There has been few answers in the forum about oil changes. Would appreciate if you can help me to identify on other service requirements..

How often (mileage) we should change/replace the following..

Change of spark plugs:

Sparks can last up to 20,000km depending on use. Mostly people change every 2 engine oil changes. Which is abiout 14,000km

Change of Engine coolant:

Coolant at least once a year ok liao. Just gotta top up and often check for leaks.

Change of chain and sprockets:

No fixed timing. Mostly depending on how well u take care of it or warping or kinking is not reversible.

Change of fork oil:

Depending if there is a need for it lah. Maybe u need thicker oil or when the fork seals got punctured.

Change of brake oil:

Once a year is a good idea. Do bleed the brakes proper. If u dun have experience on this, go to a reputable mech and see how it gets done.

Thanks much..

Agreed, this is the cheapest way to increase acceleration. Change rear sprocket to 49teeth..

But muz also include the part where the chain cannot take the strain heheh. So need money to change chains often.

Ya lor....2 stroke takes 2 cycle to burn fuel...while 4 strokes takes 4 cycle. Got many many difference. If you really wanna mod this GSR to super pickup, be prepare to spend a lot. Everything is possible.

guys,

take care on the mersing trip. i just got back from a sad trip to melaka yesterday. and because of that trip, i'm giving up touring up north.

to those inexperienced: do sound off if you don't know anything. make sure those guys who are more experienced do a proper briefing and make sure you're in the front pack, instead of the back. i understand you guys are going through trunk roads. do take note, malaysian vehicles will overtake you even though it's a parallel white lined road. how do i know? cos my father in law is a malaysian and once we went on a road trip from JB to pahang. and on the super highways, stay clear of speeding buses. overtaking them is not easy too.

to those experienced: make sure you guys guide the inexperienced. dont leave them behind. make sure the last bike is the one of the most experienced. maintain contact with the 1st bike with walkie talkies or handphones with auto-roaming of course.

and to all, malaysian vehicles tend to overtake rather dangerously so if they're overtaking you, you jolly well give way to them. for one, you're riding a bike. and another, you're in foreign ground. whatever it is, just swallow it and carry on. dont anyhow point finger, flash your high beam at them or blast your horns. you're just inviting trouble. and also, you guys may be in a big group and might have thoughts of trying to confront them. one advice: DON'T. You'll be digging your own grave if you're doing that.

have a safe trip and happy 2009.

Hey guys

Points to check on the bike

The plastic portion of the chain guard. Please look out for cracks and tear. Mine seems to have cracked. It just right at your left foot rest there. Lift the chain up and you will see the plastic thing. Take note.

Like to add what EJ had said. It is now the monsoon season, be wary of the wind and the road condition. For newbie : it is unlikely that you will get lost as it is one road leading to mersing just take note of the road marking (Little stone with kilometres mark) so don't get anxious when you cannot keep up. No matter how fast your peers is moving you are only minutes away from them.

anyway, i miss wildcard.

What happened bro? Care to share what's the sad trip? we experience different scenerios everytime we go up north ... every trip will never be the same, even if you are heading the same road and same destination ... Dun let a bad trip destroy your touring spirit...

Your pointers are really invaluable to all who want to go up north... as bikers, we should never ever challange cars... even if you may think you will win them ... always keep in mind that we are vulnerable to many hazards... so ride safely and cautiously and live to ride again and again and again!

As for novice riders who go on group tour, always let the organiser know and if possible, keep in the middle of the pack... dun feel pai seh to let others know if you experience some problem with your bike(some might feel shy to let others know becos they scare of delaying others...). Also, it will be great for organiser to pair experience rider with novice rider as buddy buddy system. Most importantly, do not go touring if you are not prepared(not feeling well) or your bike is not prepared(have not gone through neccessary checks) for it...

Anyway... I'm planning to go Kulai for Nasi Lemak somewhere again this month... maybe end of the month. Will be planning for one day trip to Melaka or KL somewhere around Feb... hope to have you guys joining me... more fun!

Cheers!

melaka day trip will be ok. make a stop at machap, fill up (you might want to if you're blasting all the way) then continue your way to ayer keroh exit.

KL, still can if you have the iron butt. i know someone who rode to Genting highlands and back to singapore within a day.

as for the sad trip, lets just say the malaysian super highway took his life away. the highway is indeed safe, but like what swoosh said, its the weather which will make it unsafe. i took off from tangkak back to singapore at about 6pm and it started to rain. fortunately the rain isnt that heavy but i could still feel my bike reacting to the strong winds. even with a 180kg bike, 2 fully loaded 40L side panniers and my wife, i fought hard to control the bike.

Nope, if going to KL.. the trip will start ard 4am ... est to reach KL before noon, so we have ample time to stop and rest and refill... wun be too taxing to your bike and our bikes. I dun like to rush ... rush to reach destination.... just enjoy the ride and morning scenery. :) Will rest and relax at KL till night market opens ... then will take our own sweet time to head back to Singapore... reach Gp past midnight, have supper before heading home to sleep. All these = 24hrs = 1 day :D

As for iron butt ...haha ... I have been to Cameron highland with my top speed 120km/h Honda Phantom before, I know how painful it is for our butt. It's like endurance run man...

Anyway, let's focus on Melaka trip first ... I will come up with the plan next week and post it up for those who are interested to join.

My friend ... you have a good wife. It's daunting to see tragic things happen around us... she is worried for you ... let ur mind rest for awhile... ultimately, the decision to go on touring or not, it rest in you and your wife decision. Maybe someday, you will join us with a car instead of bike, acting as our safety vehicle. :)

my bro ej, i feel u too bro.. my fiancee also scared scared if i wanna go. hell i also got badi2 too.

as for ur sadness.. we'll share it with u bro..

yoz farhan.. betul tak betul?(u sure or not) ur statement dosen't sound convincing after i drag mine e previous tyme. understanding of 2 strokes..

still doesn't convince me that by gear 2 u can't over take him... u shld be touching 100+ in gear 2 if u say drag.

jus curious, in drag how high do u ram ur rpm??

but don't be dishearten with ur results. remember, their bike lighter, plus conering not tt advisable(if u see the video they jus posted).

plus when at constant speed, when u open trottle, our bike reacts n touches e particular speed better and faster..

Up to cameron with Honda Phantom??? Man! How long it takes to reach there? Ur engine must be screaming for help!

I'm sorry for u bro...

But as what the other bro said, let u & ur wife settle the "frightening moment" for couple of months or year... That is really important... It can be a traumatic experience to some people...

While for the touring, it is really up to u... but i like the idea of "join us with a car instead of bike"

Anyway just to share that i ever heard from my Malaysian friends that there is so called "dangerous zone" in NSH cause lots of mishap happen at that place... Maybe some brother here who know can share :?

Yeah bro. Keep that touring spirit alive man.

Gotta brief the guys tomoro b4 move off.

Guys ride safely & enjoy ur trips!

Dont forget to take pics & videos :cheer:
