does being an instructor still give one the excitement and satisfaction of flying but without the operational hours (odd days, weekends, holidays) if one was a commercial pilot?

so a progression for instructors is to achieve type rating and instruct cadets on this rating? are they allowed to switch to commercial piloting given the hours you have instructing?

effee good luck and ure getting a dream education :D

instructing is bad for health... trust me.. i know... it boring, caderts trying to kill you... just bad..

Hi there

I am contemplating joing elite flying as a base for trying out flying and if possible, any future prospects in flying. I understand elite is located at senai airport. Anyone can guide me on how can i get to elite/senai by the following mode of transport:

1. Bike

2. Bus

It would be great if anyone who knows how to get there can describe to me in details how to reach Elite with either bus and bike. Thanks!

There are actually a number of bus services that ply from Singapore to Johor Bahru (Senai) International airport, stopover or without.

1. I know AirAsia Airlines has a bus service that takes Singaporeans to Senai, but I'm not sure whether you have to be an AirAisa ticketed passenger to do so.

2. You could go to Golden Mile Complex at Beach road (just opposite Army Market) and enquire with the coach transport ticket sellers there. That place is full of tour bus companies.

3. An alternative would be the Handal Indah Ceria (commonly known as the Smiling Bus, or the Yellow Bus). One possible scenario is that you can take their buses to their Johor bus stations, then a connecting bus to Senai airport. These buses begin their journey from Kranji or Jurong East MRT station -- maybe you could go to these places and direct your enquiries to the ticket sellers there?

By bike or other means of personal transport:

From Second Link:

(Easier and less stops)

[1] Once you cross over, remain on the Second Link Highway (also called "Linke Dua", or "E3").

[2] Take Exit 304, which will take you Eastward on to the Senai Industrial areas

[3] The highway will eventually end and a huge T junction will appear. Turn left once you see it. You will end up on "Jalan Lapangan Terbang" Road. Airport is just straight ahead

From First Link:

(not entirely highway, lots of traffic lights on this journey)

[1] Once you cross over (bike), take "Jalan Wong Ah Fook" -- the road that leads to the Shell station, that's where the popular flyovers (and roundabout to SG) is as well.

[2] At that flyover forked road, filter left into Highway "1" (Lebuhraya Skudai). This road will lead you to the abovementioned Senai Industrial Estate. It's a long journey from here and be sure to follow the obvious airport signs. They're printed and it's quite obvious.

[3] Once at the Senai Industrial Estate, make a right turn into Jalan Lapangan Terbang. A railroad crosses this junction as well so you can't miss that turn.

[4] Carry on straight for some metres. Airport up front.

Just a passing thought; even if i take and pass/obtain a commercial pilot license, I still cant fly jets? (i believe its called a 'type rating')

So the only way to fly 737, 747 etc. is ONLY IF an airline accepts me and i train with their aircraft?

Retro is right.

Mind you...PPL gets you certified for propellor-type aircrafts (that's what I learnt). If you wanna fly the heavies (737, 747), you gotta start small, or get some lobang. Just think:

PPL:

light, propelled GA (Beech, Cessna), ok.

CPL:

Same 2 pax GA,

Multi-pax turboprops...

(correct me if i'm wrong here, that's to my knowledge)

When you fancy an upgrade to a turbojet:

Certification again...$$$

Fly Learjets, Citations, and any other Biz jets.

When that's not enough...ATP

Certification yet again..., now more stringent.

$$$ yet again

Gain hours in the air again...

Once ATP license is obtained, pray hope your application gets accepted by the Airline company to hire you. If not, cargo airline. If still not accepted, rack some more experience and hours on a small jet.

If all else fails, go to SIA and tell them you "wanna be a 747 pilot". If they like you, they take you in, groom you, and everything mentioned above is super-subsidised

Good luck :thumb:

My advice would be to try for SIA first, then if u fail at that hurdle, go thru the private way.

Getting the licences through private means might not prove as useful, or beneficial. I liken it to getting a long-distance or short-cut degree from any chapalang uni. At the end of the day, it might not get recognised and you would have wasted your money by then.

Yah he first time clear all.

My astig BEFORE lasik was above the guideline SIA set. Even though its now 0 and 0.25 (right and left eyes respectively), SIA still will not accept. My astig BEFORE lasik was 2.50 and 3.50... SIA requirement is

How i know? I called up Flight Ops and my bro also did find out the reasons for me. So, for those who has astig >2.0, dont bother doing lasik if u wanna become a pilot in SIA/Silkair.

But it is a good investment i would say, in terms of sports and riding a bike.

The raw power of a jet engine, heard.

The yellow equipment mirrors what the APU of an aircraft would do...one would be to assist in kick-starting of the engines.
