of cox.... can keep my hands soft and smooth... prevent the area betwwen the palm and fingers from having hard and rough skin developing due to throttle...

Heheh, that's actually one of the reasons I wear gloves. Even with gloves, I've got corns and tons of dead skin; without lagi worse. Nothing wrong with rough hands, but why not avoid if possible, especially if it also increases safety :cheeky:

Eh? Raining conditions lagi dangerous what, heheh  I find that actually, leather can tahan getting wet quite well - the key is to dry them quickly to avoid it getting smelly. I've found that having aircon blow on it is best.

True, wet surface are more dangerous. But also means lesser friction to my hands while throttling or clutching. Anyway, trust my own hand's grip compare to gloves which might have a chance of slipping and plus wet gloves = troublesome.

Hi Guys,

It is interesting that people can spent ton of money on protecting the bike from fall and theft but forgetting about themselve as a rider who need more protection, then the bike~ where bike is replaceable...

Now a days the trend is infact catching up for riders to wear armour/padded riding jackets and gloves locally.

But still there are people riding with shorts, singlets and slippers on expressways! phew!!! I see them!!...... like looking at fools on a bike!!

i guess it depends on where you are going..

for example, going to play soccer...you will most probably be wearing shorts & a jersey to play..

of course, you can bring there & change lah..but some places like east coast park..toilets are not easily accessible...

Don't mess with old farts. Age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill.

Bullshit and brilliance only come with age and experience.

Both of you have your point. I strongly agree on rider protection but depends on occasion.

Guys, I'm sure you'll agree that danger/risk does not lessen on inconvenient occasions. Like many other things in life, often it's during just that one time lah that bad things happen. So isn't it back to a paraphrasing of the same question - is it worth the effort to find a way around destinations with inaccessible toilets for the sake of your safety? Even heading to East Coast McDonald's first to change before riding down to the spot you want to go on East Coast Park is still safer than spending your entire journey in shorts and slippers. If you ride a sports bike with no box, there are always back packs, tank bags or throwover panniers to store the gear you need to change into.

Well, I guess that depends on individual's effort in carrying out their own safety. :cheeky:

Of course being safe at all times. But sometimes it just take quite a hassle to carry your gear around or to find a safe place to lock it where you might not feel comfortable locking it there and maybe cant do things the way you want it as you keep worrying. But I definately agree that wearing shorts & slippers are no no.

Well, minimum I think a pair of glove is good enough. Had a friend who had lots of stiches on both hands, almost look like Frankenstein where almost whole hand covered with stiches. :giddy:

I always wear an armoured riding jacket so no two-tone, but having an even skin colour isn't necessarily a good thing - mine's an unhealthy pale colour, haiz :faint: I'd rather have a tan line if it didn't compromise safety.

The other day I saw a Ah Pek riding a phantom wearing a white cloth type gloves (those $1 gloves used in driving centres), don't know why he wears such useless glove.

He was wearing slippers and shorts too

Such people how to educate :weep:

It doesn't make any difference whether a motorcyclist has the right-of-way or not, the rider is the one most likely to get hurt.

$100 can get u a good pair of gloves.

But beware that some are overpriced.

U need to do some shopping an trying on.

As long as u feel comfortable and feel that the pair of gloves can give u a resonable level of protection when u fall, then go for it.

I am getting my 2B licence soon (lesson 7 tomorrow). I will always wear gloves when riding as my work involves a lot of computer work and I would not be able to work without my hands so I need to protect them. I know that gloves will not protect me from fractures but to avoid the pain of severe grazing to the skin and the possibility of needing skin grafts is enough to make me want to wear gloves, even if they are relatively cheap ones

That's the perfect advice - I couldn't put it any better. Brand names, unfortunately, are no guarantee of quality when it comes to gloves. alpinestars glove quality, in particular, doesn't justify the premium pricing, though many gloves in the alpinestars range are comfortably within your budget.
