Sure I can...

Riding in Belgium.. or Europe for that matter .. is totally different from riding in Singapore. Not only do you have to consider the climate conditions but the style of riding, the bikes on the road and the distances are all not comparable.

Lets start with the weather conditions and more specifically, the seasonal aspects; untill beginning of this month (April), it was basically impossible to ride a bike ever since last year November due to freezing temperatures and snow. This year has been an extreme cold and show winter but basically, if temperatures drop below freezing point, you do not ride period.

Anyone crazy enough to try will find themselves lying on the road very quicky because it would be like riding on wet leaves, puthole covers etc etc constantly. The road is wet and possibly frozen over and your tires have no grip and also wont warm up properly even in the dry. If there is snow, it is even worse because the smaller roads are not cleaned and frozen over snow turns into ice. My car is also on special winter tyres (deeper and wider profile) and still can spin if not carefull.

This means that most bike owners put their bikes in storage after autumn or sometimes already after summer and only take it out again when the sun shines and temperatures are above 15 degrees in spring time. This winter period also means that bikes generally do less milage here and even older bikes can be found for sale with reasonable milage. Like my VFR which was 12 years old and had only done around 50k clicks, quite reasonable.

More to come about riding in europe soon...

PS: Chris: is this educational value enough or u prefer more technical mumbo jumbo? hahaha

Two things I'd like to highlight here:

1) this fella is riding an off road bike, off road grove tires on fresh snow, no hard surface underneath so no frozen slippery ground and still quite some grip, similar to riding in muddy terrain

2) see how gingerly he is riding the bike on the normal surface, away from the snow

From another experience, when going riding all terrain bicycle through snow covered forests - I still see plenty people falling over, slipping and sliding, especially on the areas where the path has been flattened by other bicycles before, turning fresh snow into hard, icy snow - so imagine if u r on a faster and heavier motorbike...

Its lots of fun, if u are willing to take some chances and not scared of a few scraps and bruises hahaha

Personally, I'd rather fall on my bicycle than on my bike (doing 120 kph)...
