Hi, I'm done with my 1 year 2B probation period, tried riding a Fazer 150 and owned an RX-Z before, I'm thinking of renting a bike, is it recommended to try a sports bike especially for a newbie rider?

It's all a matter of getting used to the riding posture.

Safety is more related to your riding style and safety awareness than to the bike itself

Hi ppl, I'm looking for a 2B bike with big petrol tank (or high mileage/tank) and clutchless/auto.

Seems to me all the cubs/scooters have 3-5L tanks, at most 150-200km/tank. My mileage quite high don't want to keep visiting the petrol station.

Best is one tank 400-500km and preferably clutchless.

Considered the YBR/CBF with 13L tanks, but all these are clutch design only.

Thanks for any recommendations.

Hi all, new member here, currently taking my class 2b license now.

While it's still early to consider buying my first bike, I would appreciate some advice on my prospective bike choice.

Just a short background of myself and why I decided to embark on this riding path.

I'm 28yo, fairly big size, at 1.78m and 80+kg (trying to slim back to 70+ but that's not relevant here)

I stay in the East, but works in the west and while the public transport is decent when it doesn't breakdown, it's still 2hrs to and 2hrs fro everyday. So I'm getting a bike for the purpose of mostly commuting (cruising down the PIE for the most part). I may consider going into Johor with it when I decide that I have enough guts to do it.

So... considerations for the bike. Obviously FC is very important as I will be commuting long distance. I have not much requirements on speed but I do not want a powerless bike that struggles at PIE cruising speeds (80-90, and the occasional 100). I love the looks of sports bike like the Honda CBR series but after much thought, I still feel that naked or street bikes suits me better. NS tormented my back back in the days and I would prefer to have a comfortable riding position. Will also be considering to pillion my gf (petite size) when I'm confident of my skills. Not looking to upgrade to 2A and above.

Budget-wise, all I can say is that I can comfortably afford any brand new 2b bike with all payment upfront including current COE prices without loan. But of course, it's still better to be financially prudent. Bikes like KTM 200 duke is not within my consideration.

I tried researching online and talking to that handful of friends who ride, but I'm still blur about some things.

Given my riding needs (and my weight), do I need to go to higher cc like at least 150 to the max 200cc? I'm worried that small bikes like YBR125 is not powerful enough for expressway and long distance. Or am I mis-informed?

I'm also considering scooters like the Gilera Runner 200 and SYM Joyride 200, but again, are they good enough for me to get to work decently fast? What about the FC, since they are heavier and have smaller wheels? I do appreciate the ample storage spaces thou, if I'm getting a naked bike instead, a box is must.

I can consider 2nd hand too, and I've heard good things about the phantom. But, now in 2016, it's really not a good idea to get a n-th hand phantom right?

In general, I want to look for a bike that (in order of decreasing priority)

Has good fuel economy as well as capacity (so not really that keen on cubs)

decent enough cruising speed and stability (80-100) without pushing the engine too much

Comfortable for long rides (and maybe with pillion) and suits my large frame.

As cheap as possible, both upfront costs and maintenance (although I know, cheap and good don't come together)

Doesn't look too ugly (it's subjective) with rear box.

And ideas?

Lastly, any recommended dealers/shops where I can just go there look see look see no pressure?

Thanks in advance!

Do consider Gilera ST200 or any other bigger 200cc scooters!

FZ16. Doesn't look bad with box, huge tank capacity, quite good fuel consumption. Most 150cc bikes can cruise comfortably at 90-100. Price wise, prepare at least 7K for a 2nd hand one

Hi all,

I'm currently learning by Class 2B license and I'm thinking of getting a 2nd hand bike.

Sachs MadAss 125

Daelim B-Bone 125

Any comment on the 2 bikes that I've listed and roughtly how much will it be for a 2 to 3 yrs old bike?

Btw, my height is about 1.8M.

Did you eventually settle on Madass or B-bone?

Hi, can you recommend a used bike around budget $3-4k (if under 3k better), for daily commuting about 15km go and back to work, can ride for at least 2-3 years.

My budget not so high I hope can cover all road tax + insurance under $4k?

Thank you

I'm getting my 2B soon, and I'm in the market for a street bike. I was originally very into getting a cub, but I'm slowly getting the feeling that I don't want something that light. I prefer the heft of a street bike. With that in mind, I'm looking for some recommendations!

Based on my research, I have come up with these bikes that are available for 2B license holders:

- Bajaj Pulsar series

- Yamaha FZ16, or the successor FZ150 with fuel injection

- Honda CBF150

- Yamaha YBR125

My main criterias are:

- fuel efficient (at least average above 35kmpl)

- cheap parts should any parts break down

I'm not looking for something super fast, but fast acceleration would be a plus to get out of sticky situations. Top speed is not an issue as long as it's at least 90km/h. Manual or not doesn't matter.

Based on my criteria, it seems the Pulsar and FZ150 are out. The Pulsar has insane fuel efficiency, but is apparently expensive to repair, especially since there's only 1 official dealer. The FZ150 uses fuel injectors, which I understand to be very costly to replace should there be a problem (getting mixed information on this: would love to be proven wrong. The FZN150 looks pretty good).

Any thoughts? Looking to have the bike last until at least mid-2021 (when I graduate from uni). Budget is about $6-$7k without insurance.

Would also like some advice on COE. A part of me is considering getting a 1st hand bike as I expect the COE to keep rising, unless they stem the flow of bike COEs entering the open category.

At your budget, you're generally restricted to cubs. I did a quick search for Yamaha YBR125 and Honda CBF150 (two of the cheaper, no-frills, low-maintenance and fuel-efficient commuter street bikes on the 2B market) you generally need to top up a little more. HOWEVER! There's a guy selling his CBF150 for $2850 at http://www.sgbikez.com/b/cbf-150-coe-till-2019-good-condition/. Can try to check it out.

Hi all, currently taking 2b license now, and i need some advice about Suzuki GN125.

Im not looking for speed, just wanted to use it for transport and at the same time wanna make it look more like a custom tracker look. Is it a good bike in terms of beginners, maintenance, spare parts and all?

Please give me the pros and cons about the bike and also where i can find one. Thanks in advance!

Good info! Thanks and hope to see more of your posts!

Just to add, you missed out "cruisers" for the different types of bikes.
