hi guys, i am planning for a 2D1N short trip up north. i am hoping to go to a place whereby food is good and cheap. the hotel i am looking for if possible to be something like aloha loyang whereby parking of my bike can be within the compound.

i am planning this trip to get away from my hectic work here. hope to find some nice resort with beaches to relax and do nothing. wonder if there is any places in malaysia where u guys can recommend?

hoping to go sometime end of this mth..

thanks and cheers

nearest good beaches is either port dickson on the west coast or Pengyabong on the east coast. Best is go there before the monsoon season.

I noticed this is your first post. I will assume you opened a new account, and not that you are new to SBF and touring.

If you want it slow and easy, start keeping a lookout for petrol station along NSH once u travelled 100km. You shouldn't run out of petrol.

Its pretty much straight road, won't horlan.. But if you want to skip the KL jam, turn out at Exit 214, and follow the road signs towards Ipoh. This is a slight detour along E6 and E1 to bypass the KL section of NSH.

Try to leave in the morning. The Ipoh side of NSH is best done with daylight. A night ride through the Ipoh stretch is very tricky if it rains.

The last petrol stop in MY is Bukit Kayu Hitam, about 8km or so to the border. thai petrol is more expensive. The end part of NSH after Bukit Kayu Hitam has no warning that the expressway ends. Keep your eyes open once your odometer registers 800km.

Once you cross the border, thats Sadao. Plenty of hotels to rest if you are too tired to ride on to Hatyai. For about $20+ Sing you can get a hotel room. Guesthouse should cost about half of that.

On the return leg home, the Semanggul toll station bike lane will lead out of NSH. Keep your eyes open, once u see the road leading away from NSH, u need to do a U turn and rejoin NSH. Once u reach there u will know, but remember to U turn.

Apart from this, there are plenty of info available to you in Trip Thrills to do your planning. Many forumers have put up good info, so make full use of them by doing a search.

A last word, if this is really your first post and you have no experience in touring, at least ride with a more seasoned friend.

Hope it helps. Have a good trip :)

Have a good night sleep the day before, and take short break if you are sleepy/tired. Better to reach a bit later then never.

Bring some spare parts eg spark plug, tyre repair kit(make sure you know how to use it).

Bring a spare key, just in case you lost it, Protect your passport with waterproof material this include you hp and camera.

As Pplater had say, go with someone if you are making your first trip.

Enjoy your ride and post us a writeup so that we might learn from your experience.

How many days do you plan on riding?

thanks guys, that's rather useful info. planning a 1 week trip. adventure up 3 days, adventure back 3 days. start 10th, hopefully come back by 16.

got a friends place to stay in KL, so that will definitely be a stop point. really got no plans man. just hamtam only. go around places and sight seeing, if not just keep heading north.

i'm not trying to talk big here, but i really hope to hit phuket. if i can do that, then it's just a trip there and back.

please advise.

cheers

From Hatyai to Phuket is just Route 4 all the way. Follow the road signs in English and Thai and you will be fine. I would suggest setting aside 1 day riding from Hatyai to Phuket as it is about 500km of trunk road riding in thailand. Since its your first time, and u may be going alone, this will be pretty challenging already. I would not suggest riding from KL straight to Phuket as you may be delayed in Sadao border, and its not advisable to ride thai trunk road at night, for first timer at least. And its quite a hassle looking for guesthouse at night in unfamiliar area. A trip to no where is good stuff. Your iternary could look like this

Day 1 to KL

Day 2 Disturb KL friend

Day 3 KL Hatyai

Day 4 Hatyai-Phuket

Day 5 Explore Phuket

Day 6 Phuket to Hatyai

Day 7 Hatyai to home.

If you dun disturb your friend and depart for hatyai on day 2 u have an extra day to explore Phuket or Hatyai, up to you.

I having holiday, very free. lol... thats why come contribute to your thread.

Phuket is far, but not that far. What I'm concern is you only have 4 days to find riding khaki, which means most prob u go alone. Thats the difficult part, but its also the adventure part. You need to sort out your bike, but now is too near to be making major changes or servicing. You can get insurance in Hatyai behind Hatyai Rama hotel, and good maps of southern thailand can be obtained from the tourism centre. Just whack any hotel and get a map there first, then find your way around to the tourism centre. Or buy in Singapore before hand.

If i may ask, how long have you been touring in malaysia? And, do you know what to do at the thai border immigration? This one is critical, cannot make mistake.

thanks for info man. bike already serviced and should be good to go.

plan a: shoot up to anywhere i like, stop by KL, roam town to town, state to state. come back.

plan b: shoot up to boarder, or near boarder, hopefully done in a day. will start trip like 5-6am, to avoid riding at night, possible? find cheap place to sleep. next hit, phuket, hopefully also done in a day, start 5-6am also.

actually got 1 guy pm me already, hope he calls me, if not will go as planned.

got map already also, i think i can find my way around. but thanks for the details dude, really appreciate it.

open to anyone who wants to join me for the adventure.

cheers
