hehe..not like car uh..every duno hw many 1000 will check on this check on dat..but wad to do..i too dun lube e throttle cable till recently i hear got hinging sound den i started lubin..hehe..nxt btwo..bring ur lubes..we lube together kekekekekekeke

Lubing clutch cable is not as frequent as lubing chain. Its a part of the maintenance schedule. The problem here in Singapore is that bike shops dont follow any kind of regular maintenance schedule. Its only when we tell them something is wrong they will look at it. Thats why I never took my bike to UM last whole year because anyways they are not going to do what requires to be done. Its only when something breaksdown need to go to the bike shop.

I tried lubing clutch, its not easy. The lube will just not go in. You need the clutch lubing tool. There are youtube videos that show how the clutch cable is lubed.

I heard some people tell me that you dont really need to depress the clutch to change gears. You just need to know the timing of when to change and then can change without depressing the clutch. Not sure how true it is.

My new bikes front fork is damn hard. It just wont go in and I can feel even the slightest of unevenness on the road. My previous bike front fork was super soft but the downside was that at low speed the bike was bouncy felt like a horse

Have it changed asap. Its cheap and doesnt take long to install.

Usually i drip oil on the cable, and work the clutch to ease oil into the cable shaft. It takes forever, though. And it leaves a mess. I just used a syringe to inject oil into the shaft, and its much faster.

It's not about UM... It's your bike right ? You know the maintenance it needs ?

I often see at UM people just parking outside and expecting the mechanics to do everything.

Instead, you should:

1. stay there and observe, ask questions, communicate

2. explain clearly what you want done on the bike

You are the owner. You have a manual. You are the rider. The mechs will help as much as they can and of course they will only help if the bike has a problem. Why would they ask you about the bike or take a deeper if everything is fine ? Especially if you go there when it's very busy.

If we read the manual and WANT TO LEARN ABOUT THE BIKE, there is no way the servicing or the work done in any bikeshop will not be what we want. The advantage I find UM has over other bikeshops is that they know the bike so it's easier to explain.

talk about stress, i have a flat tyre, don't know what happen, no nail no nothing. :(

What do you do in that case ? Do you use a repair kit like for bicycles , pump the tyre back and ride to the bikeshop to change it ?

Is it the front or rear wheel ?

I need to learn how to fix a punctured tyre, otherwise it's gonna be tricky to tour...

Pulsar forks are not adjustable, as in they dont have an external adjuster for preload. However! There is a cheatcode!!

You can ask the mech to put less or more fork oil to adjust preload. I hate bouncy suspensions, so i had the mech pour in about 20ml of oil extra in each fork. Closed it up, and hurrah! Fork diving is greatly reduced.

Checked it out for a while for leaks, and after 3 years no leak.

3 years. Goodness, i should replace the oil in my fork. It should be black by now.

@muzzyfuzzy, did you go to UM yet ? Are they the ones who changed your battery ?

I get that you're angry with the mechs , but as far as I'm concerned, I've had nothing but great experiences with UM. But like i said in a previous post, I don;t just dump the bike there and expect them to fix it and give it back. I explain the problem, I investigate with them, I ask them to share with me their conclusions. They are very friendly and they will give your their point of view.

We don;t recommend UM because it's the only shop. We recommend them because between all of us here, we probably use their services at least once a week. So that's a good source for customer feedback, and if they were horrible or not good enough, we would know. The truth is, not all bike problems are easy to diagnosis and not all bikes are maintained the same. And most of the time, UM mechs can't guess the previous treatment the bike had or your own riding style. So you have to share as much info as possible, about the history of the bike, your riding style and give them some background info. In any case, I find that at UM they troubleshoot always starting with the most obvious and cheaper solution first. They will only suggest big repairs if it's obvious to them the problem is big or if they have already tried other solutions but the problem persists.

And they usually will not let you struggle with a problem, they are always willing to give you peace of mind and to find what the issue is and fix it once and for all, even if it means they have to spend more time on the bike or ask you to bring it back.

That's my experience, feel free to try them out and make your own opinion about them !

Now, a silly question for you, before you start jumping to the conclusion that it's the magnetic coil or something too complicated. Could be, but there's very simple issues :

- did you check your fuel level ?

- is your fuel lever on the right position (try putting it on reserve if you don't know how much petrol you have in the tank)

The symptoms you described are an exact match for fuel issues, like Spaiduz listed in his reply. To add on to what he wrote which covers pretty much everything, an easy way to troubleshoot a starting problem is to remind yourself that the bike needs 3 things to start and work:1. Fuel 2. Air 3. Spark

What you say is true in case of people who love bikes, but thats just 10% of all bike riders. Most riders are Pt A to Pt B kind of people who dont even know when to change engine oil and what quantity. Trust me most people are like that. They just want to take their bike to the bike shop at regular intervals and then its upto the bike shops to fix it and ensure a tension free ride.

Its like an Aircon maintainance. Do you know exactly what is in an aircon and what needs to be changed how often? No rite? Thats because we are not into aircons. We expect the service guy to come and inspect it at regular intervals and ensure that it keeps working fine. Same thing with bikes why should it be any different?

this comes down to the same sentence we always say...

"Rider or bike problem?"

as a rider it is your responsibility to know when is your servicing interval...

that is the reason there is a manual book and chart to tell you when you need to change/check your EO,brake fluid, spark plug, fork oil etc...

for ALL bikes, the basic maintenance that each mech will do is changing of EO,spark plug...

so if you did not tell the mech what are the symptoms or the problems you face when riding then how do you expect them to diagnose and help you solve your problem...

you are the one riding the bike everyday and not them...
