for those who think that harleys come originally loud, you are wrong.

stock harley pipes are not loud. illegal pipes are.

I just wonder why our TPs dont catch harley riders for the mod pipes.

Discrimination thats the only reason i can think of.

They say loud pipes are chick magnets.

They say loud pipes are an extension of the male appendages.

But they never say that the magnet is of the wrong polarity.

They also never say that the extension is not ISO 9002 approved…

Half correct..

There are various methods to mod harleys..

1) HDs fitted with illegal system (Full) and pipes E.g Python, Vance and Hines etc..

2) HDs with original exhaust system & pipes with baffles removed

3) HDs with original exhaust system & pipes with illegal mufflers.

All will end with loud exhaust note.. especially (1)

Discrimination? The more appropiate word used for this thread should be "bias"

All as well, ends well.

Wooo..the topic is really hot in here....mind me...but not all harleys are loud..some give a really low rumble tone ....those loud ones are when the riders really blast their pipes.....

i agree with loud pipe save lives to some extent. Its not very good for loud pipes in residential area, but when going offroad riding in malaysia it scare the tigers away!!

LTA only allow steet legal after-market exhaust system to be use in singapore roads. These after-market exhaust systems have undergone testing, either by the vehicle manufacturer or by independent test laboratories such as JVIA, and have shown to comply with internationally recognised standards that they would not affect the safe operation or exhaust emissions of the vehicles. Every unit of such exhaust systems will come with a translated JMCA certificate to show that it is suitable to be installed on that particular vehicle make and model, and to be suitable to be used on the road.

Even in ama motocross racing in United States, the ama is trying to cut down the noise level of the racing exhaust system!! Just imagine 40 four stroke MX bikes at the holeshot line!!

So i guess is just a matter being considerate.

Pertaining to the high motorcycle accident rates recently, we could use this hour to highlight to relevant authorities that IT IS A FACT THAT LOUD EXHAUST PIPES SAVES LIVES.

where did u get that kind of information from? sounds interesting... any scientific proves or statistics to back up on that statement? o_O

i will love to have some sound from my exhaust like most road legal system but not too loud like those race cans.but definitiy hate the paper work of LTA.think its really quite troublesome to get the paper across.the paper also cause the system to be "not so transfer able".

I was in a taxi, I didn't notice the fast GSXR 400 till it passed me, THEN I heard the loud after-market exhaust.

I was in a room on the 4th level over-looking a nice road with veheicles passing from left to right. Its clear to me that only when the bike has passed me, THEN I can heard their exhaust.

Morale of the story is, you can have loud pipes, but cagers WILL continue to pull up IN FRONT of you ... unless one day, manufactuerers decide to have bike exhaust pointing to the front to improve our riders' safety. Honda's 800cc 2007 GP bike is a good start (side exhuast) ... :cheeky:

Loud pipes save lives? I was passed by a group of harleys and I couldn't even hear my own engine revs. Till the time they left I was already at my redline (I think, cause phantom no tacho).

I was so distracted trying to listen to my own engine revs and concentrating on impending horde that I couldn't quite concentrate on the traffic. Thumb down for loud pipes.

i guess.. if everyone plays their part well and be considerate, everything will goes well.. if pedestrains uses the traffic lights and do not jaywalk, i think there's no need of any loud pipes to save lives.. and also, if riders dont mods their bikes to kbkb, especially at night and be considerate to give people sleep, i seriously see there's no need of any change in our lifestyles..

original pipes are good enough..

loud pipes are irritating .... but i think to a certain extent it is good when we squeeze among traffic .... which is illegal of course ... coz some drivers dun check blindspot ..... ur loud pipe will let them know u r coming ... think this is more polite than horning to let them know u r beside them ... but then this is because i am squeezing between traffic .. if i do everything legal.... i dun really see a need for the loud pipe .... normal pipe will do ....

Electric horns are not louder than air horns but louder than stock horns. Electric horns so far are legal as in has passed inspection before.

Why? those 2 strokes bikers la. u know how irritating the sound is when they drag their gear so hard, trying to acclerate very fast in their lower gears and occasionally make those back-firing sound.

I agree with fila^11 that its the attitude of the road users that counts, So what if the drivers can hear the loud pipes sound, will that changed their bad driving habits?

Not to flame up with the rest, just my personal opinion, I think this request is ridiculous.

I total agree with you.......

if every bike mod their exhaust can you imagine every min, sec voom pass it gone to faint...

i myself kanna the irritating noise every nite
