Ok ahpek, can they rebuild yss too? Any number to call?

"YSS"...sue to be know as "use and throw" after its out of used because the rebuilding cost as much as a new one. he also sell a lot of YSS for those who are on budget....now I don't know.

Guys guys.. Dont waste money and rebuilt ur showa.. It will leak within few mths, i read countless times bout that. The thing is that showa doesnt have the necesarry function to rebuilt. If YSS which im using, there are bolts, hole and screws to dismantle it properly and rebuilt unlike showa.

Dude, I've seen at least 20 pairs of Showas sent in for rebuild. The problem is, some have been leaking for months, and the owner continue riding on it till he got money, then send for rebuilt.

So you can imagine the shock was running almost dry by then. Also, there is a copper like insert inside the shock. Sometimes the rebuild is postponed too long till this insert is rubbing on the shaft creating huge scratches and it doesn't help when the shock is already leaked dry.

The hard chrome on the shaft can't be re-chromed locally ( the hard chrome services here only do large orders)

However, if the damage is not too great, the mechanic can actually try to "save" the shaft using really fine grit sandpaper. Put the shaft in a press drill, let it spin, and hold a strip of sand paper to the affected area and move around evenly.

But sometimes, a workshop may take short cut, or when seeing a "beyond hope" shaft, continue to rebuild the shock because he wanna make that money. Thus the poor owner will find it leaking only after a few months. Because the seal cannot seat on the shaft properly due to imperfections on the surface.

Rest assured, the Showa shock on the CB400 IS REBUILDABLE and the rebuild will last if done properly, with quality seals and the correct procedure.

And not to forget, dis-assembled and assembled with the correct tools.

The Red Devil Welcomes You!

i would highly recommend Ohlins.

it's really good.

It's not about the power or speed or how fast your ride goes but the time & effort spent to achieve something different

bro, no offence.. but on what grounds/judgement made you say Ohlins are highly recommended?

you tried YSS full range? Rebuilt Showa? Bitubo full range?

if you have tried other brands of suspensions, other than stock, and did a comparison, then i believe your justification will stand.

cheers! :)

no worries my friend. :cheeky::cheeky::cheeky:

well on what ground i'd say?

let's just say sadly showa, Bitubo and Yss are out as they tend to rust over time. i think it's quite common..anyways

i'm not saying its bad or what nor am i asking you not to buy it.

I believe everyone has a different kind of shock to recommend.

regardless of brand as it's like what you say.

anyways if you guys actually read the cb400 threads there's

a guy who showed the bitubo shocks rusting...

hmmmm.. showa? haha i guess i don't need to explain.

as for ohlins, it's coated with titanium nitride.

which is a patented titanium coating that resists rust and grime.

so IMHO i would highly recommend people to get a pair of ohlins as

i believe many riders don't maintain their shocks often as in a after rain session or even want to clean it as some of em believe it's a hassle?

the plus point is that it's a more worth investment over time

and i even have friends who shown me their shocks after a year without

cleaning it and surprisingly it did not show any signs of rust or corrosion.

so at the end of the day IMHO ohlins shocks are still the best

in terms of finishing & springs. and of cos i strongly feel the value for it.

If you have the extra dough get the fully adjustable ones

or like me, the normal range ones will do just great.

and obviously the springs are stronger than the stocks ones...lol.

regards,

Fred =)

how about performance?? i'm sure nobody would spend quite a fair bit just to make sure it doesn't rust, right?

it's 1k at minimum.. that's quite a bit of investment to make sure it doesn't rust..

as for the bitubos, indeed they will rust.. but i have seen the newer batch.. no more rusting issues.. plus the rustings were covered by the distributor at no extra cost when went down for servicing..

true true my friend. i totally agree with you so

let me try to share my humble exprience ya?

lets do a discussion on prices too.

1) Bitubo shocks without canister - $850 + - ?

2) Bitubo shocks with canister - $1200 + - ?

3) Ohlins Shocks HO142 - $1095

4) Ohlins Shocks HO145 - $1938

prices were based on current market value for new ones.

how i felt?

well i'm not really ap professional at sharing this kind of exprience but here goes!

1) 100% stiffer springs for sure ( which after market doesn't? okay..maybe some cheapo brands )

2) not so bumpy anymore =D

3) during tight coners or fast ones, felt that i would feel the rear wheel more

giving me more control and response during a bend.

4) looks good and of cos my fav...very shinny i like =D

5) even with a 50+kg passenger on my rear, the shocks are still

responsive and it doesn't sink down as much as bitubo's. test was done with a friend who WAS using a bitubo without canister.

please note

my shocks have been adjusted to my own comfort and riding style.

also i believe tyres plays a part? i'm using Alpha 11s.

well everyone thinks and acts differently..so you decide whats best for you =)

honestly i was in between bitubos and ohlins and i couldn't decide

but in the end i got ohlins not knowing how it performs but cos

friend says: haiya, buy ohlins together la

me: don't want la, bitubo fully adjustable including the rebound rate!

friend says: who use Ohlins in moto gp?

me: rossi & stoner la who else..

friend says: wrong! 90% OF EM ARE OHLINS EQUIPPED!

me: so??

friend says: FYI, Ohlins shocks are MADE specially for CB 400.

And it's in the catalog for crying out out loud! it went through the R & D to get it produced. and it's cheaper la not like bitubo's where it's a pick & match.

me: let's buy ohlins lor...zzzzz

you mean the bitubo shocks i were using last time on my s4 were not manufactured specifically for s4? that's something new. :cheeky:

Not sure about "specifically" made for S4 or any bike but as long as the length and mounting is similar in specifcation..can use liao. Some S4 are running around with Honda CBF 750 suspension...no canister but stronger in structure and build and better rebound rate than S4 stock (Vtec..not non Vtec).

correct. as long as the eye-to-eye length and mountings are similar or same with the OE specifications, it is OK.
