Hey FJRians,

 

My bike just crossed the 40K km mark and according to the manual it's time to get the valve clearance checked and adjusted (among other things). For a procedure like this, would I need to go to Yamaha directly (so HL Corp)? Are there tools they use for this that only they have? Or will another shop be able to take care of this?

 

What about cost, how much can I expect to pay for this? A friend suggested I go to HKL. Any thoughts or other recommendations?

 

Interested to hear your experiences. Thanks!

Then after that, I didn't feel too good, So I went to HLC to have the valve clearance confirmed. When I went to book appointment, they showed me their arsenal of spacers and how they would pretty much do the same recordings of the positions and gaps.

 

The confirmation showed that HKL did a good job on the clearances and no further adjustments were needed. I guess this goes to show that HKL is capable of doing a good job on the clearance. (Anybody wish to second that ?)

 

However, nowadays, I only send my baby to HLC. Although it's a hassle having to book and wait for your appointment and parts, I feel more at ease having the bike go back to HLC for servicing; even though they might be a little more expensive. I feel that it's a small premium to pay for a long peace of mind.

Thanks for the feedback I called HLC, they suggested I drop by so they can listen to the engine to see whether valves need adjusting in the first place. In the end turns out it's time to change the tensioner.

 

I also agree about the peace of mind bit. Makes sense when it's a machine you depend on for getting around and also your own safety.

I asked about the auto model at HKL (or a shop next door, I can't remember), about 2 months ago. They told me they're not really available for sale in Singapore. There's a problem with that system and heat (overheating?), and we have plenty of heat here in SG.

You should try asking HLC instead of HKL. the auto model has been sitting in showroom for a long while. From what i know, right now only got auto ones in stock at HLC

according to my understanding, PC 5 is required ONLY if u changed to a FULL system (endcan+header)..

If only endcan there's only a slight drop in FC e.g mine is barely noticeable. But of course if u can afford it, its good to have.

 

Envie: i ask early2 already.. PC 5 unit is $500+.. Dyno is ard $180.

To dyno with ur PC need to book appointment.
