No need HEL... GPR steel brake hose can already... similar and cheaper... it just doesn't have their funky colours.

And brake pump kit.... well i have to ask.. why u need such a strong brake?? Going racing ah?:cheeky:

not really, i was advised to change the pump kit every year! im a noob at this, so im checking things out.

brake hose was also recommended by them.. for HEL...

otherwise, i haven touch the brake fluid for a very long time.

Fair enough.... well just to share with you what i learnt.

What's the difference between rubber and steel brake hoses.... obviously the material. Rubber (stock) brake hose tends to expand due to factors such as wear and tear whereas steel hoses tend to be more resistant.

So what's the advantage of having steel hoses vs rubber ones? You will have better braking as the hose does not expand under brake fluid pressure when you press the brakes....

What about brake pump?? Well you just get a newer pump that is stronger lo that's all....

At the end of the day, the difference is there, but its not significant, but its there nevertheless.

If you are really keen on stopping in a hurry, use oversized brake discs....

And why not throw in BREMBO calipers while you are at it?? look at that monster!! 3 piston calipers!!

Bottom line is... people will tell you alot of things you need to change this and that on your bike la..... your bike can or cannot make it la.... but the final decision lies with you, whether you want it for yourself or not?

maybe my description a bit off, but when front brake is pressed, the end lever presses against a soft spot (i refer as drum), which the mech applied WD4D direct against.

is replacing brake fluid tedious? im trying to find a proper website demo for it. I have the fluid bottle ready, and other tools are not.

i guess its time to change fluid for both front and rear (correct me if wrong) since the last touch was in 2008?

the problem persists only for front brake though.

DIY bleeding is not too recommended unless u have got all e proper tools.

bearing in mind brake fluid is corrosive to plastic and paintwork. got to clean the affected parts (if kena spill) asap to prevent leaving behind ugly marks.

the screws on my brake fluid reservoir are ultra tight, couldnt unscrew them at all when i attempted to DIY front brake pad change previously. so if u do have intend to DIY bleed brakes, be suer that u are able to loosen all the relevant screws 1st. if get stuck 1/2way into the DIY session cause unable to loosen screw = lost form! :cheeky:

the 'drum' u describe is actually part of the brake pump (kit). spraying WD40 onto that area is definitely not going to help in the issue u are facing. the mechanic is probably just trying to wayang for u to see that u really need to change brake pump kit. :cheeky:

wow thats quite some knowledge. Im looking to do the minimal maintenance only, but i was told such stuff, which made me confused. Certainly the rubber vs steel hose stuff is valid, i believe this is secondary.

I am confused why they arent providing fluid change service instead suggest the entire brake pump kit change.

since i have this prob, do i really need to change? or bleed then replenish brake fluid will do? its not cheap as they quote. i'll be visiting others soon, for quotation.

btw, top up brake fluid is monthly affair, and bleed and replenish is a yearly affair? correct me if wrong.

i cant be sure how much do the shops quote for flushing or replacement of brake fluid. if it is going to cost smth like $20, then i reckon u might as well do the brake pump kit replacement together with it & hope they charge u lesser as a package (pump kit replacement and change brake fluid at same time).

brake fluid doesnt get consumed like petrol. as long as the brake system is not contaminated by water or air, then the brake fluid should be able to last u a good 1-2years or even longer. for my case, i changed to steel brakehose not long after i bought the bike 2nd hand. knew that the rubber brakehoses are old liao, so just whack steel brakehose since i intend to keep the bike for long. ever since, replaced brake pump kit once (mechanic re-used the brake fluid) and that's it liao. been ard 3yrs already.

:cheeky:

if u intend to keep yr cbr for long, maybe can consider taking up the shop's recommendation to change to stainless steel brakehose. whether need to get branded type like HEL or not, it's up to u to decide. now that i rethink abt it, old brakehose may contribute a part in the issue instead of pump kit. :)

wat the..???!!

change the brake pump kit = when a brake pump is leaking or jammed,

then it is serviced by changing the brake pump kit.

want to flame people, but............... ??

i just got a cbr150 for my fiance, and i'm having concern about the front brake as well.

tought about asking u guys here,

but it seems that someone gets really hostile whenever people mention about brake problems or about improving the brakes.

no la nooooooooo la .... relaaaaaaaax la.... nobody want to flame you... don't be so sensitive like girl, ok bradder? Chill.... sorry if my words burn you. Cos alot of fly by night people la in this thread, whoaaa i want to improve my bike zhng until it can fly into the sky and win all those SP and KR!! haha you know what i mean? :deal:

You know what they say, no joke no fun!! No mother no son!!

okok anyway.... so you concern about the brake leaking.... there's one easy way to check.... when you park your bike overnight you observe any leak on the ground the next morning.... see where the area of leak is. The front brake fluid reservoir is at the handlebars there so if that leaks, it usually flows down the brake cable housing, so you can visual inspect if the cable is oily or not on the outside.... and it should not be...

Same goes for the rear brake reservoir located on left or right side (i think right... forgot), observe any leaks on the ground there.... it might leak onto he fairing base also so take note...

Posted

Personally i've been using stock brakes since day one.... just change brake pads, top up brake fluid reservoir and your fiancee will be fine....

Ok bradder!!?? No hard feelings ah... if still have PM me, we meet up over a cup of kopi ok?

i dont see where the flaming is. where's the sensitive comment?
