Hi all, can I just check, will side boxes fit if I have a yoshi tri-oval full system on my spec III?

If so, which ones? Thanks in advance!

Posted

Side boxes fits well with the Tri-Oval as your exhaust is already low. If you have the monies, H&B is the way to go. Junior panniers look nice and rigid on any bike. Next would be the Givi V35 or Kappa K33N contoured side boxes. They mount slightly higher up and conforms to the shape of your tail section. There are other side boxes you can consider from Givi. I used to have the E36, similar to the SCDF Firebikes except that theirs are E45. If you're on a budget and just wan that extra space to put smaller stuffs like raincoat or bike cover and such, Givi E21 is sufficient.

All in all, there are no CB400 specific side pannier racks. You gotta have a custom bracket made to hold the universal racks for each specific side boxes. Seng Kwang I recommend cos their workmanship is of top notch quality and I personally have used their services before. But you pay for quality...

Right, thanks for the advice! The H&B 40L are junior boxes are they? If I have a budget of around 600-800 what boxes should I get? I know H&B costs about 1.1K :( and I don't like the looks of the givi boxes. They look like traffic wardens' bikes!!!!

For 600-800, and if you don't mind 2nd hand stuff, get yourself the 30L H&B Junior and the rack. Bring it to Seng Kwang and get your brackets done. Just my opinion on your budget range. The 40L might look a bit too big and make your bike look like having a pair of jet thrusters. :D:D:D

Wah the V35 is insanely huge man, looks like I'm strapping 2 HDB blocks to the bike! Surely the H&B 40L will look like strapping 2... i don't know... industrial estates?

Talk about being subtle...

Any pics of a H&B 30L ?

Bt H&B boxes, thou claiming of the capacity, cant really fit in as much as oppose to other brands.

Sans the quality used to mk them.

U may try K33, slightly thinner than the V35s

Like I said before, the H&B will look like jet thrusters cos of their block design. The construction of the H&B are actually double-walled shell, thus giving you the protection for your contents in the box in the event you fall.

The V35s and the K33Ns should be mounted to follow the contour of your tail section. Therefore its slightly higher and eliminates the need to lower your exhaust.

For the H&B, no need to lower also can.

Those kind of side box can try give Ah Boy a visit. Ban Hock Hin might have them too...

=) thanks for the advice! I've decided that it's probably a better idea to just keep the box in mind for now! =)

oh wow the pillion wld have difficulty jus getting on the bike since he or she cant even stretch her or his legs straight since the front part of the v35 wld be in the way...especially a real challenge for people with thick solid thighs.....perhaps can still install brackets to position the v35 side brackets more to the rear....also may need extension brackets for the signal lights...,jus some honest tots..

I ride at 70km/hr only...please please dont blow2 at me or overtake me dangerously....wait i change into Incredible Hulk n dont know why my little baby bike will always be ahead of u if u do that

Posted

Actually, once seated its very comfortable. The only problem is getting on and off the bike for the pillion. Other than that, no problems...

I'll be saving up for a pair of V35 for my ride.... But a word of cation to those who would like to mount side panniers or boxes to your ride.

Do have your rear mounted shocks serviced... other wise, it'll affect your bike's handling.

Best is to get your springs changed to higher rates. Some known suspension specialist like BikeLab has higher load rating springs...
