just want to "cut" you???

I know all about this ticking sound problem and the cause of it first hand at a workshop.

I even pick up the worn valve and inspected the valve guide at the workshop and seen the problem with me own eyes on a late FJR owner's bike.

It doesn't make any difference whether a motorcyclist has the right-of-way or not, the rider is the one most likely to get hurt.

It is the tensioner that is not doing it's job causing the timing chain to run loose to produce this irritating rattling noise.

The last time it solve the problem after replacing both timing chain and tensioner.

I chose to go back to HL because they are the agent and use all original parts for repair. Not that I like HL so much but I am quite reluctant to put my bike into "outside" workshop to be "experiment" with.

140 is comfort riding. U can go higher esp on NSH, riding at 160-180km/h is cruising speed.

Enjoys the beast dude.

Damn i missed my FJR!

..

Yes, I also no balls. I left my balls on NSH when my right side panniers brushed against the NSH central divider at close to 240km/h (I closed throttle immediately) and my whole wobbled like hell, almost skidded after my right side pannier hit the NSH central divider. That's why I reached max close to 240km/h only too.

bro sorry to say but think the rider... done that..

Hi, deanz4, no problem. I am okay with it. It is the fact that it is the rider, not the ride.

Enjoy your ride and ride safe. :thumb:

Cheers. :)
