sorry if i missed out your car model.

I sincerely hope that drivers/owners of the mentioned cars can share their insight/experience on this matter.

wanna verify whether it's a myth or truth.

Thinking of getting a small car for my youngest sister in the near future.

i often heard "stories" of such cars not able to move up slopes when fully loaded. Let's not talking about going up Genting or climbing Cameron Highlands.

how about climbing to the top of ngee ann poly or mount faber? or any other steep carparks in singapore.

anyway i read this somewhere, a Kia Picanto fully loaded with adults could NOT get out of Yishun 10 GV's carpark. The driver had to ask everyone to get out, before driving out of the carpark.

Read this from another forum too. Honda Fit 1.3 too? Seems like it's most of the time the Auto version, not the Manual version?

I was a honda fit 1.3A owner b4 i've own the latio sports :) i still rem once when my fit ferried my mum, dad, brother granny n me to bright hill temple for prayers, my car cannot move up the slope no matter how much the accelerator i step on haha... in the end ask them all to alight n i have to off aircon n try again then it slowly moved haha.. so malu..

also can a turbo-charged small CC car like Mitsubishi I overcome this problem?

You missed out Daihatsu Copen, 660 cc :)

i left it out because it's a 2-seater.

tell me how you wanna load it up to 300-400kg with just 2 person onboard?

the car is extremely light and can only seat 1 passenger, i believe it wouldn't face any problems mentioned earlier.

but thanks for bringing that car up. :D

I am driving a Suzuki Every.

It's a 658cc van. I have no problem with 4 adults and 1 kid.

Think total load was 370KG for passengers + about 15-20 KG for my shopping stuff. We managed to climb up Benjamin Sheares Bridge from Marina towards Airport

wow that's nice.

but if i am not wrong, Vans/lorrys/goods vehicles are usually built for torque.

so such load will be "chicken feet" for them, they have alot of low end power and torque to pull.

thanks for sharing. :thumb:

There's a pretty steep slope going up the Singapore Island Country Club in Island Club road. I couldn't go up on my 125cc bike with a pillion. It made a lot of sound, but it hardly moved up the slope! Had to ask the pillion to alight!

I don't think a car will have any problems -- unless you see a sign indicating an extra steep slope.

Just stop, shift to gear one and floor the accelerator!

I got a Getz 1.1L.. Fully loaded can go up steep slop leh.. Same engine as Picanto.. That Picanto owner dunno how to use clutch issit? I ever drove a Malaysian Kancil 650cc up Genting with 3 other passenger before.. Damn bloody slow, but still can reach..

If you got a car den buying one for ur sis den a small car would be practical.. If she wanna go up north or something can always swap with you. I find my Getz 1.1L very practical cos of the folding rear seats(I need to deliver stuff for work).. Rear boot can fit a child stroller.. Best part is rd tax is only $280 for 6 mth! My office is at Yishun, if u wanna try my car see how a 1.1L engine feels can let me know. Cheers!

For auto cars, you need to come to a stop before the slope so that the transmission will start from the lowest gear. To be safe, switch to low gear.

The flooring of the accelerator is to go quickly -- and stay there -- to the rpm with the highest torque. You want to be at that rpm before you hit the slope.

Now auto cars have the gear thing, when going but slope,it will won't change to higher gear,i guess most auto-cars have it...
