Hi S4 lau jiaos...

I'm currently looking for a VTEC 1. I've viewed some VTECs and so far I've yet to decide on one.

There's one in particular that I fancy. It's an FU plate and have a rather high milage of 70k. However, when I hear the engine, it sounds smooth and good. Did a test ride and it seems ok. Problem is that I dunno how to differentiate the sounds of an S4 VTEC engine. Is it true that an S4 engine is one of the best in the market? Owner seems to maintain his bike with regular engine oils changes and alternate iridium spark plug changes. How bros and sis??? Should I get it? Or can anyone help me to hear wether the engine is good?? Thanks ppl!! Can't wait to join the S4 gang! :help:

bikes with low milage may not necessary be good. it sometimes means the bike has not been ridden often enough, oil gets stale, gaskets deteorate blah blah. High milage on the other hand, may still be a good buy if the owner keeps the bike in good condition and replaces wear and tear parts promptly.

personally.. a higher mileage bike does have several downside.

1. If you were to sell, ppl will surely look at the mileage and claim that the engine is not very good, probably needs an overhaul. as an excuse or fact?

2. imagine the previous rider not taking care of the bike, changing those wear and tear parts.

3. lower resale value

but of course, all the above mentioned are the negative points. i too, agree with what palmer said. :goodluck:

Mileage is just one consideration of engine/bike condition.

Some high mileage bikes can be in much better condition than some low mileage bikes. It all depends how well they've been maintained.

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. So far all my friends are non-S4 riders so they won't know the engine sound too.. haha.. Quite true what Palmer said.

Lets say the owner does take care of the bike. Such as regular changes of oil and stuffs. Will 70k still be considered high for an FU plate? When will a overhaul be required? Does VTEC bike really have superb engines? :cheeky:

dont think so..

my FV plate , clocked 61K in mileage already. daily average of 55km.. through and fro work..

hey bro... i got my FT vtec1 at 6.8k, mileage at 74000 like that, total up everything is abt 7.4k.

so for urs, it consider not bad liao...

mine is also a high mileage bike... but from my seller, he told me he did a proper running in, frequent oil change n did a proper maintenance. so i just gamble n trust him lor... cos he oso travel far for his work... abt 40km per trip... so sometimes per day can clock 100km??

buying a bike is like making a bet.

if u feel everything is good, can consider... y not rite?

lower mileage of cos u feel its better cos engine not strained but how would u know if he got run in proper n nvr anyhow whack?? whack until got abit of prob sell away? there r riders like that so it's up to u to decide...

another factor will be how the engine was used. I can safely say that honda engines are relatively problem free given that they actually have very good safety limits placed on the engines. Would you rather take a low milage bike that has never even used its vtec with jammed and clogged valves or one that revs freely and makes more power with higher milage?

For me, I consider 15-20k per year "average" for a bike in Singapore.

So if a 3yr old bike has more than 60k on it then it's high. Less than 45 and it's low. Between those two markers is normal lah.

I got my FS plate CBR929 with only 46,000km on it just a few months back. Many I looked at were in the 80-90k range and some were showing 99,999 (once past this that's it)

Wah.. I really guess I would need some calculated gamble. Actually the guy is selling his bike in sgbikes. I think I'll give myself time to consider. Any of you guys willing to see his bike together with me? Haha. THanks for all the info... Appreciate them so much!
