ok, for those whom dun bother the read or dun understand....or those complaint using intel cpu is slow.

regardless of win or mac......lappy (no need to save power, no real different anyway) or desktop....want full cpu processing speed.

system:

win - disable bios cpu configuration - 'C0' n performance - 'intel speedstep'.

mac - buy n use app - 'coolbook', set at full speed. http://www.coolbook.se/CoolBook.html

done.

is that how its done? No wonder it doesnt make sense that i5 can be slower than dual core.

u dun have to switch on/off, just leave it once u have set it.

I know that I can leave it once I set it, but what if I want the maximum batt life possible? I'll have to change it back right?

Ok, maybe the issue of releasing full speed is overheating problems.

hi guys, im going for the 15" MBP.

but contemplating the screen type : standard , hi res glossy(HRG) or hi res antiglare(HRAG)?

i was thiking of the HRAG or HRG ..

any one used before both types? care to comment?

im looiking for something clear and sharp.

Posted

are you using it outdoors frequently? and the places you using got a lot of glare???

if yes, choose the AG one..

if not, the hi-res gloss one is better for nice movies and working..

are you a student?? you can get MBP at a discounted price..

will be getting mine in Oct once i got my student pass..

Wow, you mean you can choose the kind of screen you want when you purchase a new MBP?

Any additional charges for that?

look stop worrying about minor details

Sir,

I do not feel comfortable supporting your statements.

You entered an Apple/Mac thread, and talked about modifying Intel Speedstep straightaway.

You talked about going into the BIOS, when clearly, the Macs do not have one.

It's good that you changed stance and showed us what Coolbook was, but unfortunately, why did it had to be dragged into a pride-driven politically-correct debate thereafter?

Tell me, fellow biker, when a newbie computing biker goes the wrong direction and wrecks his PC or Mac on my sub-forum because a post or thread misinforms him on how to fix/modify his computer, how can I possibly account for this?

Responsibility in IT.inerary means taking care of bikers who use their computers/internet to access SBF.

I see that you're talking about CPU multipliers already.

It is my duty to inform the rest of the members here that your method involves altering the usual workings of a computer, like human surgery. Do this at your own discretion, there's risk involved.

Check out apple store for the kit.. There's 2 currently..

If not, all new macs comes with bootcamp assistant that helps you to install windows and boot windows or mac OS on start up.. Apple had videos on these various macs app..

I will answer this question as this:

The engineers had thought hard enough to create this techno. Use it as it is....

To add, I can also vouch that Windows can run fast in some cases, but for the Macs that I use, irregardless of what generation processor is inside the Mac (i.e. Core 2 Duo, i5 etc...), Apple engineers has succeeded and has continued to make their computer fast.

This is because they have very strong R&D, and piece their components (i.e.) chips, processors, buses, memory modules in strategic places so that no one component makes the rest of the components wait and drag the entire computer down in terms of speed.

One more thing: I find Mac OS X to be a very lightweight operating system. It is as light and fast.

Like I've mentioned before, even though the newest Intel i5 processor is supposed to have speed improvements, I used an HP laptop with Windows 7. It was fast at first, but it just became sluggish on some programs, and some even froze momentarily. So this second point serves to prove that Windows 7 just bogs down the (or shall I say, any) computer, no matter what processor it's equipped with.

Oh, and it's worth a mention, the Intel i-Series (i5, i7, and rumored i9) processors can overclock themselves electronically. It's called Turbo-Boost. For example, an Intel i5 laptop can have a rated speed of 2.66GHz, but can boost the speed up to a max of 3.2GHz when it senses that you need more power on the computer (e.g. when you begin to play a high definition 3D game).

As an analogy, it's like a car, with a turbocharger inside.

do it or not to do it, it's up to the users.

This statement is something that worries me.

But I'm not telling you why for fear that you will hit back at me again.

Anyways...

I've known all along that Macs use Intel. I'm an Apple user myself.

Back then I worked at an Apple store a couple years back, I've even dealt with Macs equipped with older generation Motorola G4/G5 processors.

This is not to bring up bragging rights to knowledge. But to be faced with a reply that goes "ok, for those whom dun bother the read or dun understand...", well the rest speaks for itself, and people will start to question you. It's henpecking to you, but this is justifiable to others.

The litre-bike would be used to its best potential if the rider knows the bike well, rides it, and knows how to handle it on the racetrack.

Not just by simply slapping add-on parts and modifying the ECU and what-not.

It's the same analogy as a technologist or an IT hobbyist who uses a computer, you agree?

It's the knowledge that prevents me from suggesting something unworthy or even damaging to others that need my help in computers. And I'm sure there are some folks here that are the same or even better than you and I.

I read about a slot-in solution somewhere on the Internet. Not too sure whether I can find it. Pretty cool, it's a small device that makes your MBP stand vertically, and you can choose to pick the connections (USB/Display Port, etc..) that you only require.

Hhmm...maybe u r running on 64 bit. Try to switch it back to 32 bit cos the cpu is capable to run on either depending in the OS. Mac is capable to run on 32 or 64 but windoze is EITHER 32 or 64.

PS3 is 64 alrdy la. Spend that money on it la. Still cheaper solution than alienware. No need to upgrade anymore.

Alienware really makes hardcore gaming PCs (and even laptops too). Remember seeing it in the US back in the year 2002 and everyone in North America had lots of good things to say about it. Had Dell not bought over it, we wouldn't see alienware in SG.

Anyways, fyi computers (be it PC or Mac) with processors that are Intel "Core 2 Duo", or the newer Intel i3, i5, or i7 can run either the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows Vista or Windows 7.

64-bit makes your computer very efficient. Apps can throw twice as much computing power to your memory and it'll gladly swallow it in one go. And your computer runs faster this way. I shan't explain the technicalities here. Need an essay to describe its benefits.

But there are pitfalls too.

Rule of thumb: you buy an Operating System that you know your games and software can accept/support. The last time I've checked not 100% of the apps and games out there online are written in 64-bit yet as x64 (as it's nicknamed) is not quite a mature technology yet.

Only the known ones are (like windows iTunes, Windows software drivers, etc...)

Oh and fyi, current Mac OS X operating systems (10.4 Tiger, 10.5 Leopard, 10.6 Snow Leopard, 10.7 Tiger) are already 64 bit.

In short, any 32 or 64 bit software and games definitely can run on your Mac.
