Hi there, I'm intending to change my stock Showa to YSS absorbers on my spec2. I was quoted $385 from my regular bikeshop so do you think is a good price? How much you paid for your YSS absorbers? Thanks. :)

Yeah, $240 I think at bikelab. But ppl say showa shocks not meant to be serviced cus those who serviced, few months later leak again. They say get YSS cus its servicable. This info is from ppl... So dun flame me:sian:

When i press my brakes when slowing down constantly. the whole handle will start to jerk and hv a sound that is like hitting sth. issit that my fork oil leak or any other possible reasons?

It could be your wheel bearing or steering cone...

newbie question :

is the rear canister attached to the springs adjustable ?:sian:

how long (mileage) can the stock shock last?

Thanks

The rear canister holds nitrogen. The specified amt of nitrogen (usually in bars) is not meant to be adjusted. The gas is there to pressurised the shock oil, so that when the piston moves, and oil is displaced from one side to another, the risk of cavitation is reduced.

If you see a knob there, then usually that is a compression damping adjuster. It is not linked to the gas but to the oil passage inside (if you are referring to the OEM showa on a CB400, there is no knobs)

Ohlins recommends a 30,000km service interval for road use for their shocks. For OEM, maybe even shorter intervals due to lower quality oil and materials.

Guys guys.. Dont waste money and rebuilt ur showa.. It will leak within few mths, i read countless times bout that. The thing is that showa doesnt have the necesarry function to rebuilt. If YSS which im using, there are bolts, hole and screws to dismantle it properly and rebuilt unlike showa.

  • Honda Wave 125
  • Honda CB400 Spec 3
  • Yamaha FZ6

a complete rebuild will include the following:

dismantle + cleaning + inspection for wear and tears on shims, piston/shaft.

new OE seals and o-rings

a fresh dose of suspension fluid accustomed to your riding style and weight

nitrogen gas if applicable

and of course, TLC to your shock.

the concept of opening up a shock and putting it back is simple, but whether the tech really knows what is what, is totally another thing.

cheers!

But if bo pian they still reAlly wanna service, then i suggest gor Bikelab. Thats the best place to go.

HUH!?...."The thing is that showa doesnt have the necesarry function to rebuilt."

I had done mine almost 10 yrs ago and still going strong...and countless ppl I had recommended to the same place.

The problem with ppl is that they go for the cheapest cost..example if A shop (the specialist) offers $260..B shop offer $200 and C shop offers $180..naturally he will let C shop do it...but not knowing that C shop is just a mototiam and will send it to A shop to do it. What do you think?..A shop will do a $260 job for it?..he probably does a $150 job and kopi money of $30 for C shop.

My advise is never to go for any mototiam to do and especially they tell you they need ur shocks for a a few days. The job direct from the specialist while u wait is only less then an hour unless you are on que.:sian:

Wah..give away..gave me leh! I heard a lot about butlab but never patronised them lah. Go to Teck Thye..name is David..#12 Bradell road. Best time to go is exactly 1 pm...watch him do if you want...$240 (Baikelab $260) for a pair total rebuild (new damper rubber, suspension fluid, nitrogen gas..etc) with addition 0.5cm light steel ring spacer on spring (something bikelab don't provide) for better rebound rate. Go..tell him I send you.

He rebuild most brand (depending on parts availablity) but well known for SHOWA.

To all who read this..I'm not affiliated to Teck Thye in anyway..this is what I know best and strongly recommend!:sian:
