My bike suddenly died on me while I was waiting at a filter lane. Riding with pillion and tons of traffic behind me. Great experience for my adrenaline levels...

So of course, because I still think I'm a lousy bike person, I alsmost immediately sms MJ saying "ok my bike doesn't start, the electric starter is dead. I'm gonna check the spark plugs and the battery, any other idea before I tow?" He was on his way to help when I managed to restart the bike - it was the spark plug that apparently wasn't in contact enough with the metallic portion of the rubber cover. I suspect it's from when someone played with my spark plug that day (you know who you are !!!!), the cover wasn't all the way in, and maybe with the riding and the vibrations it slitghtly moved out ?

I don;t know, anyway, took the rubber cover off, looked at it like I knew what I was doing, and put it back pushing it real hard all the way down. Went to the starter, tried and.....voila !! Here I am doing the happy dance by the side of the road in front of my beloved Shadow.

Then I gave my bike a hug because i was so scared it has fallen sick. Then another hug because it's when you loose something that you realize how much you need it. :lovestruck:

The good thing about this story is that because we were waiting for the downpour to stop, MJ had the time to teach me how to take out, check, replace, and lub the spark plugs. Of course it wasn;t without us exchanging some nice words ("Alamak O'Ren, where's your screw driver ? The kit has a screw driver, where is it ? " "eeeeeerrrrhhh... I don't know... I.. I think it's at home..." "What? :slapforehead: You know they put it in your kit for a reason right ? *starts to grumble things while I duck by the bike pretending to be be busy opening the spark plug cover..*)

haha.. I had a great time and now I know my bike a bit more !

Hey atipo, tomorrow during the BTMO, can we talk about organizing a "Bike Mechanics lesson" for the team here ? Just do that kind of basic stuff so everyone gets a chance to learn how to do simple things themselves

hey wasn't me ok. when i left u, u still able to start ur bike. i'm very sure i plug it in correctly, cos i change spark plug myself.

in ur case better check if there's water inside or ur plug is not in good condition. cos if it's running, even if u pull out the pug, ur bike shouldn't die.

cos i'm just comparing petrol vs public transport, maintainence of bike, etc, etc haven't add in. :cheeky:

Yeah, When I compared the running cost of bike vs public transport, for daily travel of 50 kms the outcome was that bike costs are about same as that of public transport i.e. taking into account only parking+fuel+road tax+insurance. I am not even taking into account the actual price of the bike or its maintainance. Luckily no ERP on my route if ERP have then :faint:

But for me the bike is just invaluable because of the distance to my office, I just cant imagine spending 2 and half hours on public transport daily. Also near my house there is no groceries store. For everthing need to take out my bike, so can't imagine life without a bike at the moment.
