I am sure many of you have experienced almost blinded by glaring sunlight when riding sometimes. I myself have had my eyes forced shut for a couple of frightening times due to extremely strong sunlight. As all of you guys know, drivers have advantage over riders in terms of protection from glaring sunlight. they can tint a good portion of their windows or put on and take off sunglasses conveniently. So I would like bros here to share on how u guys handle this problem? (other than using illegal tinted visors and sunglasses cos sometimes sunglasses are inconvenient when riding into dark/shady areas) thanks for any contribution :thumb:

hmm.. ya. maybe tinted sunglasses works. cos mine is those oakley lor.. guess a bit darker. visors that are clear are worse, but visors that are tinted/shaded are not allowed. although visors tinted to a certain percentage are allowed, but guess not dark enough or never know when get pulled over by tp and booked for a visor that failed their test.

oakley has transition lens to change color when it gets dark.

like kish said, some helmets has vision protector, that's additional dark visor, plus normal clear visor. so there shouldnt be any problem with tp.

here are some pics i can find. visit Regina for different helmets available.

One solution could be double-visor helmets. The idea is borowed from fighter-pilot helmets. The outer visor is clear. The inner visor is shaded. This way, you can lower or raise the shaded visor without needing to stop as and when according to the direction of the glare.

Carberg flip-up helmet from Germany. It is a flip-up design which also has a inner shaded visor.

Shaded visor lowered.

Looks good on girls too.

I bought mine from Regina, the main street in front of Lim Ah Boy.

Yes, it's one of the cheapest around and yet high quality. The newer version of flip up+pilot visor from Carberg is called Rhyno and sells at 450.

I am happy with the helmet and will think of buying a second one.

Be careful of when selecting the Caberg helmet as several people have bought and got problem with the fit after that. I suggest don't buy too tight for Caberg helmet.

I am not sure if the inner visor will hit the spectacles. Go try out yourself and see.

Darker does not mean u get better protection against the glaring sun. If the visor has no UV protection rating, it will cause more harm to your eye than to protect.

Reason being - Your pupil will enlarge when it senses the surrounding is dark, thus with no proper UV protection, u are actually exposing your eye to more harmful UV rays.

Thus I would recommend to get proper sunglasses or visors with UV protection than getting something cheap tinted visors with no UV protection.

Juz my 0.000000002 cents.

i've adapted something from the cars in singapore....

i'v bought myself a rectangle sticker thats around 15cm in length and 2.5cm in breadth... aimed a good spot, right in the centre of my helmet visor...

and pasted it on my visor..... just like those used in cars to screen away the sun...

ideally, it should look like this... http://www.harrisdecals.com/graphic/siteart/gunnerhelmetlarge.jpg

btw this only prevents the sun from getting into your eye directly.. you'll be hiding under the sticker's shadow... but if the glare is coming from the tarmac or anywhere else... you're out of luck with this method..

my 2 cents.

but we only blocking the top part of our visor shdnt be a problem rite?

guess it boils down to how much is left clear... think there should be a spec stating the minimum clear vision area for helmets. otherwise pp start wearing helmets with just a small slit for vision, then we have lots of robocops on the road liow :cheeky:

.......

yeah... that is something i didnt mention in my prev post...

anyway, my helmet is already non psb approved... so i chose this cheapo option.... visually it looks good... and it serves it functions very well....

but i've always felt, if uncle sam bother to stop you and chat, you better get ready to pay 'chatting' fees...cos IMO, whatever they wanna fine you.... is really out of your control.... (e.g. PSB approved helmet issue or simply changing lane without signalling... oh well  )

cheers!
