UPDATE on Fiancees helmet part 1

 

The rest of my project was ruined.

I didnt set the spray to maximum atomization.

i.e. the drops were too big...

 

any way one helmet project is finish...only left to clear coar the bugger...wonder any of you guys can guess the logo..

Thanks bro for the Info. Anyway, the clear 2k ur talking abt is it a brand or the label of the paint??...couldnt find it at my local DIY store and when i did ask the uncle, he oso giv me blur face. does nione know where to purchace it???...thanks again in Advance

 

2k clear comes in a 1L tin or 1/2L tin.

quite the same with all automotive paint.

When using airbrush or spray gun,

the atomization particle of the paint droplet are very small.

presurized air inside Spray cans cannot be adjusted unlike the air compressor for the spray gun/airbrush.

the links for the spray can paint are large, though it is possible to create a smoth surface, the paint will/can/may crack over time.

It is the same with automotive paint though the paint particles links are much more smaller, so if there is crack, it will almost be invisble to naked eye.

 

there you have it..the difference with aerosol spray paint and spray gun paint..

wah..i got post 3 kinds of flames here. you'd better refer which flame design you want to know hehe...

 

on the black helmet i free hand using a french curve which i cut out in a transparency sheet.

but both are very different flames. the 1st one was an unsucessful true fire. the other one is called a overlapping ghost flames.

the one on the blue helmet is a also a ghost flame abit to heavy on the colour with drop shaddows which gives the flame a 3D effect.

any way guys..i threw away the eagle scouts helmet liao... count take it as the stupid foam wouldnt come out.. and the rubber...

the pics below were given to the rider which coincidentally is taking out a CBR1000 repsol with the orange and black paintwork...

 

oh yah..1st when to sand the black with rubbing compound then clean it and let it dry which took 1 hour plus drying 3 hours..

after that prep work took 2 hours...

then spraying the orange took 10mins...

drying...1 hour...

then airbrushing the blend...1/2hour..

haha..preparing takes even longer than spraying the bloddy design... but 1st lets see the thrashed helmet...but nice paint work....being thrown away...

lets throw the helmets on the pavement..

oh yah..i already clear coat the helmet...but it had some runs..which could be sanded down...but i wanted to take out the the foam...which did not come out...after which i threw it away..

this flame design has a specific name to it...

just to name the flame designs i have knowledge on...

overlapping flames..

hot rod flames...

steel flame...

tube flame...

ghost flames..

emboss flames..

prinstripe flames...

tribal flames...(yes tribals designs are actually sub category of flames..)

and the most difficult and most impressive are..

true fire...(costly)

which very few airbrush artist locally and across the causeway can do...

 

flames are named with usually with the color 1st then the category which can be compined with another category...

 

decided to prank the owner which is a friend of mine...

told him i sent it to the shop.. as i couldnt do it....

then he got pissed of with me for 20 secs before i told him the truth...

 

 

i call this a hotrod overlapping flame...

if you look closely in the helmet...

me and the owner of the helmets sillohete are reflecting in the helmet at a some angles...

there is quite a difference i assure you. petrol wont eat much into the clear but definetely will eat in to lacquer. 1st hand experience. to much time on my hand on researching and experimenting.

 

NJH - i did my bike gold when i first got it. used normal spray paint. it was a beauty to my eyes i tell you. colour looks nicer than paint shop. Just like your matt black. Tell you the thruth, quality of your job is tip top. but the dowside of using spary paint is after some time it will crack. between 1 to 6 months. after that send to shop to spray liao. im still not sure the base coat crack or the lacquer. but just giving you heads up.

 

hope this TS doesnt mind i post my project here. attached are my 1st two attemps at airbrushing.

We've gone thru NS food..So I guess it won't be much of a problem to swallow your cookin.. But for those who have yet to experience it..It might make you realise how much you'll miss Mom's home cooked food..

anyone heard of no-air brush? its a airbrush gun not using air but using electricity to power it. i nv use before but saw it at thoe diy cum provision shop at beautyworld near shop and save. anyone use it before?

guess most of us are muslim here..

i will figure out the detail of the workshop and post it here..

about if there are any fees, i dont think its a good idea for me to charge any of you. but obviously if you want me to paint your cowling...then probably get to pay a small fee...

but if anyone feels obligated...can give me a pack ciggys each..hehe....just joking..
