I think 2 categories are enough; 400cc. A 400cc 4-cylinder bike like the CB400 Super 4 lets you get a feel of 'big' bike handling and response without the crazy power.

125cc singles just don't prepare you for operating 'real' bikes. I was riding like a total noob during my first Class 2A lesson.

I think 2 classes is enough actually, 2B then 2. Skip the 2A. So 2B will still be up to 200cc. This is just to get fundamentals right, like control and stuff. But for 2A and 2, I think we can just fuse them into 1, because there's not much difference in my opinion, the handling is almost practically the same.

400cc for 2a is a little redundant here.. 400cc bikes are so limited..

still stick to 3 tier but increase the cc of the bike?

2b not exceeding 250cc

2a not exceeding 600cc

2 more than 600cc.

i also agreed that we don need 3 classes of licence .. 2 would be idea like below 200 and 200 and above ..

i think the main reason why we need 3 might be due to the age factor .. that too young is not safe to ride big bikes due to mentality .. but the cost of taking the same licence really quite high ..

making it more diffcult also makes getting bigger cc licence more prestige .. like ppl would be like wao you got a bigger class licence

I think 2 classes is enough. And stretch the 2b to 250cc please. At least there's a bit more option for purchase.

Actually, there's a flaw in the system. As we use 1 year waiting time, not riding time, someone can just take a 2b licence when he's 18 and progressively takes the licences up till class 2 without much riding experience. In a way, he has less road experience and having so much power, he may not be street wise to know the traffic condition here. Seriously, as a rider and cyclist myself, the traffic condition here is kinda merciless.

Everyone is so much in a rush, they don't really check blindspots (both drivers and riders) and many occasion I almost got knocked down and thankfully I survived one collision coz a pick up truck didn't bother to check my lane properly before making his turn. I did my part by sticking to speed limits and all.

With this variable (traffic condition and mentality of road users), how can we say that many class system is effective? Maybe Japan has a low accident rate coz they are more civic minded? We cannot just see statistics as it is, if you did any assignments in school, by reading journals and papers, they do mention the variables and limitations affecting the results of the findings.

i heard this from a friend from the UK and not sure if it's true

but if you're above a certain age (supposed maturity level) and taking your bike license from scratch, you can opt to do all the classes one after another but of course will be more expensive as you have to continue taking lessons.

that could be an option here too?

say above 25 or whatever the local statistics state that the highest bike risk group is.

what do you guys think of that?

coz if you are above a certain age you'd definitly be more in control as well as having more spending power for lessons and of course what we all aim for --> the big bike

presuming if it's above 25, you'd possible have a family or at least on the way so hopefully less reckless?

coz my personal feel is that (btw i am a 32 yr old p-plater as i didn't have time to get my 2b till last year due to overseas work experience) at my age with a family now,

1. i hardly speed too much - the usual +10 of speed limit max

2. if i'm late, i'm going to be late still no matter how fast or recklessly i go

3. if i have to lane split to keep moving during heavy traffic situations, i feel i do it safely still and at reasonable speeds, and following distance from other splitters

4. i have that little more spending power for proper riding gear

the list can go on... but you guys see what i'm saying?

if they do allow it above a certain age then at least for the "older" guys we don't have to go through the one year wait in between

and if you want to get your 2b at 18 years, by all means but the present system should stay

Grounded... :/

IMO, 2 classes is sufficient. The capacity limit on the first class is debatable, though I would say Beginner Class should be up to 250cc, and Advanced Class (one year later) is above 250cc.

I am also a supporter of the system whereby you get tested on the bike you are purchasing. Therefore, you take your class license WITH the bike you purchased, and thus this is an actual test of your ability to handle your bike in the future on the roads.

I am also a supporter of 4-stroke bikes, so as to reduce the emission/smoke coming out of 2-stroke bikes. No offence meant, just my humble opinion that it feels suffocating riding behind a 2-stroke bike with the heavy amount of smoke coming out.
