Actually, i had no driving experience but recently the need for me to get myself a transport is becoming a must. Car is too expensive for me to own so I was thinking about motorcycle. But, the problem is, i am that kind of small size girls with height only 158cm and weight only 42kg. Furthermore, i am not good with bicycle also. Haha.. What do you all think? Am i suitable to learn motorcycle? And does knowing how to ride a bicycle really help in riding a motorcycle? :giddy:

While learning at the centre, I had classmates who are of the same stature as you. Best of all, they graduated from the centre with the coveted 2B license! :D

As for whether knowing how to ride a bicycle will help in your 2B lessons... I personally feel that it does. For me, I made sure I know how to ride a bicycle relatively well before I embarked on obtaining my licence. I did several long cycling trips around Singapore. It certainly aided me in balancing.

However, a motorcycle is totally different as compared to a bicycle although the concept of balancing a 2-wheeler is the same. A motorcycle is so much heavier and the control is different too.

Fret not! Learning a motorcycle doesn't require you to be ala Tour De France participant! So long as you know how to balance a bicycle, I'm very sure you can make it!

I always go by this mantra, "When there's a will, there's a way! " :thumb:

Good luck on embarking on your 2-wheel journey!

Biking is something that everyone can learn and enjoy! :goodluck:

There are people who leant bike without knowing how to ride a bicycle. However, from my personal experience, I guess it'll be a plus point if you know how to ride 1!

Next, I guess height and weight doesn't matter much while riding a bike. There are bikes which have lower seats and meant for girls.

Lastly, as long as you don't give up, you'll get your license eventually! Good luck!

1. Hi there, why do you need transport so badly? If it is for commuting long distance to work, maybe can consider getting a class 3A and a small cc weekend car. It is much safer, and more convient if it rains.

2. Getting the 2B license can be done, as long as your leg long enough to touch the ground. Women legs are longer in proportion to the body when compared to men, so 158cm should still be ok.

If you want it bad enough,

YOU CAN DO IT! :box:

3. Knowing how to ride a bicycle does help in the balancing, but not necessary, I have a friend whose father rides to work on his kup for over 20 years, but until today he still cannot cycle... :sian:

4. By the way if you are 158cm & 42kg, you should be quite a cute looking girl. :shy: .

Hmm.... your logic sounds flawed to me bro...

If the car is for work, then why buy a weekend car?? Defeats the purpose, no??

Anyway, threadstarter already said a car is beyond her means.

Can be that job requires traveling to very Ulu place very early....

Eg: Tuas or shipyard by 6:30am.

Other than that, if need to travel during the day, like during work 9am-5pm then no help lor.

That's why, first sentence is to ask why need transport mah.

Doctor prescribe medicine also must know the whole situation one mah. Even if it's a Buaya Doctor!

Weekend car much much cheaper, just a thought, in case the thread starter has not consider that option yet.

I guess that anything that you do not know will be hard in the first place, but when you get the hang of it, it'll not be difficult at all, it's all a matter of getting used to things.

When I was taking my 2A @ BBDC, I've seen girls around your size on Class 2 lessons there, and I was thinking to myself, "I'm already struggling with the Super 4 and those girls can control a CB750 with no problem at all". So no problem at all. If you really want to attain a Class 2B license, you'll definitely be able to do it!

Regarding the weekend car thing, I guess if your job requires you to reach before 7am, and maybe leave after 7pm, it'll be a really good thing. Like for SAF Regulars you know. But if that's not the case, in my opinion, getting a weekend car for the sake of having a car is really a waste of money. You're still paying so much, but can only drive during certain time slots. Not to forget that things such as petrol, parking, ERP, etc, are all damn expensive as well.

Unless you're really rich or your if work dictates that you need a car, I feel that a car is really a luxury item. The only bad thing about riding is when it rains, and that "you're covering the metal, instead of metal covering you". But if you ride safe, it will lower the probability of accidents by a hell lot.

Thanks so much for all your replies. :)

A weekend car will be a good idea if it is affordable, but it is not. Ha!

I need to reach my work place by 7am in the morning, but the 1st bus or MRT only available from 6.10am during weekends and PH. As the distance from my home to workplace is long(TPY to Simei), I will definately be late. Motorcycle seems to be the easiest way to solve the problem. Alot of my friends warn me of the danger also, but that is not my main concern, i more concern about not able to pick up the motorcycle if it fall. Ha!

