Try adjusting yr RPM higher,to see if the engine still dies off..might be a problem with the idling wax unit or throttle bodies.Think it's better to see a bike doc if problem still there.

Past rides are already history....

anyone?..i've tried searching but couldn't find anythg similar..btw just found out engine also dies when lights are switched on with bike in gear

Does not ride a vfr, but if your bike runs fine without headlights (that means no problem when on the move without headlights), it could be an electrical issue. Get it check before something else fries.

Now that you've clarified this, its likely yr battery and/or the rectifier is going soon. Try swapping them both or borrow a set from someone to try out. But I had a near similar situation before before the rectifier fried.

I just changed my chain and 2 sprockets last week.

Do they need time to break in?

Somethings that I had noticed after the change:

1) Chain noise is non existence under 50km/hr.

Anyway above that I can hear metal "brushing" sound.

Am using scottoiler and the chain is pretty much well lubricated.

2) engine braking sound at low speed has become louder.

3) sudden acceleration from 1st gear produce "tata" sound from the chain.

Chain tension is pretty tight.

Don't know is me or what? :(

Congrats. At least you gt yr bike back alive!...

I had installed a voltage stab(meant for cars) for abt 1 year already. The one i gt has a very thick grounding wire which I like. I took the readings (at the batt) before and after install and found that the reading after install was slightly higher.

I think you can install a volt meter and to monitor the volts so tat you can kw early if there are any electrical problems.

No need a voltage stabilizer if you don't have any extra electrical gizmos.

Anyway, it's a fact that rectifiers/starter relay units from several Honda bikes have a shelf life of between 2-4 years. The starter relay unit for my Blackbird burned up after 2 years. Cost me $45 to replace it. Rectifiers will cost close to $200 if I'm not mistaken.

Based on my experience with 2 diff 5th genner vfr and 2 fried rectifiers later I strongly believe the the rectifier will fry if the battery is not in good condition. Reason being if the battery cannot take a charge, then the rectifier will have nowhere to dump the load that the generator is sending it. As a result, the rectifier fries.

That is why when it fails, both the rectifier and battery goes at the same time.

I learnt to change my battery before it dies; usually abt 2 years for me - it may be shorter if you don't ride as often.

I always go to FJT or eversuccess for Honda OEM parts.

Call and compare price first. But most time FJT should be cheaper.

About $150-$180.

Cause i found that after market front sprockets dun have the rubber cushion to support the chain like oem..

No worries,we are here to share infos.Think yr chain needs to loosen abit to ease the "tata" sound.

Yes, I had 2 rectifiers fried on 2 diff 5th genners. Changing the rectifier is a cinch; just remove the tail fairing, unbolt the rectifier from the frame, disconnect the connector, put in the new one in the reverse order of dismantling and voila. 20~30 leisurely minutes. Easier than changing the spark plugs.

I used to get my supplies at Blk 263 waterloo street. Bring along a sample for easy reference, otherwise just tell them you need a 3-pin connector. cheers

can fit and match perfectly with the original rectifier connector?
