Noticed the 1st tube from left not evenly 'rusted'. The other 3 seems to be heating up properly but the 1st tube seems not evenly rusted. Seems to me like it's the carb not properly tuned.

can, it will take u a lifetime to polish, after sometime it'll rust again.

get urself a high-temp spray, remove ur header to spray. no need to spray until your exhaust.

How much does a high temperature spray cost? Spray it to black? Just told the mech that u need a high temp spray and they will know? Can purchase in any bike shop?

With proper prep surface b4 a respray job with a Hi-temp paint should last easily 6-8 months at least (subjected to environment exposure to wetness)...and a year or more if the fine rust are converted to metal oxide. I have seen a Korean brand hi-temp primer before and may work better.

Anyway..may try this primer out one day on my XR pipe.

the shine will always be there. its the heat from the engine while travelling tat cause the dust and dirt to stick on and water to stain the header.

for mine, i didnt take care of my FS header as i didnt know how to maintain it until i got to learn about header polishing using Maguiar's Polish from Ah Pek.

to maintain the shine, once every fort night polishing should do the magic.

for my case, i spent 4 hours per header to get the "mirror" effect. till now, 2 headers out of 4 has been polished. 2 more to go. best time is to polish in the morning like 8 - 9 am. sunlight can show u where are the black spots so u can polish and remove them with polishing...

wana maintain ur stock or aftermarket stainless steel exhaust like brand new???

( paiseh, left with 2 headers haven polish la  )

Maguiar's All Metal Polysh does the magic which u can get from NTUC priced at $16.90 if i didnt get it wrong... :dot:

as stated on the can...

- highest shine possible

- anti-corrosive protection agents fight against enviromental attack and degradation

http://photos-765.friendster.com/e1/photos/56/70/15050765/1_948057109l.jpg

for initial polish, i spent 4 - 5 hours working on per header (yes, its 4 - 5 hrs per header) to get the "mirror" effect. best time is to polish in the morning like 8 - 9 am where sunlight can show u where are the black spots so u can remove them with polishing.

for those who like to try the polish, i've got something to share... when u start to polish the headers, normally its easy at the headers body, the center part. if u look higher at the bent connecting to the exhaust outlets, the bents have dark spots around the bent area which are caused by the heat. initial polishing seems tat it will not go off, but be patience and u'll see the black spots going off as u continue to polish and polish and polish...

apply an amount on a cloth and rub in a circular motion till u see the black black stuff on the cloth, real black, then use a bit more of the polish and continue to polish with the black black stuff... tats when the magic comes in, to remove the black spots...

Maguiar works best on all stainless steel and aluminium. if u guys notice, (see the above pic) my rims are already shining, polished with Maguiar.

after polishing, try using a bottle to pour water over the header, the water will jus flow away...

i agree this tin is small and ex... but the after-effect is worth it. maybe the pics cant tell much, when u see the after-effect with ur own eyes, u'll be happy that the 16++ dollars is worth spending... :thumb:

for maintaining the shine, once every fortnight (2weeks) polishing should do the magic. i'm still doing a case study for maintaining the shine... :dot:

Why not Autosol??? :nono:

Autosol is a compound with more rough substance giving u instant shine at the same time removing the protective layer without protecting, whereras Meguiars has got Anti Corrosive Protection and also fine substance in the compound giving u a longer lasting shine... :)

anyone with any things to ask and share, feel free to post in here! pics are best!

Cheers!!!
