Wana ask when you all ride down slope, do u all release clutch in gear 1 n let engine brake do work or clutch in, free wheel and apply both brakes?

I clutch in and apply intermitten braking if I need to slow down.

I'm out of ideas here man. Does the sound only come on when you apply your brakes or even when you're off the brakes?

 

even if i'm off brakes or i'm on brakes, the sound is there when i slow down.. its obvious cos when i slow down the sound will be there.. and i'm sure it comes from the engine.. anyway mine quite high mileage bike.. ard 96k liao.. engine nv change anything before.. only gear box.. thats y i'm scared anytime could breakdown which is a turn off cos i solely depend on my bike for transport..

Sounds like a piston/piston ring problem. You sure it doesn't come when you're on the throttle? Or you just can't hear it coz the engine is roaring..?

i heard that if u clutch in and let it free wheel, it will save fuel? Is that true??

in a way yes...but to accelerate to a speed where you can clutch in and avoid being a rolling road block...u use extra fuel i think..

 

u do accelerate the wear of your clutch plate if you keep clutching in

i dun think so when i throttle the sound is still there.. cos normally when i slow down the sound is there, when i slow down den pick up speed again, the sound would disappear once i starts to throttle.. like u say, if i throttle and the sound is still there, wat could be the likely prob?

It is very dangerous to use free wheeling & dun become a habit, always use engine brake.

etky85, check your chain whether it's loose or not..

i thought mine was clutch plate problem but koon said it's my chain that's damm loose , almost about to fall out..

 

after tightening no problem now...

confirm not chain prob.. mine chain ard 3mths old and i hav juz tighten it.. the sound definitely coming from my engine.. if really due to piston and piston ring, how much would it cost? and how long would it take? anyone change b4?

Bro, I cannot be sure that it is your piston n piston ring. your problem's got me stumped here...and it doesn't help that I'm always logging in at wee hours like this. Take the bike to a mech to have things figured out

If you're scared, bring your bike to a couple of motordiams to see what they say. Don't commit to just one.

Hmm.. do u guys notice steam coming out from ur engine when it's raining.. I juz noticed some steam appearing from my engine.. But theortically, it's normal coz water will vaporise into steam when it boils.. But does tat mean my engine is too hot?

haha on a normal day, try dripping some droplets of water onto after riding or sth see what it happens..

 

btw these days keep raining, wanna ask when can you tell your spark plug problem or needs to be changed?

i just had my spark plug cable dried with tissue cos i think it was flooded..

 

my engine stalled each time i stopped at a traffic light.. somehow i managed to start the engine after shaking my bike vigorously each time..

 

i decided to go to Planet, cos it was the nearest most reputable shop i know.. went there, the mechanic checked, ah chong checked, all say bike no prob.. then my friend (working there), pulled out my spark plug cable, and said it was wet, and was spoilt..

 

anyone encounter this prob before..?

the light on my odometer is out today .. guess because of the heavy rain i went through this morning from stevens rd to pioneer rd north on pie from 7.45 to 8.10..

 

the rain was terrible man... all wet..

It's normal. Irritating but normal.

Typically when there are problems starting...you hear the starter motor turning but the bike doesn't start...or when you experience power loss as you throttle.

Experienced before...but not on Phantom. The rubber sealing the plug in not water tight anymore.
