seems like they don't wanna give me much info, all they said is that the shop just ordered and the stock just arrived.

btw, any recommendations for workshops on the eastern side of SG?

I know ben tong is at Autobay@kaki bukit, that one gotta make booking.

but i read in the forum that there is a shop where the service is not bad and they wash your bikes too.

Ok, I bought mine from the shop I knew since yr 1994...One owner with 3 mechanics..of coz..owner is the one with vast experience, he will instruct mechanic what to do and inspect as well. His shop is few shops further down HL Cycle towards the T junction right at the corner.

Good service with reasonable price...or I would not have bought my bike from him afterall..

Btw...congrats ya...getting your new baby soon...have lots of fun with it...maybe you're still in time for Phuket Bike Week? Interested?

Hi everybody!

Greetings! I would like to check if it is normal for the engine to have a kind of metal rattling sound at random after travelling for quite some distance (lets say about 20km)? Also, how do I check if mine is Gen 1 or Gen 2 model? My bike is manufactured in 2004 (according to the log card) so I presume that it is a '04 model.

yes, rattling sound is not good. fjr infamous for having this problem. do a read-up online and it's all over the net.

and also, i would believe that:

Gen 1: 01-03 (normal stick signal lights, no glove box)

Gen 2: 04-05 (flushed signal lights, glove box)

Gen 3: 06-present (flushed signal lights, glove box, sturdy mirrors, adjustable fairing, blablabla..etc)

read up on the net bro. LOTS of fun things u gotta know that u can do with this bike. just gotta...READ..

gen 1 : 01-02

gen 2 : 03-05

gen 3 : 06-present

actually 2009 had some improvements but nothing cosmetic.

Thank you for your advice! I've searched the internet and concurred by the mechanic that the rattling sound is due to the cam tensioner. Now awaiting for spares so for the time being will have to bear the bearable sound =) Anyway, I saw a great and nice single digit FJR at Looi's this afternoon. I finally know what is the difference between the old generation and the latest generations =)

i'll drop by that shop after i utilise Hong Leong's servicing coupons.

btw i collected my bike today at around 3pm, the panniers are not here yet... i have to wait 2 more weeks.

and i got caught in the rain while i was riding back... not sure if its a shower of blessing because of the 11million toto draw tonight. hahaha~

When i climbed onto the bike today, it felt so heavy! I will need to get used to it again. Its been a while since I rode on a FJR and i had trouble maneuvering it.

By back wheel slipped a little while i was making a right turn... luckily never fall down.

The new engine is HOT~ feels like my legs are burning.

But it felt good to be on it again. Except now I have gotta get the engine run in done...

Sorry guys.. Got things confused. Question, can the rattling sounds be heard while riding at low speed??

Hi Parallel, I can hear the rattling sound only when my engine is at the idle rpm and after running for some distance i.e it cannot be heard during the cool engine period =) The rattling sound is quite similar to a chain running loosely randomly inside the engine and the mechanic say it could be due to the cam tensioner which I find the same cause on the internet too.

Oh my should I get a st11 instead of fjr?

St11-heavy, reliable bike, easy to do valve clearance, weaving at traffice easier, 6 gears, vtwin, carbs easy to service, not able to ride aggresively unlike fjr due to weight issue, max avg speed 230kmph.

FJR-lighter and better handling, cornering, easy to diy servicing, cam tensioner issue, 5 gears hence engine rev higher and torquey, look more sporty, drink more petrol, 280kmph as claim by FAZ, mine only hit 260kmph no more balls lol, final transmission easier to clean and lube.

If ur those chill guy get st11 and find guru simon, u wana ride aggressive at times play play FJR is ur choice confirm chop chop plus guarantee. Pick up faster too.

But i prefer FJR over st11 due to weight and handling issue. Fjr uses 180profile and if im not wrong st11 is 160. Also st11 sitting height is higher.
