Go for it lah. This way you get to be on attachment (no bond at all) until BOC. Full pay given monthly, the allowance is paid one-shot after your attachment. Like a small bonus. If you find a better job before BOC, you can resign and leave without much problems.

Ok bro

now waiting for the medical appointment letter (hopefully).

It's funny I went for the interview first before the job preview..

whereas some others went for job preview first before the interview

why like that?

Hmm... they can't conduct job preview too often. The institutions got other things to do than to always cater for visitors. So, maybe they try to maximise their time and resources by having the job preview less frequently.

was just wondering guys is PRISONS job really dangerous? coz i got a fren who just joined PRISONS barely 2 weeks and he tendered resignation although his basic was 2k plus plus,

the reason he told me was that a colleague of him got hacked or whacked outside by the inmates frens or by the inmates themselves when they leave the PRISON, so he fear for his family and his safety and hence quit the job although 2k plus is a big amount actually......

i mean in PRISON u guys deal with the bad people but do they really change when they leave?

just asking if its not a sensitive case here

The pain of discipline is nothing like the pain of disappointment

I don't think there is any reason to be afraid of getting *whacked* outside by ex-inmates and the like. As long as you are a firm and fair officer, not corrupted, etc, you should not be worrying about these things.

I have never heard about such stories of staff getting whacked outside, and I certainly do not believe it to be 100% true. Stories do "evolve" as they pass on from ear to ear. In all my experience, the coincidental bumps into ex-inmates of mine have never been unpleasant encounters.

By the way, the tattoo part I'm not too sure. So long as the tattoo does not symbolize or represent any secret society it should be ok. However, it's still up to the recruitment panel to decide on selection.

From what i heard alot of Prison Officers was beaten up by inmates while working. Some inmates even throw S.H.I.T at the Prison Officer. Wonder how true was it? Inmate cursing and swearing at Prison Officer is very common.

Cannot smoke, cannot use handphone, no aircon late 5 mins or mc allowance may be cut. For staff quarter not everybody can apply only for key appointment holder.

Hope all this are not true.

Last time in the 80s and 90s , 1 of the warden told me they actually beat inmates when they are trying to be funny by not following instruction 1.

Ya , the throwing Sh!t 1 is true , from wad I've heard from is a SPO kena.

Once u are inside a prison , u can't carry in any contraband items inside , only for some SPO , they are allow to carry phone.

But 1 thing gud abt SPS is they have this hardship allowance for JO.

Pls don't tailgate or stalk moi.:thumb:

Thanks...

It's been 4 months since the physco test till the signing of the appointment letter.

I like to know what are we newbies suppose to do during the job attachment till the BOC starts? How many breaks are there in a shift? Go canteen got free food rite? How's the shift hour like in a typical normal day?

Will kena those attitude officer or not in SPS? Hopefully i not so sway. Everywhere we go confirm sure encounter 1 or 2 those with attitude problem.

Will be going in as a JO. Poly dip holder. Currently working in a MNC doing manufacturing. This week retrenchment/restructuring week. Been working for 3 years. Job unstable. Going to tender next week. This made me choose my decision to work in the govenment sector.

Where got all 3 meals provided???

Office-hour shift: Breakfast & lunch

AM shift: Breakfast & lunch

PM shift: Lunch only

12-hr shift (some weekends): Breakfast & lunch

Extended shift (start a bit later than PM shift, ends at 9/10pm): Dinner only

Night shift: Dinner only

Of course, if you are required to work additional hours on any day due to exigencies of service, you will definitely be entitled to the meal that you would normally consume during the additional hours. I've ever worked PM shift and had to cover until 10pm, so dinner was provided.

I wouldn't say that the job no life. In fact, there's plenty of life! Although you are bound by the 4 walls, your colleagues and sometimes even the inmates are your source of fun and amusement. Of course, we don't do the stuff that happens in prisons like Abu Ghraib, but even holding a simple conversation with one of your inmates will help you pass the time quicker.

For newbies on attachment, I would say that you are lucky most of the older "attitude" officers would have resigned/retired by now. When I joined service, there are those old-timer officers with lots of experience who have plenty to share with you, but simply won't because they see you as a threat (higher paper qualifications, faster promotions means they get stuck at their present ranks). Can't blame them lah. Back in those days (80's, early 90's) some of them joined with only Pri 6 or N Level quals.

Nowadays, a lot of the officers you will meet would be those who joined after the mid-90's. They are more willing to impart their knowledge and experience to you in order for you to learn the ropes quickly. As diploma holders, you are expected to have a steeper learning curve than normal O-Level holders, i.e. be more independent in your work in a shorter time as compared to Corporal-level entrant officers.

During your attachment, don't talk too much else you will seem like a know-it-all. Instead, ask as many questions as you can think of. Even the simplest of questions might be useful in your future endeavours as an independent Prison Officer. If you don't know the reason why your mentor or buddy officer (you will be attached to one during the pre-training attachment) just open your mouth and ask. E.g. Why are you selective in searching the inmates? Why does the inmates carry their newspapers rolled up? Your questions might even help your fellow officers detect minor infringements committed by the inmates.

Of course, the #1 rule during attachment is, while speaking with the inmates, never ever reveal your personal information. Your internet email address, blog site (if any), home address, favourite haunts, pubs you frequent, etc. All these are bits of information that the inmates can possibly use to lure you into a trap and coerce you into corruption.

I'm happy to answer any of your queries as long as they don't touch on the confidential internal workings of the prison. I hope this information has helped you make an informed decision in whatever you are planning.

Thanks for your post. So during attachment we trainees only work one fixed shift? How about the uniforms? Where are we suppose to report on the first day of work??

Sorry bro asking you these questions.

During attachment you'll mostly be on office hours. HOwever, the deployment officer may choose to detail you on AM, PM and even night shift on some days in order to expose you to these types of work. Lots of things happen within the prison between 7am (AM shift) and 8am (office hours) so you'll need to be there to learn more. This will also help you make an informed decision whether to stick with the job.

Uniforms and accoutrements will be provided the day you are appointed. You will also be told where, when and how to report in on your first day of work. Don't worry - they've been recruiting officers for as long as I can remember and so far they don't screw up in telling the new entrants where to report.

Thanks for your reply. Already signed the appointment letter at vital. Will commence at the end of april. That's the last intake before the next BOC starts.

Will need to bring a "Big" bag to stuff the uniforms. Hehe.

Looking forward to it!
