Learning class 2b..

Practical 1.

The first lesson was tough. Mentally and physically. I had tried lesson 1 before and I could not get past the biting point. I kept losing balance while on tip toe and could not support the bike at all. Luckily I did better this time. Managed to go on 1st gear but was struggling to corner. Somehow I can't turn left and I kept losing my balance. After some pep talk and sharing during our break, I eventually got the turn after many falls.

Managed to go into changing of gears. Had trouble kicking up gear peddle and balance on bike/throttle control still not good yet. But manged to do gear changing on mini circuit.

Went to main circuit and proceeded to 5th gear. Clutch and throttle control better. Did s shape cornering in 2nd gear and did short distance braking. Have a bit of problem with short distance braking

Left feet down while cruising a bit unstable during less than 1 meter braking. Need to turn off throttle , slight brake, then clutch, then come to stop while unbalanced. clumsy

Need to focus on bettering my braking and cornering.

Did lesson 5 of prac 1. Braking was better. Passed prac 1 on this session. But need more practice. Passed upon merit of effort cum mediocre skills. Need to jiayou orh.

Good luck and practice more. You can do it!

Read Rijac's tips on lessons on CDC main thread.

Looking forward to your experience sharing.

I always salute to gals who went for riding lessons, especially those on class 2a and 2. I went through the lessons myself and learn how difficult and heavy those bikes are.

Posted

For myself, during my first few lessons, i had trouble turning and maneuvering as well. It was only until lesson 4 that 1 instructor told me my posture was to stiff, elbows were locked all the time. Might be same issues for many new riders as well. What i learned was to sit upright, lean forward(not hunch) a little more, turn your elbows instead of your shoulders while turning at low speed, relax yourself while riding. This will help greatly during cornering and all the obstacle courses in the future.

Prac 2

Was worried I couldn't cope with this lesson initially; what with all the co-ordination -* lane-changing/gear-switching/signals/blindspot/cancel signals etc. However was surprised by the go ahead on the second try. was briefed by instructor on the circuit course, where to check blind spot, where to signal etc.i would say prac 2 is not very difficult as you will get used to the procedures and the bike also will not swerve/sway when glancing to check blindspot.

Prac 3

Figure 8 and hazard course.

enjoyed the fig 8 when I'm in it. Going into it was tricky for me. I would stall/fall while changing up to gear 2 while entering. Hazard course was also challenging. Passed this on 2nd attempt unexpectedly.

Prac 4

Plank and slalom

1st prac was taken aback by the roughness of the plank, threw me a little off balance . as with the hazard course and fig 8, I had to do gear-changing quickly while turning with the slalom, which I'm not very efficient at. I had inconsistent result with the Plank and slalom But by prac 4, I was getting used to frequent short distance braking that was nerve-wrecking in prac 1.

Funny how I happen to check back today and see a response posted recently.

Hate to break it to ya guys, but I have passed NOT.

Story goes, colbebe has passed a couple more pracs after her last post, but stopped for the loooongest time due to other commitments.

I renewed EVERYTHING just recently, AND I took my practical test today!

Well, sadly, I failed.

Firstly, loosen ur grip on the handle bar... in fact don't grip it. Just hold it softly like u would a baby bird.

Plank look at something beyond the end of the plank, preferable at eye level. The bike will go where u're looking at.

Crank course, most importabt is where u look. After ur safety check the moment u bike start to move, look at point A so that ur bike will turn towards A. The moment u enter the crank course, look at point B. The moment ur bike turns toward pint B, look at point C. So essentially u look where u want to go BEFORE turning. Not easy but as u build ur confidence, will be 2nd nature.

For the crank course, I know instructors tell you specifically NOT to feather the clutch. But trust me, just feather the clutch anyway. Go into the course with a bit more speed, shift up to second gear, clutch back in, make the first turn, half clutch and throttle to the next corner, clutch in again and make the second turn. A lot of new riders stutter in this because they are afraid of stalling the bike and cannot concentrate on the turning.

For plank, grip the tank with your thighs. Go into the course with a bit more speed, don't go too slow or you'll lose balance. Clutch in the moment you get on top of the plank, look far ahead at the end of it. Tap your rear brake repeatedly to slow down, but don't press down too much. Your best chance of dragging the timing longer is when you are near the end of the plank. The tester does not stop the watch until your rear wheel comes down, so at the end of it, just keep tapping your rear brake repeatedly to hang on for as long as possible.

Good to know you are still trying! It won't be easy but I am very sure once you pass you will enjoy the thrills that comes along with riding! Especially if you go overseas and have a chance to do some leisure riding... You'll see sights you will never see when in a car.

Even in Singapore... You'll prob smell durian along the expressways😂

Keep up the spirit!

Haha great to see your post. I passed today!

Any bike in mind?

Anyone can ride a bike. Being a biker, is a state of mind.

Am not sure. Maybe a sports bike. Or not. Don't really know yet. Wait till I have the resource to fund a bike first.

i think I'm gonna go with a street bike anyways. Since I'm not familiar with the roads, I don't wanna stress on a different handling just yet. I've also heard sports bikes are not a "safer" option. But I do think A great part plays on the rider and not the bike. No matter, a suitable height for me would be good.

Yeah, a street bike is safer becos of the posture. On a bike that requires to be in a crouching aggressive posture, our mindset will automatically be more garang. But when u're in an upright position, u will somehow be in a different state of mind.

So to continue my last chapter of class 2b at cdc, if it's helpful for anybody out there..

Having failed my previous traffic police test , I had to book and attend a "re-training", which is surprisingly similar to a road revision practice; except that it's completely compulsory to attend.

Book it, then u may be able to book for your next TP.

So I'm there for my tp again. Gotta be there by 715am . I think the main thing hindering test-takers from performing is the nerves and the long wait. You arrive at 715 but the test doesn't start till about 9++.

You have 2 hours to build up your anxiety (even if you didnt't have any to begin with).

You start with a warm up round around the circuit then you wait. They brief you on the test route again and all necessary blind spots.

The test begin and you go by your number tag in groups of 5.

A very good reminder to help yourself rein in the nerves would be to tell yourself "I have worked hard for this and I deserve to pass."

You start endeavouring through the circuit course with maximum effort. As you start coming out of the e-brake on the course of heading out to the main road (hoorah!); you realised the entire time you were going through slope, figure 8, plank, slalom, you've forgotten to breathe. Sigh, you exhale your first breath of relief that all this stress is coming to an end soon.

The air outside feels somewhat lighter. You're able to breathe through the entire rest of the test.

The road ahead will not be plain sailing but after the first bypass of the first tp whose situational placement is unpleasantly prominent or striking, you get the first taste of 'freedom'.

Make your blind spot checks clear and evident and take confidence with your judgement here.

When you're back in the circuit, the Instructors on standby will hail you down on where to park. wear your pride on your sleeve as you unmount because You have taken skill, courage, and effort to do this.

just curious how tall are you?my wife passed her 2b almost a year ago and she is quite vertically challenged as she is less than 1.50m tall...she is riding a Suzuki raider 150 currently and it find it powerful enough for 4stroke bike for overtaking yet tall enuff for her...

I ride at 70km/hr only...please please dont blow2 at me or overtake me dangerously....wait i change into Incredible Hulk n dont know why my little baby bike will always be ahead of u if u do that

I'm 156. Less than 150 is really quite challenging