Can anyone advise me what should I do to get myself started? I know learning to drive a car can take the Theory first and then those practical later. Is it the same to Motorcycle? I really have no idea how to start.

Btw, what is Buaya?

You would need to enrol at any driving centre 1st. On enrolment, they would check you eyesight and stuff like that. Remember to bring your IC and also some money for registration (NETS will do). Since you stay in TPY, i have no idea whether Bukit Batok DC or CDC (Ubi) is nearer to you.

After enrolment, you can book for your practical lessons already. Just make sure you settle your Riding Theory Test (RTT) before going into lesson 5 which is an assessment lesson to see if you can go on-road (outside road). You definitely can ask more questions here and we will gladly answer that.

As for your last question: what is buaya? It is something that lurks around waiting to catch its prey. Don't be his prey, stay away from him!! lol

for motorcycle, you just need to enroll and can start doing some lessons while you wait for your riding theory test.if you passed your theory test, you get to create your PDL which allows you to ride outside the school which is needed for some lessons...once complete all lessons, you just need to wait for the TP practical test. There's only 1 theory test for motorcycle...

Btw, what is Buaya?

Buaya,haha...it's a term we use for guys(buaya) who showed up when they see a girls(the prey)...haha...u shud get what i mean....

The Buaya is back again to answer your questions!

Staying at Toa Pa Yoh, the nearest will be either CDC (Ubi) or SSDC (Yio Chu Kang MRT)

And like the others said, on the day of registering you need to bring IC and some money, there will be an eye test for colour blindness and eye sight.

Test center at Ubi uses bike that look like Kups(Malaysian uncles bike that look like scooter) with crash bars, so they might be easier for a shorter person to handle, but Ubi traffic condition is heavy, so may be scary for first timer on the road, and thus more difficult to pass.

Test Center at SSDC uses sports bikes (looks like a honda NSR/CBR with farring removed), but the test route is easier, less traffic compared to CDC at Ubi.

(Took car license test at UBI test 3 times then pass, friend stayinga at Toa Pa Yoh go SSDC 1st time pass. My Bike License test at SSDC also 1st time pass... :sian: so you know the diffence lah.)

If possible, borrow a friends Kup and a 2B sports bike, don't start the engine, just sit on it to see if your leg can touch the ground before deciding where to take your license.

Theory and Practical is together, can do the theory lessons during lunch time online in your office, and still go for the pratical lessons in evening after work on the same day.

Lastly, a Buaya is a crocodile. (Buaya=Crocodile in the malay language)

When someone says I am a Buaya that means he or she means that I am a Chee Koh Pei (Hokkien) like a crocodile lurking in the muddy water and Beo-ing a mei mei with my 2 eyeballs sticking out from the muddy water, and like the crocodile, the the mei mei come to the river to get water the Buaya will open his mouth Big Big and gooble the mei mei up! (Yum Yum Yum!) :hungry:

Learning to balance is important.

My advice is to go learn how to balance a bicycle (in a park)before

taking any lessons on moto bikes.

U will have a few fall before being able to ride a bicycle.

It is ok. We all go thru that.

As the speed is low, u will get by with little or no injuries

with a pair of thick jeans, gloves & helmet.

Riding a Moto Cycle:

There are more things to co-ordinate.

Gear to change, clutch to engage...

And it is of higher speed - so u need to think faster.

:giddy:

The training ctr will train u & certify u ready for our roads.

They won't pass you if you are not ready.

Bike Fit

Getting a Bike that fits u is important.

And I am sure there will be a few.

Just be sure u are comfortable with it.

Higher Risk

Just like to point out that the price of falling onto our roads

is very high.

We run the risk of being run over by vehicles.

So go see if u are able to handle a bicycle well.

If u still have problems.. My advise it to stick to public transport.

In the mean time... look for a job that's nearer to home.

:p

SSDC uses the Honda CG125, some of them have seats in blue, indicating it is designed for people who are shorter. I noe BBDC dun have this, not sure bout CDC..

Between SSDC and CDC.. i would go with SSDC. Bigger circuit, better test route..

This is one neat advice! Thanks!

I do know how to ride a bicycle, i am not good at turning though. I guess I really need to master the bicycle before i can advance to higher speed motorcycle. =) I really appreciate that help.

But as to getting a job that is nearer to home is an impossible for me, cause i am bonded to the hospital i work in. (i am a nurse. Ha!) i do always see people coming in due to road traffic accidents and most of them are motorcyclist. i am well aware of the risk but i really can't think of other ways beside taking up driving.
