by saying HD,

how often do u see goldwing involved in accident on sg roads.

how often do u see STX involved in accident on sg roads.

how often do u see ducati ST3 involved in accident on sg roads.

how often do u see BMW roadstar or GS involved in accident on sg roads.

IMHO:

coz they are class 2 bikes, require 2 years of riding experience, unlink 2B and 2A riders.

and they cant unleash their full potential, top speed on sg expressways, so most of them go slow and steady.

To add to it.....the number of bikes with that make on the road is very few......thus you wont see as much as seeing kupkias or rxz getting into one... just an example....no offence to kups and rxz riders...

My view to the subject;

1 - all HD is class 2 bikes means with at least 2yrs of riding experience

2 - most HD machine is slower compared to their jap, german or italian counterpart (means 'safer', I guess)

3 - some HD is just a weekend bike cum show bike instead of for daily transportation, unlike thier counterpart

4 - HD cant be ridden so often otherwise it may leaks in no time

5 - most HD fitted with illegal pipe, thus they prefer to stay home than risk being caught

6 - most HD rider wanna look macho in turtle helmet (otherwise kena laugh by their clan) but afraid of uncle sam (similar to point #5)

7 - handfull of HD owner need to settle monthly installment up to thier nose, means need to save as much on maintenance (refer point #4)

8 - HD culture is not to go public if there are slightest rain ('safety' reason la)

We take these risks is not to escape from life;

but to prevent life from escaping us

A serious answer to the original question.

1. As others have said, the apparent lesser number of HD-made bikes involved in accidents may simply be a function of fewer HDs on the roads of Singapore compared to bikes more frequently seen. I can't find stats anywhere to prove or disprove this.

2. Even if HDs are as prevalent as other makes (very doubtful due to Class 2 and cost factors) perhaps HDs don't get ridden as much, or as far, as other bikes. I know of only 2 other riders who like me ride their bikes to work every day - yes, including when it rains :) . Maybe we want to keep the chrome shiny, maybe we don't have confidence in the wet? Or overall maybe we don't have as much time to ride as we're working rather than studying...? Perhaps just a combo of all these factors in different proportions for different owners.

3. Every bike on the road in Singapore can go fast enough to kill.

4. Accidents involving head injuries tend to be nasty - orthopedic repairs and skin grafts are the consequences of insufficient gear south of the head, but a helmet insufficient to protect your head and face leaves you sucking liquid food thru a straw for weeks if you survive. Now purely from an anecdotal point of view, I see a smaller % of the HD riders on the road wearing full face helmets than I see sportbike riders doing so. I personally feel naked without a FFH - my open face helmets are gathering dust and I never bought a turtle or novelty helmet and I think this is a likely factor in injuries (but not of course in accidents) - others think differently. There are figures to show that wearing a FFH makes you no more likely to have an accident than wearing a 'novelty' helmet. But if you have an accident a FFH protects your head and face measurably better.

5. In addition to 1. and 2. , most of us who bought HDs have been riding for quite a few years and rode (and maybe crashed o_O ) a few bikes before. In many - not all - cases, HDs represent $$s that we have saved and have left over from the mortgage or the rent and the kids' college fund; we don't like wasting those bucks and we sure don't want to spend on repairs we don't have to. it's not that we're smarter - one doesn't necessarily get smarter as one gets older - but as one gets older one does get a more realistic appreciation of the potential for and consequences of one's and others' mistakes, especially those mistakes involving speed, immovable roadside objects, slippery surfaces and intransigent and unpredictable cage drivers. So, possibly - only possibly - older HD riders ride more slowly and take fewer risks than the average sportsbike rider: but that is not a contention we can prove, and there'd be quite a few exceptions (you know who you are :) ).

6. Above all, it's not the bike that crashes, it's the rider. Let's remember that and let's be careful out there whatever brand we favor!!

Want to know the answer very simple

First ask yourself. 'Why you are more likely to die in SG being struck by a coconut than being bitten to death by a great white shark.

Then ask yourself 'How many HD are there in SG?'

And then you will see the light. Kee Kee! :lol:
