Hi Guys, I started this topic in regards of a debate I'm having with my friend.

We each have different views on the aspects of local road riding condition , and we have to seek some respond from others in the forum to justify it.

Personally I think Singapore has one of the best road condition around, no worries for potholes, extreme traffic jam (up tp 3 ,4 hours) and most important, we have a very efficient law enforcer on local road.

Almost every bends and corners u can find in singapore are all nicely contoured by engineers, good lighting throughout day n night..

Personally I have been through most of the state of malaysia and southern thailand road condition. I find that we are darn fortunate to live in SG, cause the road condition are way too good.

So what says your opinion ?

singapore is a city.. malaysia and south thailand are a country or part of a country. which consist of city (much bigger then singapore) town , vilage and rurare area.... so how to compare.. even comparing city to city singapore is much smaller compare to KL. having the resource of a country to manage a city area size road system is much easier compare to a country, state, province etc. and one more thing singapore is a "developed" country as the other two is .. developing.

I agree that we have gd roads but the problem lies with road users.

Take a look at X-junctions with loads of sand, pebbles and stones from the vehicles that transport them. The stones actually 'melt' under the heat and form a 'lump' on the road which is dangerous for 2 wheelers like us especially at right turn pocket area. I hope the authorites can do something about this for example, imposing heavy penalty for offenders. In this case, overloading of objects/speeding.

Another one is probably cable laying under the roads that makes the road look like jig saw puzzle.

if u r saying those "cables" near every traffic light, that lines are not cables.. it is actually sensors which detects moving objects so that i will turn green.. however, it is too weak to sense the movement of bikes..

I am not talking about the sensors.

Its the cabling works. Not sure what cable they lay underneath but u can see clearly the path of the cable with different tone in the tar.

Singapore roads are superb, except for the sheer number of access panels to cables or pipes.

And they are all over the place within one lane (usually the rightmost lane), so you got to swivel your bike if you don't want a bumpy ride.

Singapore Road are superb good compare to neighbour country, pot holes are soon cover & Road signs/warning signs are visible from far. They even tell you that there is speed camera ahead.

But it may be because the road is too nice & smooth that sometimes if there is sand or engine oil on the road surface, its easily get skid while making fast turn.

Especially small rain while all the oil float on the road surface from beneath, yet rain not so big enough to wash the oil away, very dangerous to play corner at this condition. Unless you are Rossi :giddy:

Hmm, this would be categorized under "Do you think Singapore has the best drivers in the world". Nevertherless, interesting to note though.

Singapore is small. Compare it to other big countries like Malaysia. The latter country can only afford to maintain roads and expressways that they feel should be maintained, namely E2 North-South Expressway and E3 "Second-Link" Expressway.

Also, notice that both expressways have toll booths; that's where the budget comes from into maintaining those expressways. Singapore is the same: ERP, Road Tax -- these funds find their way into "beautifying" our roads too.

I applaud the thread-starter for starting such an inquisitive topic. In fact, I'll put one more inquisitive question that you can ponder about: What happens if dilligent-minded Singapore owned Malaysia* (and its roads)? Wow, LTA would have a super huge HQ building, the ROV and Traffic police strength would be ten- or 100-times its strength, more paperwork/planning/huge projects per day on the "beaten-up" highways, sometimes lasting 10 years or so to cover every inch of roads in the country, more problems, efficiency would drop because Singapore's LTA would be delegated to maintain the thousands of roads in such a large country...

* This is part of an inquisitive thought and there should be no assumption that it would happen, nor should one develop profound zeal towards that thought. Therefore, one should not be inclined to act in a rash and foolish way based on that thought, including actions relating, but not limited to, racism and prejudice. I myself know that it won't happen :)

In fact, road conditions are relatively good in Singapore

except the traffic are getting worse,

all thanks to the cheap COE which resulted to the massive growth of cars!

I did it my way

Think they are remaking the roads to smoother conditions but hopefully it takes into considerations on wet roads........ the material used (tar) should perhaps be improved.

I think the roads themselves are quite good. But there are still hidden dangers, so please ride carefully. And we need better road maintenance as in removal of pebbles and fallen branches!

IMO, I think the NSH is quite well maintained actually. Though there is like a significant difference between the 2 lanes, I guess maybe because the authorities understand that the overtaking lane is meant for commuting at higher speeds that is why it's better paced out.

Singapore expressways are a ###### to ride on, they feel like trail mountain rides for bikes with stiffer suspension.
