from the did website.. an x ring can last longer then o ring.. meaning no need to tighten so often.. as Metalfyre mention... he have it for two year only tighten twice

200cc bike put xring might feel overkill... but chain and sprocket.... chain will cost more...

so if put something good and no need to tighten so often mean no need to change chain that fast... mean can save money too..

Hi. juz wanna ask something..

I bought my new phantom custom 4 in Feb 06.. I would like to know how many yrs should I ride my bike to make it worthwhile..

I think I would suffer a loss of $2500 to $3000 if I sell it this yr.. I'm planning to change bike next yr, which is 2 yrs aft I got my phantom..

Hence, how much roughly would my phantom be aft

1) 2 yrs

2) 3 yrs

Thanks for ur info guys..

Feb 06 till Present - Phantom TA200 Custom 4

Sometimes Results may be Disappointing, but it's never Discouraging..

There's no fixed rate of depreciation for your bike. In fact, you already lost a few thousand the moment you signed on the dotted line. Since you got it brand new, I'd suggest keeping the bike all the way. Keep it as a 2nd bike when you get your class 2, or 2a if you cannot wait. Especially since you know best the condition of your Phantom.

yea I'd say keep it too..till you get a car or sth then use your bike as a short distance transport then use car for long dist..haha to get it as 1st hand then sell it off, you'll lose so much you can't believe what you're hearing when you bring it to the bike shops or sth then ask the guy to quote you the price.. :giddy:

I bought my Phantom in May 04 for $6500, sold in Apr 07 for $3000.(Not counting the amount I spent on accessories & the interest on installments)

Keeping the Phantom did cross my mind, but I know I won't be riding it much anymore after I got my bigger bike. So I'd figured that the $3000 would come in more useful than a bike collecting dust in the carpark. If I'd kept it another year, I'd lose even more.

My opinion: If you feel that you want to upgrade, sell the bike to cut your losses.

That's coz you got another cruiser. Between one cruiser and the other, you'll definately go for the fresher, bigger ride. But if it's a different class altogether, that may not be the case. IE a sportsbike with the phantom. Or a scram.

Heya~ I'm new here.. Not sure if this is the place to post at, but here goes.

Anyway, I'm still having my Bike lessons, and frankly, I haven't even applied for my PDL yet, so maybe another month or so before TP @ SSDC.

Been looking around for bikes for a while, and the Phantom is tops my list.

Since you guys are 'seasoned' riders of this mean machine, wondering if you could give your honest opinions on the bike, esp when it comes to:

1) value (price is about 2.5k for 2nd hand right? ) New or 2nd hand better, for that matter...

2) comparison with Honda Vara XL125 (also a 4-stroke, but 125 CC with 15 bhp) or any similar roadster in it's class..

3) do you think it's a good choice of 1st bike for a P-plate like me?

4) Insurance (22 years old, no riding/driving experience. bicycles don't count, right?)

thinking of keeping it for 3 years, while i finish up my 2A as well, then upgrade to possibly a Super Four.. if not then i don't see why I can't ;grow' old with the bike.

just looking at it, i'm falling in love with the bike already. Appreciate your honest opinions.

Thanks lots in advance ya..

Actually, I would classify my new bike as a streetbike, but that's a minor detail :D

1) A new TA200 would cost about $6000+. Used TA200 range from $1.7k~$4k depending on age, mileage & condition

2) No experience on the Vara, but its 'weaker' bike compared to a Phantom, coz it gives away 75cc and runs a VTwin config. However, it does seem like bike that is more 'fun' to ride.

3) Phantom for P-plate is a adequate choice. HOWEVER this really depends on the rider.

4) Me to old to comment on a 22yo insurance...

Hi all,

wanna ask, is it ok to use STP products on motorcycles? Or is it only suitable for cars?

Currently using the STP engine oil treatment, as well as the Octane Booster which i add in my petrol tank.

I'm going to get my licence very soon and decided to get a 2nd hand phantom. Just asking all Phantom experts out there... Was the handling overwhelming for you when you first collect your bike from the shop? I sat on it and felt that the bike was a little bit on the heavy side...

So... how long did you guys get used to it?

Pls share your views. Eager to hear!

i rode ard in the seller's carpark for awhile b4 i venture out to the roads. wouldn't say got used to it immediately.. but can go straight and turn w/o falling can already.

1) Get a 2nd hand one better. At roughly 2.5k, even if you do a complete overhaul, it's gonna be cheaper than a new phantom.

2) Phantom will perform better than the vara, coz being a vtwin, the varadero will have pencils for pistons. I think the pick up etc is gonna be pathetic. But it looks good tho...

3) I've always said the Phantom aint a good choice for 1st timers. Folk find it heavy, and it skids around way too easily. I'd recommend a RXZ la..but up to u again.

4) lol i dunno.

Super 4 when you get 2A? I used to think like that. Now I'm glad I don't anymore. It's a bloody boring bike, imho.

Yep you can use STP products on 'cycles. But then probably once in a while ba. No need to keep using everytime. And why not just pump better petrol rather than use the Octane Booster?

The Softails, Dynas & Tourers will fit the cruiser billing perfectly. The VRods would be more like muscle bikes.

There are several Sportster models and I would think only the Custom fits a cruiser tag. My Sportster Sport has short handlebars and mid-mount foot pegs (thigh-calf angle amost at 90degrees, even closer to the body than a Phantom). The riding posture is somewhat agressive and the bike does beg to be whacked sometimes. Adequate torque is available at all gears. Triple disc brakes complete the streebike persona :D

Since you said it's heavy, just asking... what compelled you to buy this bike? Was it its looks that appealed to you? (as for me, i thought that it looks quite cool and best of all, it's a 4-stroker!)

By the way, was it tough for you to execute a U-turn when you first rode on this bike?

I didn't buy the bike. My dad did. My first bike was a Kawasaki KRR150ZX Super Kips.

I'd chose to get a sportsbike as it would be easier to learn more aspects of riding on a sportsbike than any other bike. That said, the reason I didn't sell the bike when my dad passed it on to me was the fuel economy, comfortable posture and the overall reliability.

Then again, the bloody Honda 'reliability' on this bike is a little overrated. If the gears go out on me again, I'm gonna have to consider swapping to a Pulsar.

U turn, I didn't have much problem, coz it was certainly easier doing it on a Phantom than on a sportsbike due to the wider turning radius of the handlebars.
