DIY Digital Volt meter, idle 11.8-12.1V, reving 13.7V. Good and healthy after I sand the battery anode terminal which was rusty.

Not sure I need to check, the IU is taking alot of space if only I have the slim IU. The handle mount switch is quite small actually.

 

The advantage of the switch is its water proof, locks firmly on the handle bar and no need to drill holes on the bike to install.

The kit that you buying the switch need to be fitted in a panel, 22mm dia hole needs to drilled, do you intend to do that?

I will be using back the stock flasher relay and follow the wiring as follow, I will tap into the wiring harness on the LHS handle bar switch and not at the rear as the wiring will be neater this way.. Basically I need to tap into 3 wires, the left and right signal wire and the relay flasher wire and connect up to the switch.

Since they have a bulb and led version, it does not depend on your stock turn signal module, which means, it should not be universal. Different bikes has different electrical schematic for the turn signal (hazard) circuit, unless it splice straight to the front and rear signals. Check your manual or the included instructions on where to splice the wires to.

 

I would think an easier way to do this is do a bypass of the left side signal switches. Tap the flasher power going to the left controls to your hazard switch, then return back to both the signal wires (left and right signal) of the left controls. All done near the left control connector which is hidden in the headlight cowl. You use back all the bike's electrical stuff so no worry about LED of bulb types, etc.

My 04'Z750 turn signal is using bulb unlike the 2010 Z1000 which I believe is using LED turn signal but then it will not be an issue if use back the original flasher relay.

 

The kit advertised I think is using the flasher relay for bulbs and when used on LED turn signal it will blink very fast or erratic.

 

Anyway I am not using the kit as advertised, I will getting my own parts, the diodes, handle bar on/off switch etc.

 

I have no issue to open the headlight cowl to access the wire harness as I already did that once to route the wire for my digital voltmeter, and I have the service manual to check up the wiring color code for the turn signals. So it should be an easy task for me. I will try as much as I could not to meddle with the stock signal switch as I would very much like my bike in stock condition.

 

F0r 2010 Z1000 as long as the owner is confident to open up the headlight cowl and not afraid of breaking any parts it should be quite straight forward and the wiring for the turn signals can be checked by opening up the LHS switch control if no manual is available anyway I believe the color code is standard for all Kawa bikes.

No, not drilling. I intend to secure the switch with cable tie on the handle bar or under the ERP IU mount.

I am not sure how much you are paying for the kit, the flasher relay you may not need it as the stock flasher relay is good enough, in the end you only use the switch and the wires which can be purchased from SLT for $10.

 

I have made the purchased of the handle bar switch ard S$19 inclusive of shipping, the parts should reach in 1-2 weeks time, we'll meet up for the DIY.

I mean tap the wire close to the left side switch control connector, which is hidden behind the headlight cowl. That way, the wire to your new switch need not be too long. I think the guy on the thread you posted tap it near the flasher relay which is on the rear portion of the bike. The kit seems to be more involved and IMHO unnecessary, as we already have a flasher. What I mean about the LED version is if you are getting that kit. The DIY method don't touch the stock flasher at all. Very easy tap without modifying the stock parts much.

 

1 more thing about the tap splice you posted. First time I use them I cut through my original wire Don't press it too far like I did.

 

You are right about securing the switch. The amount of pressure when depressing it may cause it to move unless it's a flip type rocker switch.

 

Z1000 is using bulb signal, only the brake light is LED. Think most kawa are using 2 pin flashers and there's only 1 color wire for signal power to the switch (for both left and right signal).
