I mean tap the wire close to the left side switch control connector, which is hidden behind the headlight cowl. That way, the wire to your new switch need not be too long. I think the guy on the thread you posted tap it near the flasher relay which is on the rear portion of the bike. The kit seems to be more involved and IMHO unnecessary, as we already have a flasher. What I mean about the LED version is if you are getting that kit. The DIY method don't touch the stock flasher at all. Very easy tap without modifying the stock parts much.

1 more thing about the tap splice you posted. First time I use them I cut through my original wire :( Don't press it too far like I did.

You are right about securing the switch. The amount of pressure when depressing it may cause it to move unless it's a flip type rocker switch.

Z1000 is using bulb signal, only the brake light is LED. Think most kawa are using 2 pin flashers and there's only 1 color wire for signal power to the switch (for both left and right signal).

Sorry for my bad English that you don't understand what I was trying to say, but that was what I intended to do in the first place, if you look at the signal wiring diagram the malaysian/canadian model come with hazard light switch, and the wiring connection is tap from the LHS control switch wire harness hid behind the head light fairing.

Look at numner 9 on the diagram where the hazard light switch is available for msia/can model

http://p1.bikepics.com/pics/2011%5C07%5C11%5Cbikepics-2238165-full.jpg

The Z1000 03-06 model have have much commonality with 04-06 Z750, so do join use for the DIY since you have already bought the hazard switch but never embark on it.

You are right on the flasher relay, I have not bought the kit yet (32USD). Which handle bar switch you have bought?

Anyone wants to accompany me to JB for service? My head gasket sprung a leak :( Might as well do the valve clearance etc. Think it's safe to go for a Thailand trip before fixing it? Just a small leak with clear oil building up above my header flange.

I think its alright since its only a small leak.

Aye, I think there's no point riding too fast on our roads here also. But its always good to know that you're just a slight twist away from smoking the other 'general' population. Just don't try smoke anything with termis on. I average 200km for each tank on a 2006 but I pump once in 2-3weeks.

Track anyone? ;)

I don't mean insanely fast. I mean ride the bike like what it's built for. You know, like accelerate fast, twist the throttle abit more sometimes .. etc ... if you get what I mean :p

I am riding a 2004 Z750, 300km fuel light starts to blink and can travel another 60km till its dry.

oh Z750, no wonder you can get such a good FC bro .. :)

The 2010 Z1000 is not only beauty on the outside its also beautiful inside. The kawasaki Z1000 design is much better compare to other competitors in my opinion, good job Kawa engineer.

Tempting!!! This is the color scheme which I like the most. The silver accents enhance the sharp styling of the bike. But sadly, they don't have it in 2011 :(

b3nn don't resist! Let's mass order the bike and get a better deal! :D

Sometimes I think I am not going that fast, until I realize there are no other vehicles next to me. The bike begs you to twist the throttle.

Just needs a good pair of pipes to get it to sing.

Ah, good you got the idea too. Haven't bought anything yet. Do let us know when. May join you if I'm free.

Didn't read that thread in details. What's the diode for? Don't see a need for it unless you are worried about shorts.

Because the handle bar switch is a SPST, the left and right signal wires tap will be connected together at the switch. (Y joint in the diagram)

Without the diode, both left and right signal will blink together even when you signal left/right during normal operation (hazard switch off).

The diode limit the current to flow in one direction and not the other. So during normal signaling the current will not go to the hazard light switch where the left and right signal wire are joined together.

The diode will not be required for DPST switch like what the kawasaki oem switch (see kawaski signal light schematic).

Not sure I need to check, the IU is taking alot of space if only I have the slim IU. The handle mount switch is quite small actually.

The advantage of the switch is its water proof, locks firmly on the handle bar and no need to drill holes on the bike to install.

You can check for clearance on my bike. I have the slim IU. PM me for my number.

I just received my bill for the shipping charges from VPOST europe, it cost $308 to ship my GIVI rack from UK to SG.

The package weight is 4.5kg but the volumetric weight was 73x58x27/5000= 22.8kg

Europe Shipping Charge = Base Charge S$23.00 + Weight charge $10.50/kg + Fuel Surcharge$2.00/kg

How to Determine the Chargeable Weight?

As per freight industry practice, the chargeable weight of a package is calculated based on Volumetric or Actual weight whichever is higher.

Volumetric weight = [ length(cm) x breadth(cm) x height(cm) ] / 5,000cm

Minimum chargeable weight is 1.0kg and an incremental weight break of 0.1kg thereafter.

Now I am asking Vpost to dump all the packaging material and ship in bubble wrap hopefully its cheaper else I will fore-go my rack and the $119 paid is going down the drain.

Ouch. That's always the problem with shipping from overseas, that alot of people don't realize. Think their prices keeps going up though. Quite a while back, I ship a touring seat in for US$200. The foam to protect the seat can make 3 seats :)

The shipping cost is not justifiable, the rack I already paid 119 plus the shipping cost $300 amount to $400plus, even I order another rack from msia for $165 it still cheaper than paying the shipping.

Damm VPOST refused to repackaged, but agreed to remeasure and dispose the item upon my approval.

Only for top box it should fit a Hepco box, the rack is now in UK. Anyway I wrote in to Vpost to appeal, because talking to the Filipino FT is hopeless. :(

Just found out the oil is the brake fluid, the mechanic must have push in the brake piston too much during removing of the brake calipers when taking out the wheel. The brake fluid has eaten some paint on my upper triple tree and some on my fork tube.
