actually they mentioned if fire, you cannot run fast enough.... that's their idea.

So in your argument of protection of assets, if there is a fire, whether you sit or not, the kiosk is gone. Maybe less liabilities for your injuries, that reason is more acceptable.

So you mean sit down and pump will have more chances of starting fire? Hmmm.... my opinion is not really.

Guys... Shell has given sufficient pressure to Exxon Mobil. Thats why Mobil too has launched the stupid dismounting thingy. I guess should be monkeys see monkeys do. So? Which petrol kiosks do not require dismount? Maybe considering terminating my speedpass liao wor.

I still stand in what williamliu posted! Not because of against any safety rules and biasness against bikers. Why I cannot strike 4d, toto, lighning or whatever than getting caught by fire whereby the percentage is higher than the rest above?

Bro, you mean you went to Mobil and they asked you to dismount?

Yes... Was told to dismount and they shown me the picture of the regulation laid by ExxonMobil (Bikers dismount whilst refuelling picture) And he said politely: Sir, you must dismount before the valve will be opened again.

I guess Shell had provided quite a stressful message or even pressure onto them which led them no choice but to tail.

Personally, I did not like the way this policy was implemented/introduced in the initial stage. The attendant gave lame excuses, the managers gave sympathetic answers, the cashiers cut off your pump wifout the attendants giving u clear answers.

The attitude was not right I must say, which pissed off alot of motorcyclist. They gave us the impression that, U sit i dun let u use, without properly telling us the safety aspect in a nice and polite way. They expected us to conform without realising we are educated adults who will think what the f*** are they trying to do.

Eventually, realise tat after re-fuelling, also hav to get down bike to make payment. So no diff between geting down earlier or later. But if u realli need help in keeping the bike upright, the attendants will help, if they dun help u, sit and pump till they come.

Also, its a small world and we hav forum brothers/sisters who hav relatives/friends working in Shell, i guess we juz hav to be more understanding and mutual in terms of humanity and not let stupid ideas/policies spoil our harmony.

Juz my 4 cents worth..~ GoOd Day!

When I was pumping with Shell, I used their Shell Card. Now I'm with Esso/Mobil, I'm using their Speedpass.

I found both very convenient as I did not have to get off my bike at all, just ride in, flash/insert card, top up, get receipt and go. Takes me less then 5 mins sometimes.

Now if they want to implement this policy, then there is no convenience left, so no point for me to patronize either station. I will try Caltex or SPC.

And if ALL the stations decide to implement this, then I will follow what many of my riding brothers are already doing, pump in JB and save half the money. Maybe can even save enough to get a bike with a larger tank then....

Then go to those stations with manual Pump only, as in Thailand.

If they implement it in Malaysia as well??

I guess most Malaysians would not give a 5hit to the rules... They try it. They get the effects.

If I didn't remember wrongly, I've read somewhere that in M'sia people even smoke in the petrol stations.....

:giddy:

I don't think they will give a flying f**k to whether you're on your bike or not, as long as you pay up!

f*** it.

let plan a mass outing to sh3ll

when all the pumps is taken up by bikes,

we slowly dismount, take our own sweet time to top up petrol.

we chitchat a while then ask uncle to assist us to pump.

then we only top up $2 of petrol but take up lot of their time...

how abt this?

This is exactly the same thing our forum boss Andy suggested last night... get 20 bikes gather, go 1 Shell station and attempt this stunt... :cheeky:

It's quite funny and a bit worrying if you think about it, many people (including many youngsters with their futures ahead of them) are getting killed every other day on the roads because they choose to ride, and there isn't any big hoo-ha about the safety condition on the roads at all.

But when it comes to refuelling, they are happy to raise such a big issue and enforce so strictly their policy, which is especially puzzling, since there's no historical evidence of any deaths resulting from refueling while on the bike at all.

The only valid reason they can give is basically, "for our own good".

Today "for our own good" may be a small thing to some people such as dismounting from their motorcycles, but where do we draw the line concerning such "for our own good" regulations? R(A) movies were once banned "for our own good" too....

How many of us will be willing to give up riding and take public transport "for our own good"?

You may call me paranoid if you want, but the minute we start accepting what others decide for us "for our own good" without question, then a whole can of worms is being opened...

Even the smallest spark can start a massive forest fire...

Put time, put plaCEE~!~!~! :cheeky:

We shud let them know bikes r humans too~!~! not juz drivers... we pay road tax n insurance too~!~! but the mass gathering may be too intimidating right??

sighzz.. but sad to say biker's image has always been tarnish by Television... like the 9pm Chan8 show.... the bikers r all ah bengs .... and also alot young chinese bengs n malay punks always go around doing stoopid stunts.. tarnish the biker's reputation even further.... But dat the minority....

But the public usually focus most on the negatives... n neglect our postives... soo.... if we do dat... would us be considered as illegal gathering.. even tarnish our reputation even further...

seems we r fighting a lose lose battle.... unless there is a group of celebrities or MPs that are hardcore bikers.... :nono:

Update

Zaihan has contacted me again a short while ago.

Whether TNP will publish a follow-up article will thus depend on the decision of his editor(s). There will be 3 possibilities:

1) Full article in TNP after a meeting with representatives from SBF

2) A shorter article in their "Speak Up" section with our opinions/views

3) The editor decides to can the issue entirely

He will contact me if TNP decides to do option (1).

P.S. He mentioned after reading this thread that the photos in his article were taken with a zoom lens from a distance, correctly guessed by some of you guys...

KEEP POSTING IN THIS THREAD and the other one in Latest News ( http://www.singaporebikes.com/forum/index....showtopic=71133 ), FAST AND FURIOUS. TNP's editors are reading them as we speak!!

>>>Fire Fire Fire (So? Its on a CAR... DUH!!!)

>>>SHELL - Safety and petrol

:sian:

So the next time Shell tells us cars are unlikely to catch fire compared to motorcycles, we can show them this picture eh?

Anyway MPex, I've already sent a letter to reply about the article to the ST Forum and Today, didn't CC to TNP though....
