Insurance should be easier than getting a loan. Just search the net for the ins co contact number & call them to get quotation. Choose for the best price alrdy, then go to their branch to pay up. Thats all.

Im not sure about the loan part.

Oh ya. I rmrb last time Uncle Lim said he want to sell his CBR (to get a new CBR) if the price is right. I would recommend u to contact him cos his bike is superb. Very well taken care by the experienced, which is himself. How long has Uncle Lim been riding? At least 10yrs I guess. :)

His nick is Limbat.

Uncle Lim, got advertising fee or not? Haha... Just kidding. :cheeky:

i will send a pm to uncle lim! haha thx for informing

I think it's the other way round. Insurance first then bike. Because if you do things your way, your bike will be on layup

insurance first if u wanna ride the bike home, if no insurance, tow back to ur place :o

i just called ntuc and told them i wanted bike insurance, gave them all the relevant details, the plate number of the bike*

..few hrs later went down to collect the insurance policy and pay for it.

then went over to lta with the owner and transferred bike ownership..

headed back to his place, made the bank transfer, and owner handed the keys over :D

if u intend to pay by installments, might need to check with bike shops if they do re-loaning or something, or find a bike under coi/ hire-purchase..not too sure about that..

baby, u're my love..

in order to make the bike transferable to your name, here are a list of things to do.

1) Settle your insurance [without this u cannot transfer name.]

2) get your name tranfered @ LTA.. [if you got no license, u gotta tell them you are laying up the bike imo is waste of $$$...but u still must have insurance to layup the bike]

3) then enjoy your bike after paying the $$ to the seller.

yeah. but if u buy from a private guy and u wanna reloan from shop, I THINK AH..

the shop wants the private guy to sell the bike to the shop, then, they will sell YOU the bike and reloan it to you.

last time some one wanna buy my bike like that.. abit pointless la. and mafan and you and i will be the losing end.. the shop will be the happy one. so, IMHO, private sales better.. buyer gets his stuff and happy with the price.. seller also happy.. better.

wa so in tis case if i no money now thn can onli buy from shop la? cuz i can onli pay by installment. haiz

in purchase of 2nd hand bike, need to take note of the following:

1. insurance coverage

2. ownership transfer

3*. road tax

*refers to item can be ignored as long as the bike u r buying has got road tax paid up till some date into e future.

thru bikeshop > basically offers one-stop service. when u buy the bike from them, items 1 -3 are taken care of.

thru pte seller > basically u r only getting the bike from the seller. items 1 - 3 will be done on your own. there is an option to outsource getting the relevant paperwork done at motorshop, but they will definitely charge u for the service provided.

as for re-loan/installment, pretty much as per what was mentioned by ZR. u can trying calling up the bikeshops to enquire on their loan packages. do note that not many motorshops does re-financing for bikes not sold by them.

the amount they can loan is also dependent on the market value of the bike. e.g. they won't offer you a $5k loan for a bike that is worth $2k in the market. quite likely u will need a guarantor as well to support the re-financing since you mentioned u r still schooling.

there are some pte sellers who are offering to let go of their bikes by adding u as the sub-rider under their insurance. i.e. bike still belongs to them, and u r legalised to ride the bike, but u pay for the installments. i would highly recommend that u avoid such arrangements as it can be quite troublesome when the other party decides to play u out after the installments have been cleared. (u r not the owner of the bike remember?) it is legally costly to bring the other party to task if this happens. not worth it.

Then what makes u decide to get a bike? Just curious.

Try search around the garage sale. There should be 1 or 2 if its not yet sold. Its cheaper than bike shop as well. I dont mind accompanying u looking at the bike condition if Im free. Im not expert though.

Good luck with ur search. Rmbr to join our outings when u free.

Note: CBR150 is for commuting, not for speeding.

What nonsense... My darling can still give me quite a kick man...

wow! thx for all ur help!

i wan a bike to go to sch b4 i go in army ma. for the FC of cbr its quite worth it i think. considering i pay 50+ for concession + top every month, and i get to go anywhere i want. haha

at first got thot of wave or phantom, but eeee not suitable for my style. and yea, i have worrying parents so i wont go hard with the engine.

i will definitely join in the cbr outing YEA! quite excited!

ohhh now that really clarify things up. but thn now is need to find a shop tat sell a gd cbr so i can pay installment or find a private guy who sell cbr thn find a shop for reloan. right?

While monthly installments are manageable, do consider if you want to pay that much more for interest. Just a thought yeah, I am kinda noob at this too...

With regard to assessing a second hand bike the list of things in order to look at would be:

1)frame

2)engine

3)the rpm responsiveness

4)scratches on the engine case

5)Covering the endcan (to test for how healthy the engine is

At least that's what i have been taught... I am still noob at assessing other bikes myself.

Rock on beautiful people.

Personally, I'm thinking either Mr. Teh Tarik in Yishun or Jalan Kayu... can go chill at dams after that...

Hmm owning a bike is like adding a financial liability to yourself.. A pretty manageable liability for my case, because i know about my financial status.

How to know one's financial status and is it being healthy or not....

Now, here is a layman terms of explaining it...

If currently u are having $400 monthly.. and you are *****ing about not having enough money to spend monthly and u usually have like $1 - $5 left in your bank before reaching the end of the month, I would STRONGLY SUGGEST YOU AGAINST GETTING A BIKE.

Why say so?

Because getting a bike, IMO, during the first month is the most shiong for first time owners... why because after you paid the LUMP SUM of $ for the bike and insurance and season parking.... you still have to buy/pay...

1) first tank of petrol

2) bike/car shampoo

3) rain coat / pants

4) helmet

5) Cash card top up.

6) disc lock / other security items

7) rectifying any problems. or servicing.

and don't forget as a newbie owner, we always kana chop... into pieces... not even a bit left by bike shop sometimes... so we LL have to take this lor... So what i am trying to point out here is, know your wallet's pressure well enough before you start to throw money into something which YOU THINK you can HANDLE, but in fact you CANT handle.

Yeap that sums my IMO for bike ownership.. because i have seen some people buying a bloody super4 after loaning $ from me.. then disappear with the money.. never even return to me.. Now the guy signed on.. got lump sum of money... STILL NEVER RETURN TO ME.. kns.:sian:

Bro, my suggestion is dun think of paying using ur NS pay. It might not be enough as NS pay is freaking too low, unless u are a specialist or officer. The yearly insurance renewal fee + road tax might kill you.

Another thing is, the more you down-payment, the lesser the installments. Less strain on your pocket if you get it from a bike shop.
