I spent many years searching for this bike, eventually i got it and was amaze tt more and more people are interested in this bike. when i was looking around, pple told me it is a scrap bike, don't waste time.

eventually, my search is over after 5yrs. condition is really horrible, think i need to spend at least 1 yrs (hopefully not more than 1 yr) and a few thousand (hopefully not) to restore it.

hope u get 1, but pls note, this bike is not as fast as rumours, unless u change this and that and later, like me jam the piston, top is only 168km/hr stock, max rpm is 9000, 33bhp, wt 103kg, full tank - 9.2ltr, reserve 2 ltr, for 50km/hr = 50km per litre, DT200 engine, carb TM28SS, so don't expect too much, i like it mainly for the design, as i can' t afford Monster.

If u 1 really fast bike, go for the new or old nsr, kips, tzr, lc, rs, they may be much faster and less problem. as my main problem now is spare parts.

It's just a humble slim Cafe Racer design and tt's my intention of using it. now, i am searching for the right carb - tm28ss, and i will ride below 90km/hr after it has been back to stock.

You got the bike bcoz u can't afford a monster?

A 6-7 yr old monster would cost arnd 4k... comparing with this rare bike, which I've seen in bike shop once, seems like u'll have more agony and need spend more to look for the parts.

I dun think that's the real reason that u bought this bike rite?

i used to owed a banana yellow colour SDR200 in 1988, FJ1511, bought it for $5300. even the wheel is in yellow colour, chassis & engine were well poloished & chrome. a year after owing the bike i converted the seat into 2 seater & always tried to scared off d young gals that i pillon. wonder is it still on the road now?

during d good old days i love to smoke d nsr, tzr, kips & lc. d SDR was almost d king of class 2B then. Had even tried to challenge a tz250 & rd350. SDR is good for pick-up & mid-range power. as d bike is light & not rigid during high speed riding when negotiating a bend & during straight, it wobbles a lot. I only managed to do 160km/hr top speed. However, due to d bike without a rpm meter, i have over-revved the engine after 2 years.

As my bike was a famed road bully then, one fine sunday morning i found my bike being vandalised with smashed petrol tank, mirror & flat tyres. After, i have to spend $900 to restore it & sold it away for $3500 to a chap staying at ang mog kio.

Until today i still love to admire this amazing cafe racer that have several times almost get myself kill on d road. LONG LIVE to d S-speed, D-demon, R-road racer.

cheers :thumb:

Looi had one displayed. This year alone i only saw twice on d road, thus, u have to b patience.

Really can't afford Ducati Monster (mentioned monster as SDR and Ducati using cross tube frame), think ex/present Ducati owners should agreed that maintenance is hell.

Remembered Bike Connection once advertised 2 units of 900SS (built 1990, square single headlight, very light and small in size, a perfect racing bike), tt's also 1 of my dream bike. I was very keen, so before committing myself to the 900SS, I did a search on the net and was pretty horrified by present Ducati owners commends (from various countries), they love their bikes, but they mentioned that maintenance is hell expensive and troublesome. Their bikes is not their everyday transport, they ride it on weekends to gather with other Ducati fans. Their bikes usually sit in their garage for appreciation. I can't do that in Singapore, our multistorey carpark is not fire proof, unless they allow me to park in the fire station or I strike toto and are able to get my own garage (but sorry, if i strike toto, i will buy myself a RX8)

Ducati (must be red in color) to me is like a Ferrari on 2 wheels, regardless how good the R1 or CBR can be, they are just no match to the Ducati in term of character and design, it's just like Honda NSX or Nissan Fairlady Z350 compare to any Farreri or Porsche.

So, if you think you can afford machine price @ S$4k, pls think twice, it's not just machine price, there's a lot more, tyres, valve adjustment, timing belt / chain, and etc... if you need to change/service all, tt's hell.

SDR is different, most parts are shared with other models, you can find the speedometer on FZ150, handlebars on TZR, switches on various bikes, taillight on MZ dirtbike, signal light - Ah Boy can offer something nicer, Yamaha bike is very simple and easy to maintain as compare to Ducati, further, 200cc bike is much cheaper to maintain as compare to any 400cc bike, m i rite?

Hi SDR, I personally don't think SDR will lose out to nsr/kips/lc/rxz etc... Stock vs stock, SDR will beat them hands down...

The prob with SDR is that it lacks spares.. Let alone perf parts.. And parts are generally much more expensive than other 2B bikes (other than the iltalian bikes). Thus most SDRs on the road are shabby. Very tough to hop up a SDR, as the technology they employ is pretty complicated (compared to other 2B bikes). Even if you can mod a PC pipe in, that bleendin' pipe is tuned for midrange only! Totally unsuitable for drag races!! No topend!

I've "eaten" more then my fair share nsr/aprillia etc for breakfast with my trusty SDR ages back.. Acceleration is on par with a RVF, only losing when the speeds exceeds 120kmph. That's a stocker. With jus a bared airbox.

