I think you are missing the whole point of racing then. To illustrate, whats a race with back markers cruising around dangerously, attempting to sabotage others? Whats worse is repeatedly trying to sabotage fellow Singaporeans with a bike powerful enough to smoke the field on the straight. There's a great example in the past few MSS Ape Cup.

There used to be an informal basic criteria of at least lapping some decent timings in PG before a race license is granted. Amba and Spiderman was informed, just 3 years ago, that their 1:53s was insufficient to be granted a license. I dont deny a 250/400 should be lapping consistently under 1:50 though. Surely, there must be a balance between quantity and quality with the greater interest in racing now?

Want a fun "race"? There's always something call PG track day 5 laps challenge.

An alternative is to pool interested riders and book the track for half a day. 6000rm is it? Cant finger the exact figure now. A cheaper alternative would be to find a normal day and gather fellow interested riders, although rolling start only and no marshalls around to help.

I apologise for b i t c h-ing, albeit constructively I hope. I am hopeful that MRS/Clubman will be successfully held this year.

Not quite a mouthful but a few key sentences of yours have described your aforementioned "fuzzy-cup" into a bigger picture :giddy:

Again, let me iterate that I hope we could all settle on something that we can munch on, not gobble as a whole.

Of course, this is not to limit or restrict people from partaking this kind of sport.

I owe you due respect for your insight on this.

I think I got too carried away with shooting and missed my whole pt. Someone should just volunteer and pool everybody's money to book the track to conduct a personal "race" event. No need of a race license or even proper gear. No idea whether this is illegal and how much it will cost though.

Cheers to racing!

FYI racing in unsanctioned race for smsa licence holder if caught will be banned from racing for dunno how long. So we cannot join.

Hi:

Thks to all for your constructive suggestions & opinions.

Yes, there were some in the past who were not granted race licenses.

However, in my point of view, why do we stop riders who really got the passion of racing? In my personal opinion, this will only stop passionate people from the racing if I capped it at maybe 1:50? There are many ppl who can do this but do not apply for license and race. There are also some who can't at this point of time but passionate about the motorsports. I do not want to stop these riders as i believe in something call improving with enthusiasm. I do not want to crush these riders confidence right from the start, however, i want them to improve & in fact i encourage such attitude.

I do not want to tell ppl off like: "Cannot, I won't approve & sign your license, because you cannot do 1:50 on PG. Show me u can do 1:50 1st before i grant you your license." Isn't this hard on the rider?

However, every rider who applys for the license should get a constitution booklet which includes General Sporting Codes & some rules & regulations when participating in an event. These are the basic knowledge a rider should know & read himself/herself, because the day when he/she applies for the license, he/she should be mature enough to know tat he/she is already a level higher than the orders to participate in a race event.

I'm not shooting anyone here, so pls dun let it be a flaming thread. I just stating my point here, however, I do not disagree with anyone here too.

Riders like Amba, Spiderman, Jahat, Dol, 5thrider.... n many riders who rides & races in events knows the rules pretty well, therefore they can provide good advice & knowledge.

However, my hope is to open at least a class of sgbikes forum especially to those newbies & ppls who are passionate, have been to track regularly, but not raced before.

Therefore, i really need to see response here, to make it happen, to show pg our response here, so nt to cancel any events again.

You don't need to worry; he's just giving exemplary scenario only.

If it's true, then that'll be the deciding factor of each and every one's eligibility in the "SG bikeforum Race" if this was to be implemented. Truth is, it takes eons just to hit the golden 1:50 mark.

Say, I really did court controversy. Well my example was just refering to a particular clown. No idea why he still participates after clowning around for so many seasons. Passion for race? Most likely passion in clowning.

Putting aside my gun, I am also one of the passionate-improving-with-enthusiasm-category as quoting pgmivnsr. So Corse and others please dont take it personally. I do hope the only requirement to participate is a personal SGbike acc, so all can rock. Cheers to racing!

Actually.....its not that difficult......very easy....

I second RESPECT comment.

Yes, you can say track riding is easy in which you simply "open throttle and go faster."

....that is, until your bike decides not to listen to your needs to go faster and (without riding techniques), it'll be inefficiently slow on the track and also, do unexpected stuff during rough riding.

condordragon, I've been through this before but I finally learnt that training + technique + patience -- all goes a long way. Your first step is to learn the track environment...

Go on, PG is waiting for your first try, and the many valued practice sessions you will experience on the track before you can fulfill your wishes to become a seasoned rider :)

i guess u must be very fast.. natural talent.. and confident.. guess u already know which gears to use for which corners, how fast to enter, and how many turns there are in PG, wat kinds of turns they have there. no sarcasm intended... but try not to be too confident. it makes u a more reckless rider. u need to learn how to pass safely, especially with zero-race experience riders... i myself still learning to make a pass...

speaking from my own experience, i used to ride recklessly(to me is CONFIDENTLY) on the roads.. and normally in the front of the pack of my own biking group, be it corners or straights. but i realise, if u think ur fast, there are others who are faster. and it took me quite a lot of sessions, to familiarise with the track. see it this way... my balls can be as big as amba's(i've checked!).. both of us ride the r6, but still he's faster than me. there are many other factors why he can still go faster in the corner than me. Try 1st la.. but if u can clock 1.50 on ur 1st time to track on ur SP, then i'll applaude u! :thumb:

I would like to add... Thinking of riding fast will only make things harder to learn on the track.

There are so many things to think of just to make a turn. (example turn 1)

From top speed, to ur entry speed, shifting ur body, when are u gonna start braking? which gear to used, ur eye point before u start banking, when to crack open the throttle during banking to set the bike stable, applying weight on ur foot pegs, hanging on the bike using ur torso ,arms and thighs, at the apex, eye point looks for the exit, when to start opening more throttle, when the lean angle decreases, open throttle till full bore... Of course after many practice, these things should become natural. Too many new riders think abt entering the corner to fast and hot, but looses the line during the turn. always enter in the corner with control, start to go fast in the corner.

every1 can go fast.. u juz have to open throttle.. but riding or racing is not about juz opening throttle.. i know tat.. i have never taken a proper corner.. i m saying i wanna learn... mayb this sentence of mine made u all think like tat "i m new to race but i dun think i will b at the back.." i dun mean i will b leading but i wont b far back in the pack.... i guess u all dun undertand wat i m saying nvm...
