Hello, my virgin post here. Posting on behalf of my boyfriend.

He is riding a cbr929. Recently, his cooling fan isn't working as well as it did last time. He just fixed the fan not long ago.

The overheating problem is getting scary, because last night it hit around 125 degrees and the digital meter started blinking. Blinking means dangerously overheating right?

The bike is feeling rather sluggish as well. He says he used to be able to reach 80km/h within a few seconds from moving off, but now it takes longer.

Anybody knows what might be the problem?

hi jazzyme

overheating could be caused by

-coolant level low

-fan motor not working(faulty fan motor switch)

-thermostat stuck close

-excessive carbon build up in combustion chamber

-clutch slipping

125deg is no joke. hope ur bf finds e remedy soon!

Fan motor faulty

- self explanatory

Fan motor thermostat switch faulty

- Located at top left corner of radiator (when sitting on bike) this switch turns on when the water temperature reaches about 103 deg C. If this switch is faulty, it will not close the circuit, and the fan does not run.

Thermostat faulty

- Located below tank. If faulty, it does not open and coolant will not be able to circulate.

Coolant level low

- self explanatory

Radiator cap seal faulty

- over time, the rubber seal at the cap hardens, and is not as airtight as before. When hot, coolant overflows into the overflow bottle. When cool again, the vacumn created will suck coolant back into the radiator from the overflow bottle. If the radiator cap is faulty, air will be sucked in and coolant is not able to go back into the radiator from overflow bottle

Air pockets in radiator

- follow instructions in manual to bleed out the air

Hi

I'm considering getting a 929 or a blackbird. Wondering how long can one ride a 929 before getting backache? I heard from friends that after 30mins will start to get ache is that true?

Also, for those that have ridden a bird before, can you comment on the differences in feeling? Comfort? Handling? What's the difference in terms of maintainance costs?

I actually prefer light and nimble bikes but since my main use is touring up north, I also think about comfort.

Thank you very much!

Base on my blackbird experience,

- seat is more comfy n spacious

- the handling of blackbird is ,much heavier even w/o damper, lesser vibration

- petrol compsumtion is not as high

- lower maintance ba

Thanks for the input.

Is it comfortable to go touring on a 929? How about commuting in Singapore traffic?

I agree, the fireblade definitely looks much better than the BB. BB looks a bit dated by today's standards.

i would say get ur fan chk asap, 125 degrees is really not joking matter... i would suggest ur bf to rest the bike when the meter starts blinking... when it blink, it means too hot...

as for the sluggish feeling, i guess it might be the exhaust valve having problem... do get it chk as well...

as for the manual, u can try the following webby:-

Actually I'm more concerned about the comfort. Hands, wrist, back, that kind of thing.

Thanks man.

One noob question, never having owned a sports bike before, is the pillion supposed to sit straight up or leaning onto the rider?

i feel that pillion share the same rider seat give mi much better handling compare to sitting on the pillion seat..

the pillion will oso feel the strain on the arms when leaning forward..

erm, i think it will be better for the pillion to sit leaning towards the rider(holding to the tank), if not the weight of the pillion will all be on the back of the bike, making handling very weird for the ride...
