The oil that leaked since my first post here this morning:

http://tapatalk.com/mu/7d1bfd0f-87cc-e810.jpg

Gonna wash under the bike now to see where it comes from..

Thats not very bad. You can live with it by just topping up everyday as long as it doesnt get worse. It certainly isn't the drain bolt. Because if it was from the drain bolt the oil patch would have been closer to the right part of the bike.

That kind of an oil leak is difficult to diagonize. It could be from the oil seal from inside the sprocket cover area, or it could be from the left side crank case cover.

The oil is leaking from the drain bolt.

I need your views please :

- is it possible the previous mech tightened the bolt in koh

Lanta so much he broke the seal ?

- or could it be he didn't tighten it enough ?

I could try to open/tighten the bolt but. I don't want to have to change the oil again, it's brand new... And if the bolt is open I suppose there is no way to prevent the oil from flushing out, right?

I might be wrong but it really looks like it's coming from the bolt, look:

Maybe the thread of the bolt or washer is damaged. Normally when the bolt is fine, you dont need to tighten it too much. But if it is not then need to really tighten it, which might damage the engine crank case.

Now I dont think you can find a bolt and washer of the exact size. Since its from the drain bolt the leak is not going to get worse.

So you have 2 choices:

1) Go to a shop and ask them to tighten it somemore.

2) Just carry extra bottles of any EO, ideally same grade, and keep topping it up regularly.

Ok thanks a lot revhappy for all the hand holding, it's great to have live advice ! :thumb:

I tightened it a bit more myself just now, cleaned it again and now will see in 30mins how it goes.

I don't know about fiding a ring seal or washer, I have seen a Honda tiger in town and a few 150/200cc bikes so I think I could find something that fits.

Question is now, should I bother and loose my newly changed oil, or just wait until the next oil change in 1800km and change the seal/washer then ?

I am leaning toward the second option, but I don't like knowing something's wrong with the bike :(

Juz keep it till next oil change .also top up occasionally so as not to drop below minimal lvl.

Thanks Vincent & firecyber.

For mine, Ah Teck never used tape ( I think, I trust him so I never checked). Does anyone know how tight it should be? Like until cannot turn after full hulk force or less ? If someone can ask Ah Teck someday I'd appreciate it :)

@speedaddict, I knew you wouldn't let this one slide ! :D

Thanks a lot guys, I'll keep you posted in a bit when I go check on the bike again. This doesn't take anything from this trip that's been a really great experience so far.

I really encourage those who feel like exploring places on their bikes to not let lack of time or money stop them: save, plan, work ahead to allow yourself to go with a bit of budget, and then go!

Just Thailand itself is truly beautiful, with "main" roads easy to ride on the Pulsar that go trough mountains, fields of coconut and palm trees, long stretches of straight lines under the blue sky or across little simple kampungs where people are very friendly. And money wise, food and accommodation is very accessible even on a student budget. The only thing to save money for besides this is petrol (43Baths/L).

But what you see on the road and the amazing feeling when you ride these roads pays you back ten thousand times !

I didn't need to. Officers at the border said it was ok now to ride with normal plate. Also I couldn't get bike insurance, booth was closed when I crossed and since Satun have not gotten around doing it. I plan on googling it see if it can be an issue to let my bike out of Thailand. If not, I won't get one as I'm leaving Thailand for Cambodia this Sat or Sun, God willing. (comin back to Thailand after Vietnam, Laos).

On the EO leak front, it seems to have stopped. Fingers crossed !

Ok finished reading all the pages posted since I left for the trip.

The best post that made me laugh is :

Enough of bike stuff. One question.

What do u do if u feel like u have feelings for one of ur friend's gf?

And about the currency rates, maybe I can share with you the conversion, I'll post about it soon.

Tomorrow we take the road again, our destination is Samut Songkhram for one day one night, then we head to Pattaya for some...unusual and scary activity !

We hope to cross into Cambodia Saturday or Sunday, I just applied for e-visa online to avoid being scammed at the border. I paid US$25 instead of US$20, but all testimonials online say that officers refuse to sell the visa for the normal price of US$20 and can ask sometimes double (and make up fake "health checks" to take a few hundred baths from you...). So it's best to arrive there with your visa done.

Singaporeans and Malaysians don't need a visa to enter Cambodia.

Thanks Fredd for the advice, I will definitely get insurance asap.

I went through like what, 5 road blocks on the way up here and every time, they just let us through by waving us in, once they even made us squeeze to the front to let us through..

But you are right, all it takes is one stop and we'll pay the price.

I'll ask around when I'm at Samut Songkhram tomorrow ..
