Hey guys,

There seems to be some problem with my bike. When I change to 5 gear, there is sound coming from the engine/chain. Its kind of a rattling sound, it happens only while accelerating on the 5th gear even at low speed. At same speed 4th gear I dont get that sound. Also it happens only while accelerating, if I close the throttle I dont get the sound. Any idea what the issue could be?

I intially thought it could be very tight chain and I went to nearby bike shops, they say the sprockets are worn out. But how can the sound come only in 5th gear if sprockets are worn out? I am thinking the 5th gear is worn out, what do you guys think?

Thanks,

Revhappy

Bro, @mjbs64 and @arthur_chan, Using @spaiduhz's help I was able to reproduce the issue above, by putting the bike on main stand and then changing gears and revving and can hear the sound in 5th gear. But can't make out from where the sound is coming.

I am thinking of opening the chain box and the front sprocket cover and since my chain is o-ring chain it has the clip, which I believe I can remove and so I can remove the chain entirely from the bike and then put back the gear lever and then try revving again. If the noise still appears in 5th gear that means its an engine/gearbox issue. What do you say, can I do this experiment at home?

The left spark plug is easy to access and can use the wrench but the right one is deep inside so need that long tube like wrench.

Bro, nice ad. But try to put more description like what the mileage is etc Just put a lot of stuff in the ad to make it look like you are true enthusiast and have taken of the bike well.

A nice example ad is this:

http://www.singaporebikes.com/forums/showthread.php/321681-2007-Pulsar-180-UG3-FBB-Plate-For-Good-Sale

Put it in the new classifieds section and also the garage sales section and singapore.gumtree.sg also.

If you are looking at 2.5k which is definitely possible since yours is UG3, you should place the ad at 2.8k and then people will anyways negotiate you down. There are lots of Indian expats who love this bike and are ready to pay the price(This was told to me by a bike trader) you should wait for them with lots of patience :)

All the best!

the left most tool.

just put the top tip into the hole n pull. should be clockwise tighten, anti-clockwise loosen, like a screw.

if u know how to take out the chain, by all means, but do prep to spray back the lube after fixing it back.

if it's sound from the engine, could be ur timing chain, it's inside the block.

the 1st tool is the tool for adjusting the suspension

just align the tool to the groves on the suspension and pull it clockwise or anti-clockwise to make it harden or softer

the lower the spring the tharen the suspension and the higher the spring the softer the suspension

the left spark plug is not as deep as the right one

you can go to any hardware store and ask for a size 16 deep socket

they will know what is it

the socket can get at autobacs with 2 sizes,16 and 22,with the T wrench at about $6 or $8 i can't remember

keke i just bot the tube only, need something rigid to turn, i use the screw driver in my bajaj tool. imo, it's much easier to carry n keep than the T wrench.

I was able to remove the clip from the chain but couldn't remove the link. So I just put the clip back and left it as it is.

BTW, here's the pics of the chain and sprocket. The rear sprocket looks like stock. The chain is EK 428 SRO O-Ring chain.

The more I listen to the sound the more it appears to be coming from the engine block.

you might find it easier to remove the link when you pull the chain links closer. a bit of wire helps. or a supple hand, with palm and last two fingers grabbing one end, and thumb, index and rim fingers grabbing the other.

if it is coming from the lower engine, and its specific to the fifth gear, then i suggest you ask yourself for how long you wish to ride this bike. the repairs will be costly.