168kmph is not at all lousy, as yr meter's 'heavier' than the nsr/kips'... Generally, theirs should be reading ard 180kmph already. Rem- that SDR is not tuned/geared for top-end, thus might lose out if you mention flat-out top speed. But they reach their topspeed taking donkey ages... While you're shaking yr balls at yr home already..

Have more confidence in yr bike. Treat/service it well, and it won't fail u... My only gripe abt that bike is its stock pipe... Crap, and weighs in at a ton. Cracks often and will shake itself loose in no time...

Miss my SDR...

Miss my SDR...

Thanks for your advise, bought this bike more for collection purpose and leisure riding to nearby kopi shops to meet up with friends. Not for racing. It will be a torture and very expensive task to ask senior citizen to run. Later, here and there spoil, need to hospitalised, very x.

This bike is choosen as mentioned earlier, Yamaha parts were shared among the smaller bikes duirng the 80s, so parts is not really that rare. If you try to collect and maintain a FZR1000RR EXUP, then you might have serious problem of getting spares, but for small/naked bike, think quite okay, still manage to get with min effort.

Infact, to me, brand that are worth and easy to collect are : Vespa (I don't like) and BMW (Pre 95 models, but very few on the road, parts are all shared among their R or K model and BMW Germany still able to locate parts as old as 1960s)

Other brands that will scare me away but very tempted are : Moto Guzzi (Too Expensive, but Super nice), Triump (don't really know them), Ducati (Spares Price easily cost you a BOMB) and Norton (only like the Commando 750 - a 750cc but just as like SDR, very slim).

For racing, I will go for R1. But as age catching up and hv been on a tourer for 7yrs and still going, I am now very comfortable with 140km/hr average spped. I used to travel at an average speed of 170km/hr when touring.

I admit at times I wish to go to HL to bring out a R1 but I never did - since 2000, as I know this is not a practical bike, all it does is allow me to reach 280km/hr, corner at 200km/hr, wheelie, some backache, high maintainence cost, high insurance premium and wife will be super uncomfortable on it.

Guess when you reach my age, you will agree with me. Especially if you have a wife that loves to tour on bike.

I wonder is it still on d road now.

Guess it should be, some1 must be keeping it, condition looks good, unless the cockudos crashed it.

Did you regret for not keeping it?

I have been keeping a BMW R100R Mystic for the past 7yrs, heard now only 3 left in SEA, all in Singapore and we know each other, PML brought in only 5 in 1995, was told 2 being exported.

I dare not sell regardless how much problems she gave me, as I know I will never get it back.

I did not regret selling it away, however, i miss her & d sound of d engine when it roared at idle. Till today i still can re-call how d engine sound. Other then SDR, i also miss my 1993 yellow V-Max. if i have extra cash i will definitely owe a V-Max again.

May be u care to show a pic of your Mystic.

hmmm, Vmax, love it since 1987 when I first saw this bike at Lorong Chuan HDB carpark - remembered it was metalic purple, think recon, but never own it before.

Love the Black Beauty and the Yellow colour.

I would suggest u re-spray your SDR a bright metallic red or colours that is loud which can be seen from a distance, like my banana yellow SDR. I would not suggest your preferred black, green or dark metallic red. SDR suppose to b seen & not hide under d shadow of another bike that u park beside, SDR is already small & slim build. However, should u re-spary, i would suggest u show d shop d exact colour u want, example a sample of colour from d magazine. Cos once i re-sprayed my bike i told d shop that i want metallic red paint, but after it was not what i have expected. Thus, b careful & b details.

V-Max is already 20yrs old now & is still in production. I owed mine brand new for 7yrs & clocked 78 000 miles on it & regularly trevelled d V-Max to d north. It is d only bike that i wish to owe again one day. It has tonnes of accessoris & modification that can b done on d bike. U have to ride it to truely appreciate d raw power of d V4. Even until today d Max still capable of blasting away some of d new V-twin, in-line 4 sport bike on d road. Thus, i would rather owe a Max then a SDR. Pls do not mistaken me, i still love to admire SDR.

Your Mystic is truely beautiful, i love d retro-like of d dash-board. I believe i have seen your bike before, but cant remember where.

Wanted a Vmax badly, but shy away by the cost of owning a massive 1200cc, very difficult to own 2 big bikes, so, as can choose only 1, I sacrifice all bikes for this Mystic. I only regret I miss the chance to own the black beauty and y Yamaha doesn't offer original side panniers, I don't after market product.

hmm, Thanks for your advise, I will stick to original SDR colour as I want to restore to original condition. Furthermore, too bright, later others got red eye.

Hey there, Ive seen your SDR about 7 years back.. In a shop along Bendemmer road. I almost bought it. But exterior condition was way too lousy... Rust and all. But engine's good though.

And its also way overpriced. K, cheers mate.
