Well. to open such topic would of course invite controversy. One has just got to learn to accept.

It's always good to ask the reason for speeding. Speeding for fun(racing) or to make up for lost time(late for work.. appt)??

I'll be frank and honest. I normally go between 90-100km/h on the expressway but I'll speed if I'm late for an appointment or work, that's for sure. I'll not afraid to go 110km/h on the expressway but I'll be extra careful and try to do it in the safest way possible like signalling when overtaking.

If speeding for fun or racing, then its a different ball game altogether.

Ppl can disagree or argue my point but I'm sure there are many others out there whom have done exactly the same thing as me.

agree bro. BTW now i ask e thread starter bak, hab u try spding? nv b4? N nv in e future?

b4 i got my liscense, i swear tat i will nv spd. but is a diff story now.

Sometimes... we all learn a bad habit or two from everyone on the road. Speed is really a relative thing. We all know its dangerous when our speed increases, sometimes we just dunno how much more. Its always not fast enough, until we crash. Maybe a little restraint on the throttle may just save our skin... dun shoot me :sian:

P-plate should be an attitude to safety and riding. There's always more to learn.

i wanna share my personal experience here:

i have currently 2 bikes, one being a 110cc cub and the other a 600cc roadster

therefore i have adopted 2 very different styles of riding, with regard to the power i can get from these 2 machines

with the 110cc, i have never ever hit the extreme right lane of the expressway, believe it or not, i tend not to maintain at speeds more than 90km/h, firstly is becos of stressing the small engine, and the second is becos of safety. so i only use the extreme left lane all the time, and only sometimes the central lane for overtaking. i see myself 'crawling' behind trucks, vans, and buses, perhaps u can say tat's dangerous, but i have my own method of defensive riding.

on the contrary, with the 600cc, i use the extreme right lane most of the time, well, i dun travel at 90km/h, but if i do tat, i would use the central lane. but come to think of it, most probably u would meet up with a 'slow' driver with his speed 'slightly below 90', so u would have to use the right lane anyway. furthermore, there's oso overtaking heavy vehicles from the left lane using the central lane. i would have to go up to 100-110 km/h often, and tat's wat the extreme right lane is for, overtaking.

in my point of view, if u r on the road, u have to go with the flow of traffic, either u beat it or u avoid it. i dun think goin an extra 20km/h is considered speeding unless u tell tat to a policeman, but come on, a policeman doesnt maintain at the speed limit all the way to his destination too. its an give and take situation. unless u r toking abt excessive speed, like goin more than 40km/h off the speed limit, zooming past everything like....... GhostRider ??

Yes, sometimes, even got a speeding ticket four years ago, so I'm also stupid and irresponsible...

I'd rather proceed at a 100 and get away from all the blur drivers crawling along/commercial vehicles speeding along the expressways at 80.

Sometimes i'll even go faster, to get the hell away from all these potential hazards and into a clear stretch of road where i'm safer.

that just about sums it all up :thumb:

I thought this was also for Malaysian highways when riders speed. 1 group I went with had a lot of smokers. So the breaks are longer and the speeds are insanely fast. On a Harley, I can't catch up, so I left earlier and let them catch up with me. My speeds on Malaysian highways are somewhere from 110 - 120 kph. Yeah, I'm a slow rider, but I like to take time to enjoy the ride

at nshw at 110 to 120 is already road hogging

my mum always tells me not to rush (speed) when i leave the house late, when it's raining, or when i didn't get to sleep because i was up working (sadly that happens way too often nowadays). and i always tell her i ride only as fast as i can, no matter what the circumstances, which is the truth.

the only difference when i'm late is that i'll filter a little more at walking pace and i'll no longer sit behind right-lane roadhogs with my right signal flashing, i'll just overtake by left. which actually doesn't make me much faster (but like some say, could make a real difference!). my cruising speeds can't change when i'm late, even if i try, because i'm always as fast as road conditions allow me to be (according to my own very conservative judgement).

i'd rather she say drive carefully because that's really what matters. speeding is a symptom not a root cause, of bad driving/riding which can cause accidents.

i agree with angu's spirit and i think too many people are taking it too literally. don't take it as 80 vs 100 km/h... just take it as [max safe speed] vs [max safe speed + 20-30 km/h], and you'll see his point.

If you stick to the right lane it would be road hogging. I still like to ride and enjoy the scenery. No need to rush.

The thing about max safe speeds ah... is they are always maximum safe speeds until something crashes in front of you and you realize too late you can't stop in time and crash too, or had a very close call, and then reflected that 10 or 20 less would have kept your nerves intact. Its always not fast enough until you crash. But then, I always overtake left right centre when i got a clear safe chance in smooth traffic.

P-plate should be an attitude to safety and riding. There's always more to learn.
