86th Time at Planet!

04/11/2011

10:35am

weather: Cloudy

Went to Planet to do up my DR800 before it's inspection, moreover the starter relay has burnt out, so have to hot wire the bike to start it..

Wanted to do quite a number of other things too, because the spare parts I ordered from UK have arrived. But didn't have the time. Got a doctor's appointment for my baby girl's immunization at 2pm.

So only did a fuel cock change, engine oil change and oil filter change and replaced the burnt out relay.

I got the new fuel cock and carb parts from overseas, but this Ah Chong say carb can use don't change. :sian: Never mind today I no time, next time then I change. :p

When chosing the engine oil, I was thinking if want to switch the type of engine oil this time. So I asked Ah Chong on the difference between several types, Ah Chong still say the 15W50 one is the thickest, so more suitable for old single cyclinder bike. So stayed with the motul 15W50 fully syn, when I took 3 bottles of it off the shelf, Ah Chong told me this.... .... This oil too good, your bike cannot use. @#$%^&*

Turtle..... already going to rain still tell cold jokes. :sian:

While waiting for Ah Chong to finish the job, I saw a crazy indonesian fellow dismantling his bike and sawing off his bike chassis into bits so that he can hand carry it back home. Really gives the name"Chopper" a whole new meaning. Totally Crazy!!! :giddy:

Ah Chong finished the job by 12:40pm just in time for me to rush home and get my little girl to the polyclinic. :)

Because the bike is starting to consume a bit of engine oil when going for long journeys, before I went off I also bought a spare bottle 15W50, but semi syn so that I can top up engine oil when I go malaysia next month. Then Ah Chong said something that made me go wah!!!!

Ah Chong : "This bottle give you free!"

Wah! So good!

Definately going back next time. :)

My second visit to Planet and really impress by Dr Chong. I told him the problem and he listened to the engine. Then he say pipe broke, just change and the problem gone. No more engine die off and just $10 for the pipe. Horay to Dr Chong and will visit him again.

Hello, are you there......

Thumbs Upzzz for Planet Chong,

Went a few times to diagnose bike problem last time.

Funny Boss with LOTS of experience.

I still remember I was riding my 600 when turning the handle bar it suddenly dies off many times. Went a few bike shop and suspect key ignition switch problem. And suggest to change it around $150 or so.

Last stop at Planet, Chong ride my bike and told me $10 bucks I solve the problem for you. I was damned doubtful about his words. He then tell me want to bet. If cant solve he pay me $10. But if I lost, I pay him $100.

In the end he trace the cable and do some re-wiring, and the problem really solved!!! The bike able to use for another 1+ yrs before the same problem emerged again. Followed his method, I reconnect the cable and its running again.

He only took 10 bucks from me of cos. I was amazed by his experience. Cheers. Saved money. Good bikeshop!!!

88th Time at Planet! :cheer:

02/12/2012

04:35pm

weather: Wet

mood: Better

Went back to Planet to collect my DR800.

Ah Chong even sms me the picture of the carb being dismantled before asking me to collect.

The mech who did the carb rebuilt was the pump malaysian mech, and I must say he did a fantastic job.

He didn't change the needle because he said the needles I have now are more suitable, giving better fuel flow than the stock ones. He even did a dry run blowing the engine to see if the spark plug become foul. And told me that the spark plugs were still good after 1 can of petrol. No idea how big the can is though!

At the first start, can hear the difference. Much smoother, and no jumping in the idling from 1K to 1.75K, so I can keep the idling at 1.2K instead of above 1.5K without having to worry about it dying off.

Saw Ben there, who was at Planet to change signal light bulb, but there wasn't any in stock, so he wanted to go Ah Ann there see if he has any and asked me to come along since I wanted to know where Ah Ann shop is.

Before I left, I got Ah Chong to take a look at my Phantom, the "tsk! tsk! tsk!" Sound is still there, and it keeps dying off in the morning unless I use choke to start and warm up. Ah Chong saw the problem straight away. Old Bird is Old Bird. Eyes very sharp. The problem was due to a loosen air hose, air was escaping from the carb, hence not enough air for proper combustion. Choke feed extra air and so it's a temporaily fix. Then I got Ah Chong to check see why my bike at low speeds around 50km/hr will tank slap one, the handlebar vibrate more and more unless the speed is higher or lowered. Ah Chong suspect it's the suspension and tited the bike on it's side stand then... .... Suddenly the side stand broke!

So left the Phantom there and rode with Ben to find signal light for his bike with my DR800.

Did a test run on the way home, and the bike backfired. Changed the exhaust to aftermarket one then no more back fire, and this time, after the carb rebuild, the sound was bassier instead of thundering loud. :)

Going to Sengit Regit to eat lobster tomorrow see how the performance.

89th Time at Planet!

05/12/11

11:20am

weather: Good!

mood: Good!

Went to collect back my Phantom.

When I was there, Ah Chong was very busy, and had to have his daughter answer the phone for him.

Waited until he was free before I could pay him.

Then when Ah Chong was free, he gave his diagnose, most likely the handle bars risers loosen, got tighten already, also the front wheel bearing is abit worn, still can use no hurry to change. Front fork good condition. But front brake pad is very old, although there is alot left.

So paid only $20 for the side stand and diagnose.

89th Time at Planet! :)

11/12/2011

11:20am

weather: Slightly drizzling

mood: I love my Planet! :lovestruck:

Went to Planet to tighten chain. Ah Chong early early came out, walking Buah Long Long with a hammer in one hand and a spanner the other to help me tighten. :D

While chatting to a Phantom rider, I got a message from Bor Bor that our little Belle Belle is fast asleep so can only go out later, sooooo it's bike bike time!!!!

I got an old fuel line from Ah Chong and replaced all the old harden and ready to crack rubber hoses, then dismantled my exhaust and placed rubber rings at the bolts and nuts to reduce the vibration. While refitting the hoses, I couldn't reach the carb, and asked Ah Chong how 'Da Guang' the plump Malaysia mech can reach in to fix it. Ah Chong said "Must ask him liao, later I help you fix" While waiting I cracked my head thinking of how to reach the outlet. Then... Eureka! :) Using the super long pilers! :) Went inside and saw Ah Chong also looking for the pilers!

After getting everything nicely fitted back, I even took the effort to bolt back my fuel pump that was cable tied by Da uang the last time.

Then still got time, so took out my seat and remodelled it to be more tight fitting, sawing and filing using Planet's tools, and 2 bolts I dug out from Ah Chong box of old screws! :)

While at it, I helped Jevan dismantle his handle bars before going home. :)

Total charge by Planet for everything = $0 FREE!!!! :cheer: Yay! :cheer: I love my Planet!
